Doha: Exchange houses in Qatar experienced a significant surge in remittances during the festive season of Eid Al Adha, reflecting the robust economy and the availability of secure channels for sending money abroad. These exchange offices play a pivotal role in facilitating foreign remittances and currency exchange, thereby contributing to the overall stability and growth of the economy.
Officials from exchange houses in Qatar have reported a remarkable increase in the number of remittances and exchange transactions. Muddasar Waheed Malik, the Branch Manager of Islamic Exchange, highlighted the rising trend of exchanges and transfers to and from Qatar, along with the escalating demand for foreign currencies. He emphasized that the number of remittances alone has reached an average of 700 to 800 per day during this period.
The demand for foreign currencies, particularly the Saudi Riyal and the UAE Dirham, witnessed a substantial rise as citizens and residents flocked to exchange offices to purchase currencies for their vacations or to transfer money to their families. Furthermore, there has been a strong demand for the US dollar, followed by the euro and pound sterling currencies.
Regarding the destinations of remittances from Qatar, Malik noted that India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh topped the list, with other Asian countries also receiving significant amounts. During this festive season, many people have been sending money to their families to assist with Eid expenses, prompting exchange houses to work diligently to meet the demands of their clients.
Another representative from a reputable exchange house confirmed the doubling of demand for foreign currencies before Eid Al Adha, as is typically observed during holiday seasons. The Gulf region, including Qatar, hosts a substantial expatriate working community, and a significant portion of their hard-earned money is remitted to their loved ones and dependents in their home countries. Notably, Asian workers account for nearly half of the total remittances, with remittances to Arab and African countries following suit.
The remittances made by expatriate workers not only contribute to the foreign exchange earnings of many developing countries but also have far-reaching effects on trade expansion, employment generation, and overall livelihood development. وقال: “شهدنا زيادة حادة في عدد التحويلات، تتراوح بين حوالي 700 إلى 800 تحويلة يوميًا”.
وأضاف: “خلال هذه الفترة، شهدت البلاد زايدة في الطلب على الريال السعودي والدرهم الإماراتي، حيث حضر عدد كبير من المواطنين والمقيمين في الأيام القليلة الماضية لشراء العملات الأجنبية لقضاء عطلتهم خارج البلاد، وكذلك زاد الطلب على الدولار الأمريكي واليورو والجنيه الاسترليني”.
وبالنسبة لوجهات التحويلات المرسلة من قطر إلى الخارج، لفت مالك إلى أن الهند وباكستان وبنغلاديش تتصدر القائمة، تليها بلدان آسيوية أخرى.
وخلال هذا الموسم، قام الناس بتحويل الأموال لعائلاتهم لمساعدتهم في مصاريف عيد الأضحى، وعملت مكاتب الصرافة على تلبية طلب جميع العملاء.
وأكد مسؤول آخر في إحدى مكاتب الصرافة الرصينة أن الطلب على العملات الأجنبية ازداد بنسبة مضاعفة قبيل عيد الأضحى، حيث يزداد إقبال الناس عادةً خلال فترة العطلات.
تحوي منطقة الخليج قسمًا كبيرًا من مجتمع العمال المغتربين على مستوى العالم، وتعد قطر بيتًا لعدد كبير من الوافدين الذين يرسلون أموالهم العائدة من التعب والعمل إلى أحبائهم واهاليهم في بلدانهم الأصلية. وأضاف: “تمثل التحويلات المالية للعمال الآسيويين حوالي نصف إجمالي التحويلات، تليها التحويلات إلى الدول العربية والأفريقية”.
