Arab Board Exam for Obstetrics and Gynecology held in Qatar for first time

Earlier this month, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) hosted the Arab Board of Health Specializations exam in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Sixteen resident physicians from HMC and various medical facilities in Qatar took the exam, with nine joining the obstetrics and gynecology service at HMC’s WWRC after successfully passing.

Dr. Salwa Abu Yaqoub (pictured), Senior Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Head of the Resident Physician Training Program at WWRC, congratulated those who passed the exam. She said this year marks the first time that the Arab Board exam for obstetrics and gynecology has been held in Qatar.

Dr. Yaqoub highlighted the importance of the examination, saying Qatar and HMC have gained a strong reputation in the field of medical training and that the Arab Board’s selection of Doha as a venue for the exam is a reflection of this reputation.

Dr. Abu Yaqoub said the Arab Board Exam for Obstetrics and Gynecology normally requires a resident to have undergone five years of work in the specialisation before completing the test. She said the nine new doctors will be excellent additions to the WWRC and have the knowledge and clinical skills required to practice at the highest possible level of competence.

“This final examination is the culmination of more than five years of work on the part of these resident physicians. This exam tests both their practical and theoretical training. The exam was supervised by six doctors from the Arab Board of Health Specializations, with Qatar, Libya, Jordan, Yemen, Syria, and Sudan all represented. To help prepare our residents, we held a training course prior to the exam, which provided these young physicians with a review of the various examination topics and test-taking strategies,” said Dr. Abu Yaqoub.

Physicians who pass the Arab Board exam for Obstetrics and Gynecology are qualified to practice the obstetrics and gynecology specialty in most Arab countries.

عقد مركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث -التابع لمؤسسة حمد الطبية- للمرة الأولى بدولة قطر، الاختبار السريري النهائي للبورد العربي «الأوسكي» للأطباء المقيمين في تخصص النساء والتوليد، وذلك في الأول من فبراير الحالي بمقر المركز، وخضع للاختبار 16 طبيباً مقيماً من العاملين بمؤسسة حمد الطبية ومختلف المرافق الطبية بالدولة.

وأكدت الدكتورة سلوى بو يعقوب -استشاري أول أمراض النساء والتوليد، ورئيس برنامج تدريب الأطباء المقيمين بمركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث- أن اختبار البورد العربي لتخصص النساء والتوليد كان يُعقد سنوياً خارج دولة قطر، ولكن هذا العام تم تنظيمه للمرة الأولى لهذا التخصص في قطر كغيره من التخصصات الأخرى، موضحة أن الطبيب الذي يجتاز هذا الاختبار يؤهَّل للعمل كاختصاصي في مجال طب النساء والتوليد بمركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث، وقد اجتاز 9 أطباء من برنامج الإقامة في اختصاص النساء والتوليد بمؤسسة حمد الطبية اختبارات البورد العربي التي أقيمت مطلع هذا الشهر.

وأضافت الدكتورة سلوى: «تم الاستعداد للاختبار النهائي طوال فترة عمل الأطباء المقيمين على مدار السنوات الخمس الماضية، من خلال التدريب العملي والنظري، وقبل خوضهم الاختبار بأيام قليلة تم عقد تدريب تحت عنوان ورشة العمل الرئيسية للفحص السريري المنظم للبورد العربي، والتي تقام للسنة الرابعة على التوالي، لتأهيل الأطباء المقيمين لاجتياز الاختبار الإكلينيكي، على أيدي نخبة من أكفأ الأطباء بمؤسسة حمد الطبية وبعض الدول العربية الشقيقة».;
