HMC holds workshop on treating tobacco dependence
مركز مكافحة التدخين في حمد الطبية ينفّذ ورشة تدريبية حول معالجة الإدمان على التبغ
Doha: As part of an agreement with the Ministry of Public Health and in collaboration with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Tobacco Control Center held a two-day train-the-trainer workshop on treating tobacco dependence.
The workshop was delivered by internationally recognised experts in tobacco control, including Dr Ahmad Al Mulla, Head of the HMC Tobacco Control Center, Dr Dongbo Fu, Medical Officer for Tobacco Cessation, Department for Prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases, WHO, and Dr Feras Hawari, Director, Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program, King Hussein Cancer Center, recently.
The aim of the workshop was to educate healthcare workers about the history of tobacco control in Qatar, the epidemiology of tobacco use in the country, and the important role tobacco cessation programs play in reducing the tobacco epidemic among the adult population in the country.
The training was attended by 45 general practitioners, consultants, specialists, residents, psychologists, and nurses from HMC, Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Red Crescent, and Sidra Medicine. There were also participants from tobacco control focal points in Iraq, Oman, Madagascar, and Gambia.
As part of the workshop, participants learned different strategies to help patients quit smoking and also to coach their colleagues in their smoking cessation interventions.
The workshop highlighted best practices in clinical care and included the use of hands-on activities, practice sheets, role-playing, and exercises.
Dr Al Mulla said the workshop was the second in a series hosted by HMC and the WHO as part of Hamad’s role as a WHO Collaborating Centre. He noted that future workshops are planned in conjunction with ongoing efforts to enhance the ability of frontline healthcare providers to deliver the best quality of care to tobacco-dependent patients.
“The workshop demonstrates the important leadership role that Qatar plays in providing advanced training in the areas of tobacco control and smoking cessation. These training sessions were aimed at increasing the pool of experts in the smoking cessation field, not only here in Qatar, but regionally and internationally,” he added.
In 2017, HMC’s Tobacco Control Center was designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre, the first in Qatar and the region. WHO Collaborating Centres, which also include research institutes and parts of universities and academies, are designated to carry out activities in support of the WHO’s mandated international health work.
في إطار الجهود المشتركة لكلّ من وزارة الصحة العامة والمكتب الإقليمي لمنظّمة الصحة العالمية لمنطقة شرق المتوسّط نفّذ مركز مكافحة التدخين في مؤسسة حمد الطبية ، والذي يعتبر مركز تعاون مع منظّمة الصحة العالمية في المنطقة ، الأسبوع الماضي ورشة تدريبية حول معالجة الإدمان على التبغ.
وقد أشرف على الورشة التدريبية التي عقدت في الدوحة يومي 19 و20 يونيو الجاري مجموعة من الخبراء الدوليين البارزين في مجال مكافحة التدخين ضمّت كلّ من: الدكتور أحمد الملّا، مدير مركز مكافحة التدخين في مؤسسة حمد الطبية ومدير مركز التعاون مع منظّمة الصحة العالمية لمكافحة التدخين، والدكتور دونجبو فو المسئول الطبي لمكافحة التدخين في وحدة بناء القدرات بإدارة منع انتشار الأمراض غير الإنتقالية في منظّمة الصحة العالمية ، والدكتور فراس هواري، مدير البرنامج التدريبي التخصصي لمعالجة الإدمان على التبغ في مستشفى الملك حسين للسرطان في الأردن.
وتهدف الورشة التدريبية الى تثقيف وتعريف كوادر الرعاية الصحية حول حول تاريخ مكافحة التدخين في دولة قطر وظاهرة انتشار التدخين في البلاد والدور الحيوي الذي يؤدّية مركز مكافحة التدخين في مؤسسة حمد الطبية في الحدّ من انتشار هذه الظاهرة في أوساط البالغين من سكّان الدولة.
وقد حضر الورشة التدريبية 45 من كوادر الرعاية الصحية بمن فيهم أطباء استشاريين وأطباء أخصائيين وأطباءعامّين ومقيمين ، إضافة الى أخصائئين نفسيين وكوادر تمريضية من كل من مؤسسة حمد الطبية و مؤسسة الرعاية الصحية الأولية وشركة قطر للبترول والهلال الأحمر القطري وسدرة للطب، كما حضرها عدد من مسئولي الإتصال المعنيين بمكافحة التدخين في العراق وسلطنة عُمان ومدغشقر وجامبيا.
وقد تلقّى المشاركون في الورشة التدريبية تدريبات حول تطبيق استراتيجيات مختلفة في مساعدة المرضى على الإقلاع عن التدخين وفي تدريب زملائهم العاملين في مجال الرعاية الصحية على أساليب التدخّل الطبي في مكافحة التدخين، كما تخلّل الورشة التي ارتكزت الى أفضل الممارسات الطبية والنظريات المثبتة المتّبعة في مكافحة التدخين بعض النشاطات والتمارين التدريبية النظرية والعملية.
وأوضح الدكتور أحمد الملّا أن الورشة التدريبية المذكورة كانت الثانية ضمن سلسلة من الورش والفعاليات التدريبية التي سيواصل مركز التعاون مع منظّمة الصحة العالمية في مؤسسة حمد الطبية تنظيمها بهدف تعزيز قدرات المشاركين وتمكينهم من تقديم أفضل رعاية ممكنة للمرضى المدمنين على التبغ، وقال:”تعتبر مثل هذه الورش والدورات التدريبية خير شاهد على الدور القيادي الذي تؤدية قطر في توفير التدريب المتقدّم في ميدان مكافحة التدخين، وتهدف هذه الورش والفعاليات التدريبية الى زيادة عدد الخبراء العاملين في مضمار مكافة التدخين على الصعيد المحلّي والصعيدين الإقليمي والدولي أيضاً”.
