HMC to hold meet on emergency medicine

DOHA: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is set to host the fourth World Academic Congress of Emergency Medicine (WACEM 2018) bringing together 2,000 healthcare professionals from Qatar and internationally.

It will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Hamad Trauma Center.

Under the theme ‘Bridging Gaps and Building Networks in Trauma, Emergency, and Acute Care Medicine: Best Evidence and Practice from Academic Systems’, WACEM 2018 will take place from October 30 to November 4 at the Sheraton Grand Doha. The conference is a collaborative initiative between the Hamad Trauma Center, HMC’s Emergency Medicine Department and the Ambulance Service, and the leadership of WACEM and the Indo-US Health and Medicine Collaborative (INDUSEM).

“On behalf of the organising committee for this prestigious conference, I invite academic leaders, physicians, nurses, paramedics, residents, and students of trauma, emergency and acute care medicine to participate in this unique educational event,” said Dr Hassan Al Thani, Secretary General of WACEM 2018 and Head of the Trauma and Vascular Surgery Sections at HMC’s Hamad General Hospital.

Two days of pre-conference workshops will be also held at HMC’s education centers with the main conference taking place from 1 to 4 November at the Sheraton Grand Doha.

Local and international experts will deliver workshops and presentations on a wide range of emergency medicine topics. Sessions include ‘Evidence-Based Approaches to Acute Medical and Surgical Settings’, ‘Trauma in Pregnancy’, ‘Pain, and Mass Casualty, Research and Education’, ‘Trauma Surgery in the MENA’, and ‘Preparing for World Cup 2022.’

“This conference provides a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals with an interest in emergency medicine, acute surgery care, and trauma to come together to share the latest updates in the field. WACEM 2018 is unique in that is covers the full spectrum of emergency care – from pre-hospital emergency response to acute treatment interventions and rehabilitative care,” said Dr Al Thani.

According to the Chair of the Scientific Committee Dr Ayman El Menyar, there will be 100 speakers from 15 countries in addition to speakers from HMC’s Hamad General Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital, Al Khor Hospital, Heart Hospital, the Medical Research Center, and the Ambulance Service as well as the Ministry of Public Health and Sidra Medicine.

The conference offers up to 19 CPD hours (in addition to workshop CPD hours) and will provide delegates with numerous opportunities for continuing professional education, updates on current and emerging clinical, educational and research issues in the emergency medicine and trauma field, and opportunities to exchange ideas and network with other like-minded professionals working in trauma, emergency, and acute care medicine

وصرّح الدكتور حسن آل ثاني -رئيس أقسام جراحة الإصابات والأوعية الدموية في مستشفى حمد العام بمؤسسة حمد الطبية، وأمين عام المؤتمر الأكاديمي العالمي الرابع لطب الطوارئ 2018- قائلاً: «بالنيابة عن اللجنة المنظمة لهذا المؤتمر المرموق، يطيب لي أن أدعو القادة الأكاديميين والأطباء والممرضين والمسعفين والأطباء المقيمين وطلاب الطب في مجال إصابات الحوادث وطب الطوارئ وطب رعاية الحالات الحرجة، إلى المشاركة في هذا الحدث التعليمي الفريد الذي ننظمه».

واستطرد الدكتور آل ثاني قائلاً: «سوف يتيح المؤتمر الأكاديمي العالمي الرابع لطب الطوارئ 2018، فرصة فريدة من نوعها لأخصائيي الرعاية الصحية المهتمين بطب الطوارئ، ورعاية الجراحة العاجلة، وإصابات الحوادث، لتبادل آخر المستجدات في هذه المجالات. إن المؤتمر الأكاديمي العالمي الرابع لطب الطوارئ فريد من نوعه، بحيث يشمل مجموعة كاملة من خدمات الرعاية في حالات الطوارئ، بدءاً من الاستجابة الطارئة قبل وصول المريض إلى المستشفى، مروراً بالتدخلات العلاجية الحرجة، إلى الرعاية التأهيلية».

وبحسب ما أفاد رئيس اللجنة العلمية الدكتور أيمن المنير، سيشارك في المؤتمر 100 متحدث قدموا من 15 دولة، إلى جانب متحدثين من شبكة مستشفيات مؤسسة حمد الطبية، بما فيها مستشفى حمد العام، ومستشفى الوكرة، ومستشفى الخور، ومستشفى القلب، ومركز البحوث الطبية، وخدمة الإسعاف، فضلاً عن متحدثين من وزارة الصحة العامة ومركز سدرة للطب.;
