Geneva: Swiss UBS bank seeks to complete the “Credit Suisse” acquisition by the end of June, underscoring that the merger represents “a unique opportunity to create value.”

Switzerland’s largest bank reported a $1 billion net profit in the first quarter of 2023, well below expectations of $1.7 billion, but recorded significant capital inflows over the same period, reflecting customer confidence.

“Our solid underlying performance and strong inflows this quarter demonstrate that we continue to be a source of stability for our clients during periods of significant uncertainty. Our balance sheet for all seasons and a diversified and capital-generative business model allowed us to be part of the solution in a critical moment for the Swiss and global financial systems,” UBS’s Group CEO Sergio P. Ermotti said in a statement.

“With the planned acquisition of Credit Suisse, we are taking another transformational step in UBS’s journey, while remaining committed to our culture, strategy and disciplined risk management. With this transaction, we expect to reinforce our position as a leading and truly global wealth manager with strategic scale and complementary capabilities in the most attractive growth markets.”

جنيف: أعرب مصرف “يو بي إس” السويسري عن أمله في استكمال إجراءات الاستحواذ على منافسه “كريدي سويس” في نهاية يونيو، مؤكدا أن عملية الدمج تمثل “فرصة فريدة لخلق قيمة”.

وأشار أكبر البنوك في سويسرا إلى أنه حقق أرباحا صافية قدرها مليار دولار، أي أقل بكثير من التوقعات بـ 1.7 مليار، لكنه أعلن عن “تدفق رؤوس أموال كبيرة” خلال الفترة ذاتها، ما يدل على ثقة العملاء، بحسب بيان النتائج الفصلية.

وأكد المدير العام الجديد للبنك سيرجو إرموتي، العائد إلى المنصب الذي كان قد شغله سابقا لقيادة الاستحواذ على “كريدي سويس”، أنه “مقتنع بأن هذه الصفقة ستسهم في تعزيز المكانة الرائدة للمركز المالي السويسري، وستفيد الاقتصاد كله”، كما جاء في البيان.

وكان بنك “يو بي إس” وافق في 19 مارس على شراء منافسه”كريدي سويس”، تحت ضغط السلطات، في صفقة بلغت ثلاثة مليارات فرنك سويسري (3.02 مليار يورو)، وبضمانات مالية من الحكومة الاتحادية والبنك المركزي.

وأنقذت هذه الصفقة ثاني أكبر مصرف في سويسرا من الإفلاس، ما كان سيؤدي إلى “أضرار اقتصادية لا يمكن إصلاحها”، وتابعت: “لذا على سويسرا أن تضطلع بمسؤولياتها بما يتخطى حدودها”، كما حذرت وزيرة المالية السويسرية كارين كيلر – سوتر.

ويرزح القطاع المصرفي تحت وطأة ضغوط كبرى منذ أن رفعت البنوك المركزية الرئيسية أسعار الفائدة، في محاولة للسيطرة على التضخم، وأخفقت مؤسسات عدة في الاستعداد للمخاطر الراهنة، بعدما بقيت سنوات تستفيد من تمويل بفائدة ضئيلة.
