Sidra Medicine to host two-day pediatric and orthopedic symposium

DOHA: Sidra Medicine will host a two-day Orthopedic Symposium this weekend as part of its ongoing efforts to share knowledge and expertise with colleagues in Qatar and beyond.

The Pediatric Fractures and Polytrauma Symposium will take place on October 19 and 20, in the Sidra Auditorium in the Main Hospital Building. This event will bring together medical professionals of all levels who participate in the treatment and management of children who sustain multiple injuries and fractures.

Dr Abdelsalam Hegazy, a Pediatric Orthopedic Consultant at Sidra Medicine and the Chair of the Organizing Committee, said, “The symposium is the first of its kind at Sidra Medicine. The program is aimed at Healthcare Providers from different disciplines, to help provide the best care for our Pediatric Trauma Patients. It will combine both interactive and didactic sessions with an aim of providing holistic care. This will be an annual event with a different theme each year.”

Attendees will include orthopedic surgeons, emergency department physicians, physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and allied health practitioners, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists and orthopedic casting technicians, as well as anyone else working directly with Pediatric Patients presenting with multiple trauma and fractures.

Sessions will include lectures presenting the most up to date evidence for the treatment of multiple pediatric fractures, and hands-on skills workshops which will introduce novel surgical techniques for management of Sypracondylar Humerus fractures (breaks to the bone just above the elbow). Workshops will also emphasize the importance of age-appropriate treatment of pediatric femoral fractures (thigh bone fractures).

Dr Jason Howard, Sidra Medicine’s Division Chief of Orthopedic Surgery will join a number of hospital colleagues, and noted international experts including Dr Andrew Howard from Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada who is the Director of the Office of International Surgery and specializes in injury prevention in children and Dr Kai Zieberth from Bern University Hospital for Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology in Switzerland.

The Pediatric Fractures and Polytrauma Symposium is the latest in the Sidra Symposia series, a popular program which has attracted a large following in the country. The series is directed towards academia, researchers, physicians, healthcare providers and regulatory providing them with access to knowledge, ideas, techniques and best practice across a variety of clinical areas.

تُقام ندوة كسور العظام والإصابات المتعددة لدى الأطفال على مدى يومي 19 و20 أكتوبر في قاعة المحاضرات بالمستشفى الرئيسي لمركز سدرة للطب، بمشاركة نخبة من أصحاب التخصصات الطبية المعنيين بتقديم الرعاية الصحية للأطفال الذين يعانون من كسور في العظام وإصابات متعددة.

وقال الدكتور عبد السلام حجازي مستشار عظام الأطفال في مركز سدرة للطب، ورئيس اللجنة المنظمة للندوة: «هذه الندوة هي الأولى من نوعها في مركز سدرة للطب، وتستهدف العاملين في قطاع الرعاية الصحية على اختلاف تخصصاتهم، حيث تساعدهم في تقديم أفضل رعاية صحية ممكنة للأطفال الذي يعانون من كسور في العظام أو إصابات متعددة. كما أنها تتميز بشقيها التفاعلي والتعليمي.

ومن المقرر أن تُقام هذه الندوة سنوياً مع تغيير موضوعها من عام لآخر».

يشارك في الندوة الدكتور جيسون هوارد رئيس قسم جراحة عظام الأطفال في مركز سدرة للطب الذي علق قائلاً: «التعليم المستمر جزء حيوي في مسيرة الارتقاء بالممارس الطبي، وله أهميته أيضاً من الناحية الكلية، حيث يتم من خلاله التركيز على مجالات محددة مثل الأطفال الذين يعانون من إصابات متعددة وتتطلب حالاتهم رعاية واهتماماً خاصاً. وفي إطار ندوات مركز سدرة للطب، يسرنا أن نتيح فرصاً تتيح للخبراء من مركز سدرة للطب ومن خارجه الاجتماع تحت مظلة واحدة، للمساعدة في تعزيز المعارف والمهارات الفنية ورعاية المريض».;
