MoPH launches expanded hand hygiene campaign
الصحة تطلق حملة لنظافة الأيدي
DOHA: The Ministry of Public Health will launch an expanded hand hygiene campaign today, aiming to raise awareness of the importance of hand washing as a key factor in the prevention of diseases and an indicator of the quality of health care.
The campaign is part of the Ministry’s participation in the celebration of the World Handwashing Day, which falls on May 5 (today), each year and is held this year under the slogan “It is up to you to prevent sepsis in health care facilities.”
During the campaign, awareness-raising activities will take place in a number of hospitals and health facilities in both public and private sectors.
The World Handwashing Day is a valuable initiative and an important opportunity to strengthen partnerships and synergies in health institutions in the public and private sectors, educational institutions and all relevant sectors in Qatar, as well as cooperation with organizations,” especially the World Health Organization (WHO), said Huda Al Katheeri, Director of Health Care and Patient Safety at the Ministry of Public Health.
She noted the need to enhance the collective awareness of the importance of hand hygiene in all places where health care is provided and to seek the implementation of the World Health Assembly resolution 2017 on sepsis, while ensuring that hand hygiene is a national indicator of quality of health care.
Sepsis is a condition that represents one of the complications of the infection and threatens the life of the injured, and occurs when the immune system in the body reacted sharply with the infection, leading to damage the body itself and may lead to organ failure and death, and hands cleaning plays a key role in prevention of the infection.
The awareness campaign calls on health workers to adhere to the five-hour handwashing to prevent sepsis in health care facilities and to leaders in the field of infection prevention and control to be a role model in promoting hand hygiene to prevent sepsis in health care facilities.
WHO estimates that hundreds of millions of patients worldwide suffer from infections associated with health care every year.
WHO notes that most health-related infections can be avoided by keeping hands clean at the right time and in the right way. WHO guidelines on hygiene of hands in health care facilities support the promotion of hand hygiene and improvement in health care facilities.
تطلق وزارة الصحة العامة حملة موسعة لنظافة الأيدي، بهدف رفع الوعي بأهمية غسل اليدين، باعتبارها عاملا أساسيا في الوقاية من الأمراض ومؤشرا على جودة الرعاية الصحية.
تأتى الحملة في إطار مشاركة الوزارة في الاحتفال باليوم العالمي لنظافة الأيدي، والذي يوافق 5 مايو من كل عام، ويقام هذا العام تحت شعار “الأمر بأيديكم امنعوا الإنتان في مرافق الرعاية الصحية”، ويتم خلال الحملة تنفيذ فعاليات توعوية في عدد من المستشفيات والمرافق الصحية في القطاعين العام والخاص.
وأكدت السيدة هدى الكثيري مدير إدارة جودة الرعاية الصحية وسلامة المرضى في وزارة الصحة العامة أن اليوم العالمي لنظافة الأيدي يعد مبادرة قيمة وفرصة هامة لتعزيز الشراكات وتضافر الجهود في المؤسسات الصحية بالقطاعين العام والخاص والمؤسسات التعليمية وكافة القطاعات ذات الصلة في دولة قطر، بالإضافة إلى التعاون مع المنظمات العالمية وعلى رأسها منظمة الصحة العالمية.
وأشارت إلى ضرورة تعزيز الوعي الجماعي بأهمية نظافة الأيدي في كافة الأماكن التي يتم فيها توفير الرعاية الصحية، والسعي لتنفيذ قرار جمعية الصحة العالمية في عام 2017 بشأن الإنتان مع الحرص على جعل نظافة الأيدي مؤشراً وطنياً لجودة الرعاية الصحية.
يذكر أن الإنتان (ويعرف أيضا بتعفن الدم) هو حالة تمثل إحدى مضاعفات العدوى وتهدد حياة المصاب، وتحدث عندما يتفاعل جهاز المناعة في الجسم بشكل حاد مع العدوى، مما يقود إلى الإضرار بالجسم نفسه، وقد يؤدي إلى فشل الأعضاء والوفاة، وتلعب نظافة الأيدي دوراً رئيسياً في الوقاية من هذه العدوى.
ويتم خلال الحملة التوعوية توجيه دعوات هامة إلى العاملين الصحيين أن يلتزموا بالأوقات الخمسة لغسل أيديهم للوقاية من الإنتان في مرافق الرعاية الصحية، وإلى القادة في مجال الوقاية من العدوى ومكافحتها، بأن يكونوا مثلاً يحتذى به في الترويج لنظافة الأيدي للوقاية من الإنتان في مرافق الرعاية الصحية”، وإلى قادة العمل في المرافق الصحية أن يمنعوا الإنتان في مرافق الرعاية الصحية، ويجعلوا نظافة الأيدي مؤشراً للجودة في مستشفياتهم.
وتوضح تقديرات منظمة الصحة العالمية أن مئات الملايين من المرضى في العالم يصابون سنوياً بحالات عدوى مرتبطة بالرعاية الصحية، وتشير المنظمة إلى أنه من الممكن تلافي معظم حالات العدوى المرتبطة بالرعاية الصحية من خلال الحفاظ على نظافة اليدين في الوقت المناسب وبالطريقة السليمة. وتدعم مبادئ المنظمة التوجيهية بشأن نظافة اليدين في مرافق الرعاية الصحية تعزيز نظافة اليدين وتحسينها في مرافق الرعاية الصحية.
