Qatar Airways to host Orbis Flying Eye Hospital in Doha

DOHA: Qatar Airways will host the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital at Doha International Airport from late October until November 12, ahead of the launch of Doha Healthcare Week.

The Flying Eye Hospital, operated by global eye health charity Orbis, is a fully-equipped cargo plane with state-of-the-art medical equipment, an operating theatre and a classroom, making it a truly unique teaching facility. Every year, the aircraft visits countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, partnering with local hospitals to deliver specialist training through its team of world-class medical volunteers, carry out treatments, and raise vital awareness about the importance of eye health.

The Orbis team will support Doha Healthcare Week by organising public and private tours inside the aircraft, as well as hosting on board workshops, including a Nursing and Ophthalmology session. The global eye health charity will also have a booth at the award-winning Hamad International Airport (HIA), to raise awareness about the importance of providing care to those with avoidable eye conditions, as part of Doha Healthcare Week. The aircraft will also be stopping in Doha to celebrate the Qatar Creating Vision initiative, which is funded by Qatar Fund for Development and led by Orbis. Together they are on track to deliver an impressive 5.6 million eye care treatments to children across India and Bangladesh by mid-2020.

Qatar Airways has been a proud supporter of Orbis since 2012. The multiple award-winning airline officially renewed its sponsorship with the global eye health charity in 2017 as the Official Airline Partner for three years. Since 1982 Orbis has been working to prevent avoidable blindness in areas of need. Working with a global team of volunteers and the world’s leading ophthalmic medical experts, each year Orbis delivers between four to eight training programmes on board the Flying Eye Hospital. It also runs long-term programmes in 18 countries, including Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India and Zambia, among others.

تستضيف الخطوط الجوية القطرية أواخر الشهر الحالي، وحتى 12 من نوفمبر المقبل مستشفى أوربس الطائر للعيون، وذلك على هامش فعاليات أسبوع الدوحة للرعاية الصحيّة.

ويعتبر المستشفى الطائر، والذي تديره منظمة «أوربس» الخيرية العالمية المعنية بصحة العين، طائرة شحن مجهزة بالكامل لتكون مستشفى يحتوي على أقسام تعليمية حديثة مزّودة بغرفة عمليات، وغرفة للتدريس، وغرفة للإنعاش.

ومن المقرر أن يساهم فريق «أوربس» بدعم أسبوع الدوحة للرعاية الصحية بتنظيم جولات عامة، وخاصة داخل الطائرة للزّوار، بالإضافة إلى استضافة ورش عمل على متن الطائرة، في مجالات التمريض، وطب العيون.

كما سيضع المستشفى التابع لمنظمة «أوربس» الخيرية العالمية منصة في مطار حمد الدولي، بهدف رفع مستوى الوعي حول أهمية تقديم العناية الصحية اللازمة لجميع الذين يعانون من مشاكل يمكن تجنبها في بصرهم.

رؤية

ويتيح المستشفى الطائر للزائرين أيضاً التعرف على مبادرة «قطر تصنع الرؤية»، وهي مبادرة ممولة من صندوق قطر للتنمية، وتحت إشراف وتنفيذ منظمة «أوربس»، وتسعى لتقديم العناية الصحية اللازمة لـ6.5 مليون طفل في الهند وبنجلاديش قبل نهاية منتصف عام 2020 .

وقال السيد أكبر الباكر، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية: «يسر الخطوط الجوية القطرية دعم منظمة «أوربس» ضمن إيماننا ورؤيتنا بدعم المجتمعات المحتاجة، والمشاركة في صنع تغيير حقيقي في العالم».

كما عبر عن سروره باستضافة مستشفى العيون الطائر، بالتزامن مع إقامة فعاليات أسبوع الدوحة للرعاية الصحية «حيث يساهم هذا الأمر في رفع مستوى الوعي حول الحاجة الماسة لتوفير العلاج اللازم لجميع الذين يعانون من مشاكل في بصرهم حول العالم».

بدورها، عبرت السيدة ريبيكا كرونين، الرئيس التنفيذي لأوربس بالمملكة المتحدة، عن امتنانها لاستضافة الخطوط الجوية القطرية مستشفى أوربس الطائر للعيون مرة أخرى.. قائلة: «نفتخر بالعمل مع «القطرية» لتنسيق زيارة المستشفى إلى الدوحة».

دعم

وتدعم «القطرية» منظمة «أوربس» منذ عام 2012، وجددت اتفاقية رعايتها مع المنظمة الصحية الخيرية العام الماضي، لتكون شريك الطيران الرسمي لثلاثة أعوام.

ويزور المستشفى العديد من الدول في إفريقيا، وآسيا، وأميركا الجنوبية، حيث يتشارك الأطباء المختصون بمشاكل العيون خبراتهم ومهاراتهم مع المستشفيات والفرق الطبية المحلية، فيما يقومون بمعالجة المرضى الذين يحتاجون عناية طبية عاجلة، بالإضافة إلى رفع مستوى الوعي حول أهمية صحة العين.

وتعمل «أوربس» على الحد من حالات فقدان البصر في المناطق التي يعاني قاطنوها من مشاكل في عيونهم منذ عام 1982، وذلك بفضل جهود فريق من المتطوعين والخبراء والمختصين في طب العيون.

وتنجز «أوربس» بين أربعة إلى ثمانية برامج تدريبية كل عام، على متن المستشفى الطائر للعيون.. كما تنظم برامج طويلة الأمد في 18 دولة، بما في ذلك بنجلاديش، وإثيوبيا، والهند، وزامبيا، وغيرها.;
