‘Screen For Life’ campaign to raise breast cancer awareness

‘Screen For Life’, Qatar’s National Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening program operated by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), will next month launch a ‘Put Yourself First’ Breast Cancer Awareness campaign as part of International Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The aim of the month-long campaign is to educate and raise awareness on the importance of early detection of breast cancer in Qatar and to promote early screening for breast cancer with a mammogram test being free for all women in Qatar aged 45-69 years.
Women take care of everyone around them; family, husband, kids and work. This big responsibility leaves no time for women to take care of themselves. Accordingly, the campaign tagline “Put Yourself First” was a direct call for action asking ladies to think of themselves as a priority especially when it comes to their health.
During October ‘Screen For Life’ will conduct lectures, undertake training for physicians, operate a mobile screening unit and mount information booths in malls and health centers while implementing social media contests and awareness campaigns to promote the early screening message. Women in Qatar will also qualify for free screening at any of the three PHCC screening suites at Al Wakra, Leabaib and Rawdat Al Khail Health Centers. They simply need to make a prior appointment which can be done by calling the dedicated call center on 8001112.
“Early detection of breast cancer is vital as it can lead to up to 100% survival rate,” explained Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Manager of Screening Programs at PHCC. “Women in the age range 45-69 should take advantage of the screening opportunity even if they don’t have symptoms. Raising awareness of breast cancer is a year-round ‘Screen For Life’ objective. أعلن برنامج «الكشف المبكر لحياة صحية» التابع لمؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، عن إطلاق حملة «أنتِ أولاً» للتوعية بسرطان الثدي خلال شهر أكتوبر المقبل، حيث تواكب الحملة فعاليات الشهر العالمي للتوعية بسرطان الثدي.
وتهدف الحملة التي تستمر شهراً كاملاً، إلى توعية الجمهور وتثقيفه في قطر بأهمية الكشف المبكر عن سرطان الثدي، والتشجيع على إجراء التصوير الشعاعي للثدي (الماموجرام) الذي يقدّمه البرنامج مجاناً لجميع السيدات في قطر الذين تتراوح أعمارهن بين 45-69 عاماً.
وسوف ينظّم برنامج «الكشف المبكر لحياة صحية» خلال شهر أكتوبر المقبل، مجموعة من محاضرات التوعية، إلى جانب فعاليات توعوية تشمل زيارة الوحدة المتنقلة للكشف المبكّر عديداً من الأماكن في قطر، وتفعيل أجنحة توعوية تفاعلية ضمن عدد من المراكز التجارية والصحية في الدولة، فضلاً عن تنظيم مسابقات وحملات توعوية على مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي للتوعية بأهمية الكشف المبكّر.
وتشمل الأنشطة التوعوية عقد عدد من الدورات التدريبية للأطباء؛ لتذكيرهم بأهمية تحويل مراجعيهم إلى «الكشف المبكّر».
ويمكن للسيدات في قطر الحصول على فحوصات مجانية على مدار العام في أي من أجنحة الكشف التابعة لمؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية، المتوزّعة على مراكز الوكرة ولعبيب وروضة الخيل الصحية.
وقالت الدكتورة شيخة أبوشيخة، مدير برامج الكشف المبكر في مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية: «يلعب الكشف المبكّر عن سرطان الثدي دوراً محورياً في تعزيز فرص الشفاء لدى المرض بنسبة قد تصل إلى 100 %». لافتة إلى أنه يتعين على السيدات اللواتي تتراوح أعمارهن بين 45-69 عاماً الاستفادة من فرصة الكشف المبكر المتاحة حتى لو لم تظهر عليهن أعراض المرض. ودعت السيدات إلى وضع الصحة في صدارة أولوياتهن، وتخصيص الوقت لإجراء الكشف المبكّر.
