Qatar Creates Unveils New Exhibition in Venice

Venice: On the eve of International Museum Day, Qatar Creates has unveiled the new documentary exhibition Building a Creative Nation, the first presentation outside the country about Qatar’s next generation of cultural institutions. On view at ACP Palazzo Franchetti during the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the exhibition will be open until 26 November 2023.

The exhibition, designed by 2 x 4, highlights the development of Qatars cultural sector over the past 18 years, and demonstrates Qatar Museums commitment to promoting cultural understanding and exchange through its establishment of a world-class portfolio of museums, galleries, and public art, which serve not only to preserve cultural heritage but also as platforms for education, research, and entertainment for the public.

Building a Creative Nation underscores Qatars steadfast commitment to expanding the countrys cultural landscape over the last eighteen years and showcases plans for five more cultural institutions in collaboration with internationally renowned architectural firms, including Art Mill Museum by ELEMENTAL led by Alejandro Aravena, Lusail Museum by Herzog & de Meuron, Qatar Auto Museum by Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), Qatar Preparatory School by Philippe Starck, and Dadu, Childrens Museum of Qatar by UNStudio.

An insightful talk titled “The Evolving Role of Museums and Architecture in Fostering Cultural Engagement” took place to accompany the exhibition on 17 May. The esteemed panel of speakers included Alejandro Aravena, architect and executive director of Elemental, Ben van Berkel, architect and founder of UNStudio, and Sheikha Reem Al Thani, Acting Deputy CEO of Exhibitions for Qatar Museums, who shared their expertise and perspectives. The talk focused on the transformation of museums from mere structures housing collections to active players in fostering local talent, promoting cultural heritage, and engaging with communities.

The group also discussed topics such as how museums’ changing roles in social and cultural life influence design, and the significant role architecture plays in shaping the cultural identity of a city or country.

The talk was followed by a private event held on the same evening, hosted by His Excellency Khalid bin Yousuf Al Sada, Qatars Ambassador to Italy, who welcomed international guests, architects, museum directors and Qatar Museums representatives, for a preview of the next generation of Qatars cultural institutions.

Sheikha Reem Al-Thani remarked on the exhibition, saying: “We are incredibly proud to share our vision for the next generation of cultural institutions with the world. This unique exhibition showcases our commitment to cultural evolution, combining innovation with respect for our past.” The unveiling of the exhibition coincides with International Museum Day, an annual celebration held on 18 May which raises awareness about the part museums play in the development of society. The day, which is marked by cultural institutions around the world, intends to highlight the ways in which museums contribute to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, as well as their role in education, research, and entertainment, values which align with Qatar Museums forward-looking cultural objectives, outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

البندقية: بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للمتاحف، كشفت مبادرة “قطر تبدع” النقاب عن المعرض الوثائقي الجديد “نبني أمة مبدعة”، وهو المعرض الأول الذي يقام خارج قطر للتعريف بالجيل القادم من المؤسسات الثقافية في قطر، وقام ضمن (المعرض الدولي الثامن عشر للعمارة – بينالي البندقية) بإيطاليا في مؤسسة /آرت كابيتال بارتنرز بقصر كافالي فرانكيتي/، ويستمر حتى 26 نوفمبر المقبل.

ويسلط معرض “نبني أمة مبدعة” وهو من تصميم / 2×4 / الضوء على تطور القطاع الثقافي في دولة قطر على مدى السنوات الـ 18 الماضية، ويظهر اهتمام متاحف قطر بتعزيز التفاهم والتبادل الثقافي من خلال إنشائها لمجموعة عالمية من المتاحف والمعارض، وأعمال الفن العام، والتي لا تسهم فقط في الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي، ولكنها أيضا تلعب دور منصات للتعليم والبحث والتثقيف والترفيه للجمهور.

كما يحتفي المعرض بإرث قطر المتمثل في الاستثمار في المتاحف والفضاءات الثقافية ذات المستوى العالمي، ويعطي إضاءة عن المستقبل، ويؤكد التزام قطر الراسخ بتوسيع دائرة المشهد الثقافي للبلاد على مدى الثمانية عشر عاما الماضية.

ويعرض خططا لخمس مؤسسات ثقافية أخرى بالتعاون مع شركات معمارية مرموقة عالميا، وهي مطاحن الفن من تصميم استديو إيليمنتال بقيادة أليخاندرو أرافينا، ومتحف لوسيل من تصميم هيرتزوغ ودي مورون، ومتحف قطر للسيارات من تصميم مكتب متروبوليتان للعمارة (أو إم إيه)، ومدرسة قطر الإعدادية من تصميم فيليب ستارك، ودد – متحف الأطفال في قطر من تصميم يو إن استديو.

وقد أقيم على هامش معرض “نبني أمة مبدعة” حوار بعنوان “الدور المتطور للمتاحف والعمارة في تعزيز المشاركة الثقافية” بمشاركة الشيخة ريم آل ثاني، نائب الرئيس التنفيذي بالوكالة للمعارض في متاحف قطر، وأليخاندرو أرافينا، المهندس المعماري والمدير التنفيذي لاستديو إيليمنتال، وبن فان بيركل، المهندس المعماري ومؤسس يو إن استديو، الذين شاركوا الحضور خبراتهم ووجهات نظرهم. وأكدوا تحول المتاحف من مجرد مبان تضم مجموعات فنية إلى مؤسسات تنشط في رعاية المواهب المحلية، وتعزيز التراث الثقافي، والانخراط مع المجتمعات.

وناقش المتحدثون أيضا موضوعات مثل كيفية تأثير الأدوار المتغيرة للمتاحف في الحياة الاجتماعية والثقافية على التصميم، والدور المهم الذي تلعبه العمارة في تشكيل الهوية الثقافية لمدينة أو دولة بعينها.

وقد تبع الحوار فعالية خاصة استضاف فيها سعادة السيد خالد بن يوسف السادة سفير دولة قطر لدى الجمهورية الإيطالية، ضيوفا دوليين ومهندسين معماريين ومديري متاحف، علاوة على وفد متاحف قطر، وذلك في جولة استعرضت الجيل القادم من المؤسسات الثقافية في قطر.

وفي الكلمة التي ألقتها في هذه الفعالية، قالت الشيخة ريم آل ثاني: “نفخر بعرض رؤيتنا للجيل القادم من المؤسسات الثقافية للعالم. حيث يظهر هذا المعرض الفريد التزامنا بالتطور الثقافي، ويجمع بين الابتكار وإجلالنا للماضي”.

وتعمل مبادرة “قطر تبدع” على التعريف بالأنشطة الثقافية في قطر والاحتفاء بها والترويج لها. وتسعى عبر تعاونها مع الشركاء في قطاعات المتاحف والأفلام والأزياء والضيافة والتراث الثقافي وفنون الأداء والقطاع الخاص لإعلاء صوت الصناعات الإبداعية في قطر، وربط الجمهور مباشرة بالفعاليات والأنشطة الثقافية المتنوعة.

ويهدف الاحتفال باليوم العالمي للمتاحف في 18 مايو من كل عام إلى زيادة الوعي بالدور الذي تلعبه المتاحف في تنمية المجتمع. ويرمي إلى الترويج للطرق التي تساهم بها المتاحف في الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي وتعزيزه، فضلا عن دورها في التعليم والبحث والترفيه، وهي قيم تتوافق مع أهداف متاحف قطر الثقافية التي دائما ما تكون في طليعة التطور، تحقيقا لرؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.
