Sidra Medicine appoints chair of diagnostic imaging dept

Sidra Medicine, the specialist women’s and children’s hospital, has appointed Dr Catherine Owens as the chair of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.
Dr Owens will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of imaging including paediatric body imaging; paediatric interventional radiology; paediatric neuro imaging and paediatric nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.
This role provides leadership to a core group of multidisciplinary members of the radiology team, who are crucial to the care of patients for diagnosis and therapy.
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging at Sidra Medicine works closely with general paediatrics, paediatric surgery and many other sub-specialties such as cardiology and neurosurgery, to provide best-practice care to patients. In addition to offering highly specialised paediatric imaging services, Sidra Medicine recently installed Qatar’s first interventional MRI Surgery suite – IMRIS hybrid operating theatre.
Commenting on the new appointment, chief medical officer, Dr Abdulla al-Kaabi said: “Dr Owens’ extensive experience will help us further establish diagnostic imaging as a world-class service that is on par with other leading children’s hospitals around the world.”
Dr Owens joins Sidra Medicine from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children – NHS Trust (GOSH) where she held the title of Consultant in Paediatric Radiology. Prior to GOSH, Dr Owens was the consultant in paediatric radiology at the Imperial College School of Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

Dr Owens has a particular interest in cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and radiology of the immunocompromised child. She is the author of many scientific papers and guidelines and is considered as a leading expert in Cardiothoracic CT, Diffuse Interstitial Lung Disease and airways disease. She is also a senior councilor of the European Society of Paediatric Radiologists and a subcommittee member of the ESR EU driven Radiation Protection Subcommittee.
Dr Owens received her paediatric radiology senior fellowship training from The Hospital for Sick Children Toronto, Canada; senior registrar training from GOSH and is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and Royal College of Physicians from where she received her postgraduate medical diploma.

وقبل التحاقها بـ «سدرة للطب»، كانت د. أوينز تعمل لدى مستشفى جريت أورموند ستريت للأطفال (GOSH) التابعة لمؤسسة NHS Trust، حيث شغلت منصب استشاري في قسم أشعة الأطفال. وقبل الانضمام لمستشفى GOSH، كانت د. أوينز تشغل منصب استشاري في قسم أشعة الأطفال في مدرسة طب كلية إمبيريال بمستشفى سانت ماري في بادينجتون.
