Over 800 surgeons attend world pediatric congress in Doha

Doha: Sidra Medicine launched the 6th World Congress of the World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons (WOFAPS 2019) yesterday, with the attendance of over 800 surgeons from more than 80 countries.

The international congress, held for the first time in the Middle East and Qatar, started yesterday and will conclude on November 4 at the Qatar National Convention Center.

The conference aims to improve the surgical care of children around the globe, driving collaboration, education and training beyond borders. It also aims to ensure every child in the world has access to good quality healthcare and treatment by a pediatric medical or surgical specialist.

Sidra Medicine is hosting WOFAPS 2019 to ensure Pediatric Surgeons have access to the latest updates in the field, and opportunities for training with some of the world’s leading pediatric surgeons. The conference aligns with Sidra Medicine’s mission to provide comprehensive healthcare services including the training and education needed for healthcare practitioners, especially in lower income countries.

Dr. Mansour Ali, Executive Chair of Surgery at Sidra Medicine and Co-Chair of the WOFAPS 2019 Organizing Committee, said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome over 800 Pediatric General Surgeons, Pediatric Urologists, Community Surgeons, Surgical Trainees, and Nurses from around the globe to WOFAPS 2019 here in Doha.”

Dr. Sanjeev Dutta, Former Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery, Stanford, and Head of Innovations at Johnson and Johnson, said: “Africa and Asia are the geographies that witness the biggest disparities in healthcare, and it’s a global responsibility to address those disparities in terms of offering access to wellbeing to people everywhere. Given the proximity to this region, organizing the congress here in Qatar and having 100 doctors who are giving care to children in these parts of the world sponsored to come and attend is a sign of the democratization of surgery, and giving equal chances in surgical access to everyone.”

Prof. Pippi Salle, Chief of Urology at Sidra Medicine, welcomed delegates, praising the success of the pre-congress two day workshops, saying: “We have a fantastic International faculty at Sidra Medicine, both for the live surgery workshops as well as for the urological scientific meeting prepared to make this event an unforgettable one.” In parallel with the 6th World Congress of Pediatric Surgery (WOFAPS), full day urology sessions will be held every day of the congress, organized by local expert, Dr. Pippi Salle. These dedicated surgery sessions will provide three days of discussions around the most relevant topics and the hottest debates.

The academic sessions at WOFAPS 2019 are led by internationally recognised health professionals. The sessions cover cross-cutting themes in innovation, education, quality, and safety, and a total of 6 pre and post congress workshops have been developed to create a diverse platform.

أعلن أمس مركز سدرة للطب، عن تدشين المؤتمر العالمي السادس لجمعيات جراحي الأطفال لعام 2019، وذلك بحضور أكثر من 800 جراح من أكثر من 80 دولة، وينعقد المؤتمر الدولي للمرة الأولى في قطر والشرق الأوسط، في الفترة ما بين 1 – 4 نوفمبر 2019، بمركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات. يهدف المؤتمر إلى تحسين الرعاية الجراحية الخاصة بالأطفال في جميع أنحاء العالم. كما يسعى إلى تشجيع التعاون والتعليم والتدريب، لكي يحصل جميع الأطفال على العلاج والرعاية الصحية من قبل جراحين وأطباء متخصصين.

ويعد المؤتمر فرصة رائعة للتعرف على أحدث التطورات في هذا المجال والتعلم من نخبة من كبار جراحي الأطفال في العالم.

ويستضيف مركز سدرة للطب الدورة السادسة للمؤتمر، حيث إنه يتوافق مع مهمته الساعية إلى توفير خدمات الرعاية الصحية الشاملة بما في ذلك تدريب وتعليم وإعداد الكوادر، وخاصة في الدول النامية.

وفي هذا السياق، صرّح د. منصور علي رئيس قسم الجراحة في مركز سدرة للطب، وممثل الاتحاد العالمي لجمعيات جراحي الأطفال في الشرق الأوسط: «يسرّني أن أرحب بأكثر من 800 مشارك من جميع أنحاء العالم، بما في ذلك أخصائيي المسالك البولية، والجراحين، والمتدربين، والممرضين، في الدورة السادسة للمؤتمر، والتي تنعقد هنا من قلب الدوحة».

«فتماشياً مع الرؤية الوطنية لعام 2030، استطاع مركز سدرة للطب أن يستضيف أول دورة للمؤتمر في الشرق الأوسط، وهو الأمر الذي يشعرني بالفخر ويعكس قدرتنا على استضافة حدث طبي عالمي على هذا المستوى. فسدرة للطب الآن تأتي في طليعة مزودي خدمات الرعاية الصحية للنساء والأطفال، والتعليم والتدريب للجراحين والمتخصصين».

من جانبه، قال البروفيسور ديفيد سيجاليت رئيس خدمات المرضى في سدرة للطب، ورئيس الاتحاد العالمي لجمعيات جراحي الأطفال: «إننا سعداء بهذا الدعم الذي تلقيناه من مركز سدرة للطب ورعاة المؤتمر. فهو نتاج جهود جماعية تهدف إلى توفير أفضل تجربة تعليمية وتدريبية ممكنة».

كما أضاف البروفيسور ديفيد: «ستستقبل قطر في المؤتمر الذي يدور موضوعه حول التعاون والتعليم والتدريب، نخبة من رواد الفكر والمبتكرين في المجالين الجراحي والطبي».

وقال الدكتور سانجيف دوتا أستاذ مشارك في جراحة الأطفال في جامعة ستانفورد، ورئيس قسم الابتكار في جونسون وجونسون: «تعتبر قارتا إفريقيا وآسيا من المناطق الجغرافية التي تشهد أكبر التحديات في مجال الرعاية الصحية. فإنها مسؤوليتنا جميعاً أن نعمل على مواجهة هذه التحديات. وقد قمنا بتنظيم المؤتمر هنا في قطر لكي يتمكن الأطباء من هذه الدول من المشاركة».

كما رحّب البروفيسور بيبي ساليه رئيس قسم المسالك البولية في مركز سدرة للطب بالوفود المشاركة، مشيداً بنجاح الورشتين اللتين عقدتا قبيل المؤتمر، قائلاً: «لدينا برنامج رائع، وكانت ورشة العمل الحية لجراحة المسالك البولية من أهم الفعاليات، فهي ليست مهمة من منظور تعليمي فحسب، بل إنها فرصة رائعة لعرض التطورات التي أنجزها مركز سدرة للطب في مجال جراحة المسالك البولية للأطفال. ذلك إلى جانب المناقشات التفاعلية مع فريق من أطباء المسالك البولية العالميين.

استضاف المؤتمر اليوم سلسلة من الجلسات وورش العمل المتخصصة حول مواضيع مختلفة بما في ذلك «جراحة الأورام لدى لأطفال»، التي نظمها البروفيسور يورج من «إيبسو»، ودورة «هيو غرينوود» حول مهارات جراحة الأطفال من تنظيم د. كوكيلا لاخو وهيثم دغاش من «بابس» و»جي أي سي أس».
