Katara expo glorifies heroic resistance of Qatar on siege

DOHA: Patriotism through creativity is at the core of two art exhibitions at Katara Cultural Village that mark completion of one year since the unjust siege was imposed on Qatar on June 5 last year.

Portraits, cartoons, paintings, caricatures and photographs are showcased at the exhibitions that present a scathing criticism of the siege countries and patriotic representation of Qatar’s heroic resistance against the blockade.

Ahmed Al Sayed, Deputy General Manager of Katara, opened an exhibition of siege-related cartoons by prominent Qatari cartoonists at Building 5 on Tuesday.

The cartoonists are covering one year of the blockade under the hashtag #QatarForEver. Tariq Al Jaida, Manager of Katara Art Center was also present, among other officials, visitors and dignitaries.

The exhibition being organised by Katara Art Center features a host of cartoons by six prominent Qatari cartoonists that appeared in Qatari newspapers and magazines over the past one year. The cartoonists are Abdul Aziz Sadiq, Saad Al Mohannadi, Salman Al Malik, Rashid Al Kuwari, Abdul Aziz Yousuf, and Mohammed Abdullatif. The exhibition will run for three weeks.

The cartoons on the one hand make harsh sarcasm of the siege countries and their failure to defeat Qatar while on the other hand glorify Qatar’s successful resistance against the blockade.

They make strong political statements about the hypocrisy and oppressive measures of the siege countries against Qatar since the blockade was imposed a year ago.

Another exhibition at Building 18 features portraits of Qatari leaders and paintings and photographs focusing on the blockade. It is distinct with symbolic fences at the entrance of the exhibition hall representing the blockade.

A number of portraits of the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani by Qatari artists, depicting him as the icon of Qatari resistance against the siege are on display at the exhibition. It also features portraits of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and other leaders.

Two artworks done with broken glasses and pieces of wood, woven around a Qatari map, show the resilience of Qatar in the midst of the unjust siege.

A cartoon in colour shows a butterfly coming out of the cocoon of the blockade, indicating that Qatar has become stronger and self-sufficient through the continuing siege.

Several photographs that depict Qatari heritage and monuments and capture moments from the Qatari resistance against the siege are also on display.

شهد الحي الثقافي كتارا افتتاح معرض “5/6″الذي يقيمه مركز كتارا للفن، وذلك بحضور كل من السيد أحمد عبد الرحمن السيد نائب المدير العام لشؤون العمليات في كتارا والسيد طارق الجيدة مدير مركز كتارا للفن، بالاضافة إلى عدد من الفنانين والمهتمين.

جاء المعرض بمناسبة مرور عام على الحصار، ويستمر لثلاثة أسابيع، ويتضمن رسوم الكاريكاتير المنشورة بالصحف المحلية على مدار عام كامل، والتي رصد من خلالها ستة رسامين قطريين: عبد العزيز صادق وسعد المهندي وسلمان المالك وراشد الكواري وعبد العزيز يوسف ومحمد عبد اللطيف، تبعات الحصار الجائر على قطر.

وقال السيد أحمد عبد الرحمن السيد إن المعرض يشكل إضافة جديدة للمعارض التي يقدمها مركز كتارا للفن وتحتضنها المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي كتارا حيث يبرز تفاعل رسامي الكاريكاتير مع كل الاحداث التي عاشتها قطر طيلة عام كامل منذ بدء الحصار الجائر. وهو يعبر عن مدى ترابط الفن بما يعيشه المجتمع من تحولات في مختلف المجالات.

من جانبه،أوضح السيد طارق الجيدة أنّ المعرض يرصد أبرز الرسوم الكاريكاتيرية التي جاءت ردا وتفاعلا مع الأحداث المتوالية منذ بدء الحصار الجائر على دولة قطر وردا على الافتراءات والتلفيق في إعلام دول الحصار.

وأضاف أن هذه الرسومات تمثل حالة رد الفعل والاستنكار لدى الشارع القطري من خلال الرسومات الكاريكاتيرية التي تناولت الأحداث بشكل ساخر ولكن هادف وبه الكثير من المعاني العميقة.

ومن جهته،عبّر رسام الكاريكاتير عبدالعزيز صادق عن سروره لمثل هذا المعرض الذي بحسب قوله جمع رسامي الكاريكاتير القطريين لأول مرة تحت سقف واحد. وقال صادق بأن محتوى المعرض فريد من نوعه لأنه سلط الضوء على جانب مهم من رد الفعل القطري على الحصار، فالرسوم بها تسلسل في الأحداث وهي بمثابة توثيق يومي للفترة الماضية وما جاء خلالها من مواقف وقرارات عبر عنها خلال أعماله وبشكل ساخر.

وأضاف أن رسامي الكاريكاتير يختزلون عدة مقالات برسمة واحدة بها عدة رمزيات ومعان يوثقها التاريخ، فلذلك من المهم جدا أن تبرز تلك الأعمال وهو حريص أن تنتشر عبر منصات التواصل الاجتماعي والصحف أيضا لتصل رسالة تلك الرسومات.

من جانب آخر، قال الرسام سعد المهندي إنّ المعرض يحتضن رسوما وثقت حقبة مهمة من تاريخ قطر وفضحت أكاذيب دول الحصار وفندتها. مضيفا أنّ ما تمّ عرضه من رسومات يبرز صمود دولة قطر وتكاتف شعبها مع القيادة الرشيدة ضد الحملة التي شنتها دول الحصار بشتى المجالات. ويرى المهندي بأنه كان من الواجب عليهم كرسامين كاريكاتير أن تكون لهم إسهامات بارزة في هذه القضية المهمة.

تنوع فني

تعليقا عن تصميم مدخل المعرض، أشار السيد طارق الجيدة إلى أنه تمّ تعليق الصحف التي صدرت في دول الحصار والتي تناولت الأخبار الكاذبة والافتراءات والتضليل بشأن الأزمة على شكل مغسلة السيارات لترمز لمحاولة تلك الصحف غسل الأدمغة وتضليل الرأي العام.

وأكد الجيدة بأن المعرض لا يقتصر على أعمال الرسامين المخضرمين والمعروفين بل أيضا شمل فئة الرسامين الشباب من الجيل الجديد.
