Doha: Qatar is experiencing a rapid development in its food-saving culture, thanks to initiatives by governmental and non-governmental organizations that are making significant contributions to collecting surplus food and educating people about reducing food waste.
The Hifz Al Naema Center, the largest social initiative to reduce food waste in Qatar, reaches out to most banquets and wedding parties, collecting large quantities of surplus food. The center has collected 228,217 surplus meals so far this year, which have been distributed to needy families and workers.
The food-saving culture is also evident in restaurants, where the majority of people choose to take their leftover food with them after dining.
Recently, Al Rayyan TV aired a program that raised awareness about food saving in society. Speaking on the program, the Public Relations Officer at the Hifz Al Naema Center, Muhammad Yousef Al Muftah, stated that the growing response from the community to the center’s initiative indicates a rising public awareness of the issue.

“مركز حفظ النعمة”، أكبر مبادرة اجتماعية للحد من هدر الطعام في قطر، يصل إلى معظم الولائم وحفلات الزفاف، ويجمع الأطعمة الزائدة بكميات كبيرة. حتى الآن، جمع المركز 228،217 وجبة زائدة ووزعها على الأسر المحتاجة والعمال.
تتجلى ثقافة توفير الطعام أيضًا في المطاعم حيث يفضل معظم الناس أخذ الطعام المتبقي معهم بعد تناول الطعام.
أذاعت قناة الريان تلفزيون برنامجًا حديثًا عن زيادة الوعي بتوفير الطعام في المجتمع. وفي حديثه في البرنامج، قال مسؤول العلاقات العامة في مركز حفظ النعمة، محمد يوسف المفتاح، إن الاستجابة المتزايدة من المجتمع لمبادرة المركز تشير إلى زيادة الوعي العام بالموضوع.
