Qatar Biobank screens 20,000th participant
٢٠ ألف متطوع بـ «قطر بيوبنك» لفهم دوافع التحديات الصحية السائدة
Doha: Qatar Biobank, a member of Qatar Foundation and part of Qatar Foundation Research, Development, and Innovation, has welcomed its 20,000th participant as part of its unique medical research initiative to understand the drivers of mainstream health challenges in Qatar.
Launched in 2011, Qatar Biobank enables researchers and healthcare professionals to access the data and biological samples that it collects from the local population, in an effort to develop customised medical solutions to the various diseases and health issues prevalent in the country.
Dr Asmaa Al Thani, Board Vice Chairperson of Qatar Biobank and Chairperson of Qatar Genome Programme Committee, said: “The screening of 20,000 participants is an achievement for us all. We are one step closer to accomplishing preventative treatment for the healthcare challenges that our population faces. The success of the medical research at Qatar Biobank, and ultimately the realization of precision medicine, depends on how actively the people of Qatar contribute to our program.
“I thank everyone who has so far registered for Qatar Biobank, and encourage everyone to join us in improving the efficiency of healthcare of the country, which is an important national duty.”
Qatar Biobank and Qatar Genome Programme, also a QF member, have completed the development of the first Qatari gene chip, ‘Q-Chip’. It is the first local gene array designed and based on data from thousands of Qatari genomes sequenced over the past three years, and represents a major step in gaining insights into the health of the local population, including the prevalence of diabetes, obesity, and vitamin D deficiency.
Qatar Biobank welcomes registration from Qataris over the age of 18, and adult expatriates who have lived in Qatar for at least 15 years.
A regular visit to the Qatar Biobank includes standard medical tests, such as blood pressure and lung function. However, the tests also include new screenings that are not included in other large-scale biobanks, such as advanced imaging techniques and a treadmill test.
رحّب «قطر بيوبنك»، عضو مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، وجزء من قطاع البحوث والتطوير والابتكار في المؤسسة؛ بمشاركة المتطوع رقم 20.000، وذلك في إطار مبادرة أبحاثه الطبية الفريدة الهادفة لفهم دوافع التحديات الصحية السائدة في المجتمع. وقد تم تأسيس «قطر بيوبنك» في عام 2011، بهدف تمكين الباحثين والعاملين في مجال الرعاية الصحية من تطوير حلول طبية مخصصة لمختلف الأمراض والتحديات الصحية السائدة في قطر والمنطقة، وذلك عبر توفير البيانات والعينات البيولوجية التي يجمعها من السكان المحليين.
وقالت الدكتورة أسماء آل ثاني رئيسة اللجنة الوطنية لبرنامج قطر جينوم، ونائب رئيس مجلس أمناء قطر بيوبنك: «إن فحص المتطوع رقم 20,000 يمثل إنجازاً لنا جميعاً، ويجعلنا نخطو خطوة أقرب باتجاه تحقيق العلاج الوقائي للتحديات التي نواجهها في مجال الرعاية الصحية. إن نجاح الأبحاث الطبية في «قطر بيوبنك»، وبالتالي الحصول على العلاجات الدقيقة؛ يعتمد على مساهمة سكان قطر في برنامجنا».
وأضافت: «وأنا أشكر جميع الذين شاركوا في مبادرة «قطر بيوبنك» حتى الآن، وأشجع الجميع على المشاركة ليكونوا عوناً لنا في دعم نظام الرعاية الصحية في البلاد، والذي يعد واجباً وطنياً مهما».
وقد استكمل مؤخراً «قطر بيوبنك»، وبرنامج قطر جينوم، المنضوي أيضاً تحت مظلة مؤسسة قطر؛ مشروع تطوير أول رقاقة جينية قطرية «كيوشيب»، وهي أول مصفوفة جينية مصممة بناء على بيانات تم جمعها من آلاف الجينوم القطري المتسلسل على مدى السنوات الثلاث الماضية، ما يعد خطوة هائلة باتجاه جمع معلومات حول الحالة الصحية للسكان، ونوعية الأمراض المنتشرة كالسكري والسمنة ونقص فيتامين د.
ويرحب «قطر بيوبنك» بالقطريين الذين تزيد أعمارهم عن 18 سنة، والمقيمين البالغين الذين يعيشون في قطر منذ 15 سنة على الأقل، للمشاركة في هذا البحث الطبي الرائد.
كما يقوم البنك بإجراء اختبارات طبية منتظمة للمتطوعين، تشمل اختبار ضغط الدم، واختبار وظائف الرئة. كما يقوم «قطر بيوبنك» بإجراء فحوصات جديدة لا تجريها بنوك بيولوجية أخرى، تتضمن تقنيات تصوير متطورة لقياس تكوين الجسم وصحة الشرايين السباتية، واختبار جهاز الجري لقياس اللياقة البدنية.
