Qatar Museums Invites Artists to Submit Proposals for Public Art Open Calls

Doha: Qatar Museums is inviting all emerging and established artists based in Qatar to submit their proposals for its annual public art open calls. As part of Qatar Museums’ ongoing commitment to support local talent and promote public art, these annual open calls bring together local artists who not only propose public artworks that will leave a legacy, but they also transform the city, making it come further alive through their art.

Director of Public Art at Qatar Museums Abdulrahman Al Ishaq said: “The purpose of our annual open calls is to create awareness around public art and consciously support local talent by creating a venue for them to express themselves through proposing and creating public artworks. This also paves a way for eligible artists to become part of Qatar’s story and history by immersing themselves in the nation’s cultural and artistic scene through their artworks.” Eligible artists in Qatar are invited to apply to one or more of the following of Qatar Museums’ public art open calls.

The JEDARIART programme brings artists together to add vibrancy and meaning to Doha’s city walls through murals and street art. The aim of the programme is to activate urban areas and promote artistic intervention in designated districts creating new reference points for people to go and visit across the city. The applicants must submit the actual proposal/sketch/design for a mural and not only their previous work, as it will be considered as a reference. It is also part of Qatar Museums’ ongoing commitment to support local talent and promote public art.

The Public Art Student Initiative invites university students and alumni to propose a temporary or permanent public artwork. Students and alumni are encouraged to think about the conversations their artwork will inspire, and they can submit this proposal as individuals or groups. The selected artist will be commissioned to create their proposal with the support of Qatar Museums’ Public Art department.

The 5/6 Initiative Open call encourages artists to propose a public artwork that speaks to everyone living in the GCC. The 5/6 Initiative marks an important event in Qatari history, while also sparking a remarkable sense of community. For this year’s 5/6 Initiative, artists are encouraged to propose projects that explores intangible commonalities in our diverse societies. Successful applicants will receive a commission contract to execute their proposed public artwork.

The Public Art Annual Intervention Open Call encourages artists to propose ideas for a public artwork that improves urban life. This type of Public Art is referred to as placemaking, as it directly serves the people in the community. Successful applicants will receive a commission contract to execute the proposed public artwork. The deadline to receive proposals is Tuesday, 30 May 2023, and is open to all of Qatar’s residents.

الدوحة: دعت متاحف قطر جميع الفنانين الناشئين والمعروفين المقيمين في قطر لتقديم مقترحاتهم وأفكارهم من خلال دعواتها السنوية المفتوحة لتعزيز أعمال الفن العام والتي تترك إرثا فنيا، وتعمل على تغيير وجه المدينة، مما يجعلها تنبض بالحياة من خلال فنهم وذلك في إطار التزام متاحف قطر المستمر بدعم المواهب المحلية والترويج للفن العام.

وقال المهندس عبد الرحمن ال إسحاق، مدير إدارة الفن العام في متاحف قطر في بيان اليوم إن الغرض من الدعوات المفتوحة السنوية هو خلق الوعي حول الفن العام ومواصلة دعم المواهب المحلية من خلال خلق فضاء لهم للتعبير عن أنفسهم عبر اقتراح وإنشاء أعمال فنية عامة، مما يمهد الطريق للفنانين المؤهلين ليصبحوا جزءا من قصة قطر وتاريخها من خلال انخراطهم في المشهد الثقافي والفني للبلد عبر أعمالهم الفنية.

وأعلنت متاحف قطر أنه يحق للفنانين التقدم بأفكارهم في إحدى مبادرات الفن العام أو أكثر والتي تشمل ( جداري آرت – مبادرة الطلاب للفن العام – مبادرة 5/6 لعام 2024 – مبادرة الفن العام السنوية للتدخل الفني) .

ويجمع برنامج جداري آرت الفنانين معا لإضفاء الحيوية والمعنى إلى جدران الدوحة من خلال تزيينها بالجداريات وفن الشارع، حيث يهدف البرنامج إلى تنشيط المناطق الحضرية وتعزيز التدخل الفني في المناطق المختارة، لإنشاء نقاط جديدة يمكن للناس زيارتها في أرجاء المدينة، وعلى المتقدمين لهذا البرنامج تقديم مقترح/ رسم التخطيطي/ تصميم فعلي لجدارية وليس عملهم السابق فحسب، حيث سيتم اعتباره كمرجع ويكون التقدم لهذا البرنامج عبر الرابط : https://qm.org.qa/ar/calendar/jedariart-open-call/.

أما مبادرة الطلاب فهي دعوة لطلاب الجامعات والخريجين إلى تقديم اقتراح لأحد أعمال الفن العام الدائمة أو الموقتة عبر الرابط https://qm.org.qa/ar/calendar/student-initiative/ ، حتى الخميس 20 ابريل الجاري والمشاركة مفتوحة للقطريين والمقيمين .

وبشأن مبادرة 5/6 لعام 2024 فالدعوة مفتوحة للفنانين لتقديم عمل فني عام موجه لكل من يعيش في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي، وتعمل أيضا على بث روح التضامن في المجتمع. وسيتوصل التقدم لهذه المبادرة حتى الأحد 30 ابريل الجاري عبر الرابط التالي https://qm.org.qa/ar/calendar/56-initiative/ علما بأن المشاركة مفتوحة لجميع سكان دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي.

وبخصوص مبادرة الفن العام السنوية للتدخل الفني، فهي دعوة للفنانين لاقتراح عمل فني عام يساهم في تحسين جودة الحياة في المدن ، حيث يعرف هذا النوع من الفن العام باسم “صناعة المكان”، وهو يساهم في خدمة أفراد المجتمع بشكل مباشر وتقبل الأفكار في هذه المبادرة حتى 30 مايو المقبل والمشاركة متاحة لجميع الفنانين من المواطنين والمقيمين عبر الرابط : https://qm.org.qa/ar/calendar/annual-intervention/.
