Health challenges discussed in Senegal
“ويش” يشارك في اجتماع منظمة الصحة العالمية بالسنغال
Doha: The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), has participated in the 68th session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa in Dakar, Senegal.
Representatives from WISH were invited to the committee meeting in Senegal by Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, in order to better understand the pressing health challenges facing communities across the continent and learn about the efforts being made to control and combat life-threatening diseases such as malaria, Ebola, and other neglected tropical diseases.
The meeting — opened by Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, and Macky Sall, President of Senegal — was attended by health ministers and ministerial delegations from all 47 countries that constitute the WHO Africa region.
They discussed further steps to stem the rise of non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease across the continent, as well as highlighting success stories including the announcement of Africa’s last documented case of wild poliovirus two years ago.
During the meeting, Sultana Afdhal, CEO, WISH, and her team, briefed ministers and other high-level delegates about the forthcoming WISH 2018 summit, to be held at Qatar National Convention Centre on November 13 and 14.
Afdhal also met with Seraya Ali Mahdi Saeed Al Qahtani, Ambassador of Qatar to Senegal, to update him on the highlights of the WHO meeting and the role of WISH as an official observer at the session, as well as to review the various projects undertaken by Qatar in Senegal.
Afdhal said, “WISH is delighted to attend this important event, and we are particularly grateful to be invited as official observers by Dr Moeti, who graciously took time out of her busy schedule to hear about the forthcoming WISH summit and who has accepted our invitation to attend WISH 2018 in November.
“Attending the Senegal meeting offers us a valuable opportunity to learn first-hand about efforts being made across Africa to improve healthcare provision. It has also enabled to speak to ministers and other delegates about WISH 2018 and answer any questions they may have about our summit. We hope to welcome many of those we had the pleasure of meeting in Dakar to our event in Doha in November.”
WISH 2018 will feature nine research forums, each led by an internationally-renowned expert in their field. The forums will highlight and address topics that cover medical, ethical, technological, and humanitarian aspects of healthcare.
WISH’s biennial Doha summits have quickly become established as major highlights of the global healthcare calendar for the thousands of high-level policy-makers, academics, and professionals who attend. Prospective delegates for WISH 2018 are invited to register their interest via www.wish.org.qa.
شارك مؤتمر القمة للابتكار في الرعاية الصحية (ويش)، إحدى مبادرات مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، في الدورة 68 للجنة الإقليمية لمنظمة الصحة العالمية لأفريقيا في داكار، السنغال، حيث تمت دعوة ممثلين من (ويش) إلى اجتماع اللجنة في السنغال من قبل الدكتورة ربيكا ماتشيديزو مويتي المدير الإقليمي لمنظمة الصحة العالمية لأفريقيا، وذلك للتعرف على التحديات الصحية الملحة التي تواجه المجتمعات في جميع أنحاء القارة، وكذلك للاطلاع على الجهود المبذولة لمكافحة ومحاربة الأمراض المهددة للحياة، مثل الملاريا والإيبولا وعدد من الأمراض المدارية المهملة.
وحضر الاجتماع الإقليمي لمنظمة الصحة العالمية في أفريقيا وزراء الصحة ووفود وزارية من47 بلدًا، حيث ترأس الحضور رئيس جمهورية السنغال، السيد ماكي سال، إلى جانب الدكتور تيدروس أدهانوم غيبرييسوس، المدير العام لمنظمة الصحة العالمية، الذي افتتح الاجتماع. وقد ناقش المشاركون فيه ما ينبغي القيام به للحدّ من انتشار الأمراض غير المعدية في جميع أنحاء القارة، مثل السكري وأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية، بالإضافة إلى تسليط الضوء على قصص النجاح الأخيرة، مثل الإعلان عن عدم ظهور أي حالات موثقة جديدة للإصابة بفيروس شلل الأطفال في أفريقيا على مدى عامين.
وقد قام فريق ويش برئاسة السيدة سلطانة أفضل، الرئيس التنفيذي لـ”ويش”، بإطلاع الوزراء ومندوبي الدول المشاركة على قمة (ويش) المقبلة التي من المقرر أن تنعقد في مركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات خلال يومي 13-14 نوفمبر المقبل. هذا واجتمعت السيدة سلطانة أفضل، مع سعادة السيد سريع علي القحطاني سفير دولة قطر لدى جمهورية السنغال، لإطلاعه على أهم المواضيع التي تمت مناقشتها في اجتماع منظمة الصحة العالمية، والجهود المهمة التي يقوم بها (ويش) خلال هذا الاجتماع، إلى جانب تعرف فريق ويش على المشاريع المختلفة التي تقوم دولة قطر بدعمها في السنغال.
وقالت السيدة سلطانة أفضل: “نحن سعداء بحضورنا ومشاركتنا في هذا الحدث الهام، كما أننا نفخر بدعوتنا كمراقبين رسميين من قبل الدكتورة ربيكا ماتشيديزو مويتي، التي أبدت اهتماماً خاصاً بالقمة وأتاحت لنا الفرصة لاطلاعها على الموضوعات التي سيتم طرحها خلال مؤتمر قمة (ويش) المقبل، وقبولها دعوتنا لحضور أعمال القمة في نوفمبر المقبل”.
وأضافت “وفّر لنا اجتماع السنغال فرصة ثمينة للتعرف بصورة مباشرة على الجهود المبذولة في جميع أنحاء أفريقيا لتحسين الرعاية الصحية. كما مكننا أيضاً من التواصل مع الوزراء والمندوبين المشاركين وتسليط الضوء على جهود ويش والإجابة على أي تساؤلات حول القمة. حيث نتطلع إلى الترحيب بالعديد من الوزراء والمشاركين الذين كان لنا الشرف أن نجتمع بهم في داكار في قمتنا بالدوحة نوفمبر المقبل”.
هذا ومن المزمع أن تجمع قمة ويش 2018 قادة عالميين في مجال الرعاية الصحية، لإلقاء الضوء على التحديات الصحية الملحة في العالم ومناقشة سبل معالجتها، وستضم القمة تسعة منتديات بحثية، بإدارة خبراء دوليين بارزين في المجال الصحي. كما سيتخلل المنتديات التسعة، جلسات للبحث في الموضوعات التي تغطي الجوانب الطبية والأخلاقية والتكنولوجية والإنسانية للرعاية الصحية.
