BioNTech and Pfizer: Our vaccine is effective against the Indian strain

German company BioNTech and its U.S. partner Pfizer announced Wednesday that their coronavirus vaccine is effective against the Indian strain.

This comes at a time when India set a world record for the number of daily infections in Corona as the death toll from the virus on Wednesday exceeded 200,000.

The second wave of Corona in India has seen more than 300,000 people infected every day over the past week, exceeding the ability of health-care facilities and crematoriums to operate and triggering a broad international response to India’s assistance.

Deaths increased by 3,293, the largest daily toll in India to date, bringing the number of deaths from Coronavirus to 201,187.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Tuesday that india’s mutated Covid-19 version, suspected of being responsible for plunging India into a major health crisis, has been monitored in “at least 17 countries.”

Since the beginning of the epidemic, India has recorded about 18 million cases, including 200,000 deaths, second only to the United States.

وشهدت الموجة الثانية من كورونا في الهند إصابة أكثر من 300 ألف شخص يوميا خلال الأسبوع الماضي، مما فاق قدرة مرافق الرعاية الصحية ومحارق الجثث على العمل وأثار استجابة دولية واسعة لمساعدة الهند.

وزادت الوفيات بواقع 3293، في أكثر حصيلة يومية في الهند حتى الآن، مما يرفع عدد المتوفين جراء الإصابة بفيروس كورونا إلى 201 ألف و187.

وفي سياق متصل أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية، الثلاثاء، أن نسخة كوفيد-19 المتحورة الهندية التي يُشتبه في أنها المسؤولة عن إغراق الهند في أزمة صحية كبيرة، قد رُصِدت في “17 دولة على الأقل”.

ومنذ بداية الوباء، سجلت الهند حوالي 18 مليون حالة بما في ذلك 200 ألف حالة وفاة، لتأتي في المرتبة الثانية بعد الولايات المتحدة.
