Arabic language is on the decline, especially in GCC countries: Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Rahim Kafoud

Doha: His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Rahim Kafoud, the former Minister of Education, Professor of Arabic Literature, attributed the decline of the Arabic language to its neglect at home, schools, the street, and daily interactions in society, which had a significant negative impact on the Arabic language in the entire Arab world.
He pointed out that the Gulf countries are the most affected by the multiculturalism of expatriates in society and the large and rapid flow of information through the Internet.
“Children in the Gulf countries are raised at home by foreign nannies and acquire the nanny’s language at the expense of the Arabic language, as well as parents are keen to enroll them in private schools to teach them foreign languages to keep up with the pace of the world, which negatively affects Arabic language learning, which requires a reconsideration of the status of Arabic in homes, schools, institutions and society as a whole, the children must realize that it is part of their personality and identity,” Dr. Kafoud said in an interview with Al Raya
He stressed that the law on the protection of the Arabic language is an important proactive and pioneering step for the State of Qatar, as it obliges all state institutions to adopt the Arabic language in communication, correspondence, meetings and in learning in schools and universities, calling for the application of the law and follow-up and accountability if any violations are detected.
He suggested adopting a system of bilingualism during university studies for scientific disciplines, so that the Arabic language is in full swing ahead of the English language.
He believed that private schools have an impact on language, values, and identity and on many acquisitions, and cause a lot of rejected fanaticism, because these schools teach by their own methods, special values and own beliefs, and then may cause a rift in the culture of society, which is a dangerous matter.
He stressed the important role of the curricula in enabling children to master their mother tongue, explaining that the interesting and attractive curricula will affect the linguistic building of the entire generation.

الدوحة: عزا سعادة الدكتور محمد عبدالرحيم كافود -وزير التربية والتعليم الأسبق أستاذ الأدب والنقد العربي- تراجع اللغة العربية إلى إهمالها في البيت والتعليم والشارع والتعاملات اليومية في المجتمع، وهو ما أثر تأثيرًا سلبيًا وكبيرًا على اللغة العربية في العالم العربي كافة.
مشيرًا إلى أن دول الخليج هي الأكثر تأثرًا نتيجة تعدد ثقافات الوافدين في المجتمع وتدفق المعلومات بشكل كبير وسريع عبر الإنترنت.
وقال د. كافود، في حوار مع الراية: “إن الأطفال في دول الخليج يتربّوْن في البيت على يد مربيات أجنبيات ويكتسبون لغتهم منهن على حساب العربية، فضلًا عن حرص أولياء الأمور على إلحاقهم بالمدارس الخاصة لتعليمهم اللغات الأجنبية لمواكبة العصر، ما يؤثر سلبًا على تعليم اللغة العربية، الأمر الذي يتطلب إعادة الاعتبار والمكانة للغة العربية في البيوت والمدارس وفي المؤسسات وفي المجتمع ككل، وأن يدرك الأبناء أنها جزء من شخصيتهم وهويتهم.”
وأكد أن قانون حماية اللغة العربية خطوة استباقية وريادية مهمة لدولة قطر، حيث يلزم كافة مؤسسات الدولة باعتماد اللغة العربية في التواصل والمراسلات والاجتماعات وفي التعلم بالمدارس والجامعات، مطالبًا بتطبيق القانون والمتابعة والمحاسبة حال رصد أي مخالفات.
واقترح اتباع نظام ازدواجية اللغة خلال الدراسة الجامعية للتخصصات العلمية بحيث تكون اللغة العربية موجودة على قدم وساق أمام الإنجليزية. ورأى أن للمدارس الخاصة تأثيرًا على اللغة والقيم والهوية وعلى كثير من المكتسبات، وتُحدث كثيرًا من العصبيات المرفوضة، لأن تلك المدارس تعلم بأساليبها الخاصة وقيمها الخاصة ومعتقداتها الخاصة ومن ثم قد تُحدث شرخًا في ثقافة المجتمع، وهو أمر خطير.
وشدد على دور المناهج -المهم- في تمكين الأبناء من إتقان لغتهم الأم، موضحًا أنه متى كانت المناهج مشوّقة وجاذبة للطالب فستؤثر على بناء الجيل بالكامل لغويًا وتمكنهم من إتقان لغتهم الأم.
