Msheireb Museums Hosts 2nd Earth Talk Lecture ‘Islam and the Environment’

Doha: Msheireb Museums, the leading cultural and tourist destination at Msheireb Downtown Doha, in partnership with Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar (AYCMQ), hosted the second lecture in the Earth Talk Series on the topic, ‘Islam and the Environment’.
The Earth Talk series is held every two months and features influential local and global experts who discuss a wide range of topics related to sustainability, with this lecture covering an introduction to Islamic Environmental Ethics, its practical applications, and its role in addressing the climate crisis.
Three keynote speeches were delivered by Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) Ahmed Mohamed Al Sada, HE U.S. Ambassador to the State of Qatar Timmy Davis, and Msheireb Museums Manager Abdulla Al Naama.
The speeches were followed by a presentation and talk by Senior Consultant at the Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Science and EcoIslam in the United Kingdom Mark Bryant.
In his speech, Ahmed Mohamed Al Sada said that environmental protection is an important aspect of Islam and other religions, highlighting the responsibility of Muslims to care for the environment proactively.
For his part, Msheireb Museums Manager Abdulla Al Naama highlighted the role of Msheireb Museums in raising awareness of such topics and promoting sustainability among community members. “The Earth Talks series is informative and insightful, with the second lecture focusing on introducing Islamic Environmental Ethics and its practical applications in addressing the climate crisis. It is important to further the conversation around the intersection of religion and the environment, and we should all take positive action to create a sustainable future for all”, he added.
Senior Consultant at the Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Science and EcoIslam Mark Bryant (Abdallah Bryant) delivered a detailed presentation showing how Islam urges people to conserve resources and protect the environment. He said: “These aspects are highlighted in the principles of Islam and the Quran. Islam has a very strong environmental ethic, and Islam is environmental. Muslims often need to relearn this because it is part of their faith, and we need to emphasize this part in our life to save ourselves and the rest of the planet and be good Muslims.” Bryant highlighted the importance of such lectures to learn from the past for securing a better future. “I am excited to be here at Msheireb Museums in Qatar to exchange thoughts and insights, and I am confident that such talks will help spread our positive messages to the wider community.” Previously held at Qatar National Library, Qatar Foundation, and other venues in Doha, the Earth Talk lectures have drawn a wide range of community members, high-level officials, and educators interested in sustainability.
The series fulfills Msheireb Downtown Doha and Msheireb Museums’ commitment to be leaders in sustainability and innovation and to advance the local conversation on the issues of climate change, ecological challenges and solutions, and corporate social responsibility.
Leading intellectuals and policymakers spark discussions on how to make a transformative change in the community for a better sustainable future. The series also invites representatives of NGOs and development agencies to provide on-the-ground perspectives.

الدوحة: استضافت متاحف مشيرب، الوجهة الثقافية والسياحية الرائدة في مشيرب قلب الدوحة، وبالشراكة مع حركة الشباب العربي للمناخ في قطر، الجلسة الثانية من سلسلة محادثات الأرض تحت عنوان “الإسلام والبيئة” وذلك في بيت بن جلمود.
تعد هذه الندوة من سلسلة محادثات الأرض التي تقام كل شهرين بمشاركة شخصيات وخبراء محليين وعالميين وتبحث في مواضيع متنوعة متعلقة بالاستدامة والمناخ، وتناولت الجلسة مقدمة عن الأخلاق البيئية الإسلامية وتطبيقاتها العملية ودورها في معالجة أزمة المناخ.
شهدت الجلسة كلمات لكل من، المهندس أحمد محمد السادة وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون التغير المناخي بوزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي، وسعادة السيد تيمي ديفيس سفير الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية لدى الدولة، والسيد عبدالله النعمة مدير متاحف مشيرب، وتلاها عرض تقديمي من السيد مارك براينت كبير المستشارين في المؤسسة الإسلامية لعلوم البيئة في المملكة المتحدة.
وخلال كلمته، قال المهندس أحمد محمد السادة إن حماية البيئة جانب رئيسي ومهم في الإسلام والأديان الأخرى، مشددا على مسؤولية المسلمين في حماية البيئة بشكل استباقي.
وأضاف وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون التغير المناخي في وزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي “حماية البيئة أمر جوهري في العقيدة الإسلامية، والبشرية لديها مسؤولية كبيرة في حماية الطبيعة، يجب علينا أخذ التدابير الضرورية لضمان المحافظة على بيئتنا ونشر هذه الثقافة لدى الأجيال القادمة بأفضل طريقة ممكنة”.
بدوره، أكد عبدالله النعمة مدير متاحف مشيرب على دور متاحف مشيرب في رفع التوعية ونشر ثقافة الاستدامة بين أفراد المجتمع، مضيفا “تمثل سلسلة محادثات الأرض جلسات غنية بالمعلومات والأفكار، وهذه الجلسة الثانية التي تدور حول البيئة والإسلام والتطبيقات العملية الواجب إتباعها لمواجهة التحديات المناخية، من المهم الحديث بعمق حول تقاطع القيم بين البيئة والدين، ويجب علينا جميعا القيام بخطوات إيجابية لخلق مستقبل مستدام”.
من جانبه، قدم السيد مارك براينت كبير المستشارين في المؤسسة الإسلامية لعلوم البيئة في المملكة المتحدة عرضا تقديميا أظهر مدى أهمية البيئة والمحافظة عليها في الدين الإسلامي والتعاليم القرآنية. وقال: “الإسلام لديه اهتمام كبير بالبيئة والممارسات الصحيحة، والإسلام في الأساس يحث على ذلك ويشجع المسلمين على إتباع الممارسات المناسبة للمحافظة على المواد. يجب على المسلمين الاهتمام من جديد بهذا الأمر لأنه جزء من إيمانهم، وعلينا التركيز على هذا الجانب في حياتنا لإنقاذ أنفسنا وكوكبنا ولنمارس ديننا بطريقة صحيحة”.
ولفت إلى أهمية سلسلة محادثات الأرض للتعلم من الماضي والاستفادة منه في المستقبل، وأضاف: “أشعر بالسعادة لوجودي هنا في متاحف مشيرب في قطر لتبادل الأفكار والرؤى وأنا على ثقة بأن هذه الحوارات ستساعدنا على نشر الرسائل الإيجابية إلى المجتمع”.
عقدت سلسلة محادثات الأرض في السابق في مكتبة قطر الوطنية ومؤسسة قطر. وتستقطب المحادثات طيفا واسعا من أفراد المجتمع والمثقفين والمفكرين والمهتمين بقضايا البيئة والاستدامة. وتأتي المحادثات ضمن التزام مشيرب قلب الدوحة ومتاحف مشيرب بنشر ثقافة الاستدامة والتوعية بها وتعزيز الحوار حول القضايا البيئة والتغير المناخي والعمل على تقديم الحلول المناسبة لهذه التحديات.
تنظم سلسلة محادثات الأرض من قبل حركة الشباب العربي للمناخ في قطر ومتاحف مشيرب. وتضم الجلسات متحدثين بارزين من مختلف أرجاء العالم وقادة رأي ومفكرين وصناع قرار وتدفع إلى إطلاق المناقشات حول التغيرات والتحولات التي تشهدها مجتمعاتنا في سبيل تحقيق مستقبل مستدام.
