Qatar’s Balance of Payments Surplus Soars by 188%: QCB Report

Doha: The value of Qatar’s balance of payments surplus surged by 188.28% year-on-year during the first quarter of the current year, according to a survey released by the Central Bank of Qatar yesterday. The Qatari balance of payments surplus reached 1.796 billion riyals in the first quarter of the current year, compared to a surplus of 623 million riyals during the corresponding quarter of 2022.

The annual growth of the surplus was primarily supported by a jump in the current account surplus by about 13.06% to reach 42.261 billion riyals in the first quarter of 2023, compared to its level of 37.38 billion riyals in the corresponding quarter.

According to the survey, the current account was affected by a decline in the surplus of the goods account, including goods, services, income, and transfers, by approximately 6.56%, amounting to 70.338 billion riyals, along with a yearly decrease of 44.33% in the services account deficit to 7.92 billion riyals. Additionally, the deficit in the income and transfers account decreased by 19.7% and 11.97% respectively, reaching 7.096 billion riyals and 13.061 billion riyals.

The data also revealed that the capital and financial account recorded a deficit of 38.905 billion riyals in the first quarter of 2023, marking an increase of 14.49% compared to its level of 33.979 billion riyals in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

الدوحة: شهدت دولة قطر زيادة ملحوظة في قيمة فائض ميزان المدفوعات خلال الربع الأول من العام الجاري، حيث ارتفع هذا الفائض بنسبة 188.28% على أساس سنوي، وذلك وفقًا لمسح صادر عن البنك المركزي القطري أمس. وصلت قيمة فائض ميزان المدفوعات القطري في الربع الأول من العام الحالي إلى 1.796 مليار ريال، مقارنةً بـ 623 مليون ريال فائضًا في الربع المقابل من عام 2022.

وقد ساهمت زيادة فائض الحساب الجاري بشكل أساسي في النمو السنوي للفائض، حيث ارتفع بنسبة 13.06% إلى 42.261 مليار ريال في الربع الأول من عام 2023، مقارنةً بمستواه في الربع المقابل البالغ 37.38 مليار ريال.

وبحسب المسح، تأثر الحساب الجاري بتراجع فائض الحساب السلعي الذي يشمل السلع والخدمات والدخل والتحويلات بنسبة 6.56% ليصل إلى 70.338 مليار ريال، وشهد عجز حساب الخدمات انخفاضًا بنسبة 44.33% سنويًا ليصل إلى 7.92 مليار ريال. كما تراجع عجز حساب الدخل والتحويلات بنسبة 19.7% و11.97% على التوالي ليصل إلى 7.096 مليار ريال و13.061 مليار ريال على الترتيب.

وأشارت البيانات أيضًا إلى أن الحساب الرأسمالي والمالي سجل عجزًا في الربع الأول من عام 2023 بقيمة 38.905 مليار ريال، بارتفاع 14.49% عن مستواه في الربع المقابل من العام الماضي البالغ 33.979 مليار ريال.
