QatarEnergy Announces Awarding EPC Contract for North Field South Project

Doha: QatarEnergy announces the award of the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the North Field South (NFS) project, which comprises two LNG mega trains with a combined capacity of 16 million tons per annum (MTPA).
The contract was signed by HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi; President of Technip Energies Arnaud Pieton, and CCC Managing Director Qatar Oussama El Jerbi in the attendance of Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and senior executives from QatarEnergy, Qatargas, Technip Energies and CCC.
The EPC contracts value is around $10 billion, and its scope covers the construction of two mega LNG trains with a capacity of 8 MTPA each, with associated facilities for gas treatment, natural gas liquids recovery, as well as helium extraction and refining within Ras Laffan Industrial City.
In addition to the carbon capture and sequestration facilities, the environmental attributes of the NFS project also include importing a significant portion of the projects electrical power requirements from the grid in the form of renewable solar power, which will be generated at QatarEnergys solar power facilities currently under construction in Ras Laffan Industrial City. It also includes a ‘jetty boil-off gas’ recovery system, which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project will also conserve five million cubic meters of water per year by recovering 75% of the plant’s tertiary water. Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions will also be minimized through the application of enhanced Dry Low NOx technology.
Commenting on the award of the EPC contract, HE Minister Al Kaabi said: “QatarEnergy is proud to announce yet another significant milestone in the worlds largest LNG project, reinforcing our commitment to meeting the global demand for Natural Gas.” His Excellency added: “The NFS project is a unique development that minimizes its environmental footprint by design. It includes one of the largest CO2 capture and sequestration facilities and constitutes an important step towards achieving QatarEnergys target of more than 11 MTPA of CO2 capture and sequestration by 2035.” NFS, together with the North Field East (NFE) project, will increase Qatars LNG production capacity from the current 77 MTPA to 126 MTPA. QatarEnergy holds a 75% interest in the NFS project and has already signed partnership agreements with TotalEnergies, Shell, and ConocoPhillips for the remaining 25%.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held to mark the award of the EPC contract for the two LNG trains and associated facilities with a joint venture of Technip Energies and Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC).
Minister Al Kaabi thanked the management and working teams of QatarEnergy and Qatargas for their sincere and dedicated efforts in implementing the North Field expansion projects. He also extended his thanks and appreciation to the management and staff of Technip Energies and CCC for their contributions and voiced warm gratitude to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for His Highness’ invaluable guidance and unwavering support to QatarEnergy and Qatars energy sector.

الدوحة: أعلنت قطر للطاقة اليوم، عن توقيع عقد الهندسة والمشتريات والإنشاءات الرئيسي في مشروع حقل الشمال الجنوبي الذي يضم خطين عملاقين لإنتاج الغاز الطبيعي المسال بطاقة إنتاجية إجمالية تبلغ 16 مليون طن سنويا.
وقع الاتفاق سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريدة الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للطاقة، والسيد آرنو بيتون، رئيس شركة تكنيب إنرجيز، والسيد أسامة الجربي، العضو المنتدب للمنطقة (قطر) في شركة اتحاد المقاولين، وذلك بحضور الشيخ خالد بن خليفة آل ثاني، الرئيس التنفيذي لقطر غاز وكبار المسؤولين التنفيذيين من قطر للطاقة وقطرغاز، وتكنيب إنرجيز، واتحاد المقاولين.
ويشتمل عقد الهندسة والمشتريات والإنشاءات الرئيسي، والبالغة قيمته حوالي عشرة مليارات دولار أمريكي، على بناء خطين لإنتاج الغاز الطبيعي المسال بطاقة تبلغ 8 ملايين طن سنويا لكل منهما، إضافة إلى المنشآت المرافقة لمعالجة الغاز واستعادة سوائل الغاز الطبيعي، وكذلك استخراج الهيليوم وتكريره في مدينة راس لفان الصناعية.
وبالإضافة إلى مرافق احتجاز ثاني أكسيد الكربون وتخزينه، تشمل المزايا البيئية للمشروع استيراد جزء كبير من احتياجاته الكهربائية من الشبكة عبر الطاقة الشمسية المتجددة، والتي سيتم توليدها في مشاريع الطاقة الشمسية التابعة لقطر للطاقة التي يجري بناؤها حاليا في مدينة راس لفان الصناعية، كما سيساعد نظام استرجاع الغاز المتبخر أثناء الشحن على تقليل انبعاثات غازات الاحتباس الحراري.
إضافة إلى ذلك، سيوفر المشروع خمسة ملايين متر مكعب من المياه سنويا عن طريق استعادة 75 بالمئة من مياه الصرف الصناعي، بينما سيتم تقليل انبعاثات أكاسيد النيتروجين (NOx) من خلال تطبيق تقنية Dry Low NOx المحسنة.
وقال سعادة الوزير “إن إعلان التوقيع يعتبر إنجازا مهما آخر في مسيرة تنفيذ مشروع الغاز الطبيعي المسال الأكبر في العالم، مما يعزز التزامنا بتلبية الطلب العالمي على الغاز”.
وأضاف سعادته: “يعتبر مشروع حقل الشمال الجنوبي مشروعا فريدا من نوعه، حيث صمم خصيصا بشكل يقلل من أثره البيئي.. ويشتمل المشروع على واحدة من أكبر مرافق التقاط وعزل ثاني أكسيد الكربون، وهو ما يشكل خطوة مهمة نحو تحقيق هدف استراتيجية قطر للطاقة بالتقاط وعزل أكثر من 11 مليون طن سنويا من ثاني أكسيد الكربون بحلول عام 2035”.
وسيعمل هذا المشروع، إلى جانب مشروع حقل الشمال الشرقي، على رفع الطاقة الإنتاجية لدولة قطر من الغاز الطبيعي المسال من 77 مليون طن سنويا حاليا إلى 126 مليون طن سنويا. وتمتلك قطر للطاقة حصة تبلغ 75 بالمئة في المشروع، حيث كانت قد وقعت اتفاقيات شراكة مع كل من توتال إنرجيز وشل وكونوكو فيليبس للحصة المتبقية والبالغة 25 بالمئة.
