QatarEnergy Celebrates Steel Cutting of the First Korean LNG Vessel for Fleet Expansion

Doha: QatarEnergy celebrated the steel cutting of the first of its new generation of chartered Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vessels to be constructed in a Korean shipyard.
Building upon an already successful global maritime initiative, QatarEnergy joined Samsung Heavy Industries, and JP Morgan Asset Management in a special ceremony on Geoje Island in the Republic of Korea to celebrate this milestone, which is part of QatarEnergy’s historic LNG Fleet Expansion Project.
This event signifies an extension of QatarEnergy’s international collaborations and commitment to global partnerships and follows the October 2022 successful initiation of steel cutting at Hudong-Zhonghua, a Chinese shipyard renowned for its excellence in LNG shipbuilding.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the CEO of Qatargas, attending on behalf of HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, the CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries Jin-Taek Jung, and the CEO of JP Morgan’s Global Transport Group Andy Dacy. Also in attendance were senior executives from QatarEnergy and Qatargas.
The steel cutting ceremony in South Korea follows QatarEnergy’s 2020 decision to enter into Ship Slot Reservation Agreements with three Korean shipyards: Samsung Heavy Industries, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.
Subsequently, in 2022, QatarEnergy signed multiple Time Charter Parties with various shipowners, including affiliates of JP Morgan Asset Management, a fund investing in a wide array of transportation assets.

الدوحة: كشفت “قطر للطاقة” عن بدء أعمال البناء في أولى سفن الجيل الجديد المستأجرة لنقل الغاز الطبيعي المسال، والتي سيتم بناؤها في حوض لبناء السفن في جمهورية كوريا.
وانضمت قطر للطاقة إلى شركة /سامسونغ/ للصناعات الثقيلة وشركة /جي بي مورغان/ لإدارة الأصول للاحتفال بهذا الإنجاز المهم، والذي يعد جزءا من مشروع قطر للطاقة التاريخي لتوسعة أسطولها من سفن الغاز الطبيعي المسال، وذلك خلال حفل خاص في جزيرة /جيوجي/ بكوريا الجنوبية.
ويمثل هذا الحدث امتدادا لجهود قطر للطاقة في التعاون الدولي والتزامها بالشراكات العالمية، ويأتي في أعقاب البدء الناجح بأعمال بناء السفن في حوض /هودونغ-جونغوا/ الصيني والمشهور بتميزه في بناء سفن الغاز الطبيعي المسال.
حضر الحفل كل من الشيخ خالد بن خليفة آل ثاني، الرئيس التنفيذي لـ/قطر غاز/، ممثلا عن سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريدة الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للطاقة، والسيد جين-تيك جونغ، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة /سامسونغ/ للصناعات الثقيلة، والسيد آندي ديسي، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة /جي بي مورغان/ لإدارة الأصول. كما حضر الحفل عدد من كبار المسؤولين في قطر للطاقة وقطر غاز.
ويأتي حفل قطع ألواح الفولاذ في كوريا الجنوبية عقب قرار قطر للطاقة عام 2020 حجز سعة بناء لسفن الغاز الطبيعي المسال في ثلاثة أحواض بناء سفن كورية، لشركات سامسونغ للصناعات الثقيلة، وهيونداي للصناعات الثقيلة، ودايو لبناء السفن والهندسة البحرية.
وفي وقت لاحق، وقعت قطر للطاقة عام 2022 عدة عقود تأجير طويلة الأجل مع عدد من مالكي السفن، بما في ذلك شركات تابعة لشركة /جي بي مورغان/ لإدارة الأصول، وهي صندوق يستثمر في مجموعة واسعة من أصول النقل.
