Qatar University Launches Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest 2023

Doha: Qatar University (QU) College of Business and Economics (CBE) and College of Engineering (CENG) in collaboration with the Office of Strategic Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Economic Development Office (SIEED) launched the annual “Innovation & Entrepreneurship Contest 2023”.

This year’s contest is distinguished by its focus on creating business ideas and innovations that directly benefit the Qatari economy and help in building a knowledge-based economy. This year’s participating teams will have access to a training program provided by experts on how to prepare and present effective business models and pitching the essence of their business ideas. Ideas will be presented to a panel of judges.
In addition to monetary prizes, winners will get the chance to have their ideas developed further in the SIEED’s incubator through vigorous coaching and training, enabling them to develop their business plans, and possibly get funding opportunities and access to the local business community.

Dean of CENG Dr. Khalid Kamal Naji, said: “The contest is designed to spread awareness about the importance of entrepreneurial activities, trigger the entrepreneurial skills of QU students and engage them on how to develop sound business plans. When they graduate, our students will enter a highly competitive business environment in Qatar. They have to acquire the skills and competencies to become the next leaders in the world of business. In this regard, CENG is committed to providing its students with a forum to develop their creative and innovative business ideas which will add value to their education.” Dean of CBE Prof. Rana Sobh stressed the importance of innovative ideas to develop a sound business sector and ultimately contribute to the country’s development and progress. She said: “Through this annual competition, we are inviting our students to invest their talents in the spirit of competition, shared knowledge and teamwork. The business ideas should be feasible, realistic and preferably serve to meet the needs of the job market and the private sector in Qatar.

We look forward to embracing the innovative projects that will emerge.” Head of Research & Policy at the CEOE Dr. Boumediene Ramdani said, “Ideas will be subject to evaluation from academic and industry experts that will share their experiences with our students and assess the ideas based on their desirability in the market (33 percent), their viability chances of success (33 percent), and feasibility chances of making it happen (33 percent).” In his speech, Director of SIEED, Dr. Mahmoud Abdulwahed said, “We encourage all students to participate in this competition to develop their entrepreneurial skills and benefit from the workshops that will take place within the competition, to ensure that their ideas and projects are new, innovative and competitive.”

الدوحة: أطلقت جامعة قطر مسابقة الابتكار وريادة الأعمال في دورتها العاشرة للعام الأكاديمي 2023، وذلك تحت عنوان “نحو مشاريع وطنية مبتكرة”، لحث الطلبة على مشاريع واعدة لتكوين شركات صغيرة ومتوسطة.

وتتميز المسابقة هذا العام والتي تشرف عليها كليتا الهندسة، والإدارة والاقتصاد، بالتعاون مع مكتب الابتكار الاستراتيجي والريادة والتنمية الاقتصادية بالجامعة بانفتاحها على الطلبة من كافة التخصصات وتشجيعهم على ابتكار مشاريع من شأنها المساهمة بتطوير الاقتصاد المحلي والمعرفي بالدولة وخدمة المجتمع.

وقال الدكتور خالد كمال ناجي عميد كلية الهندسة، إن هذه المسابقة تأتي انطلاقا من استراتيجيتنا في ظل رؤية قطر 2030 فيما يخص التنمية الاقتصادية والتنمية البشرية، “فالأفكار المبتكرة والريادة في الأعمال تطلق آفاقا جديدة للعمل والإنتاج وتدعم النمو الاقتصادي للدولة”.

وأضاف أن المسابقة تسعى لدعم الابتكار ورواد الأعمال في الجامعة وتوفير كل الاحتياجات التي تلزمهم، مشيرا في هذا السياق إلى أنه سيتم تنظيم عدد من ورش العمل بهدف إعطاء الفرصة للمشاركين لمعرفة تفاصيل أكثر عن قواعد المسابقة ومراحلها، والتوقيتات الزمنية الخاصة بها، والبرامج التدريبية والجوائز.

ودعا الدكتور ناجي جميع طلبة جامعة قطر للمشاركة في المسابقة وإثبات قدراتهم، تمهيدا لإعدادهم لسوق العمل وافتتاح مشاريعهم الخاصة بهم، ودخول عالم المنافسة والتميز والابتكار في سوق العمل القطري التي تشهد تطورا مذهلا على مختلف المستويات.

بدورها، رحبت الدكتورة رنا صبح عميدة كلية الإدارة والاقتصاد بفكرة المسابقة، وتمنت أن تكون هناك مشاركة واسعة لأعداد كبيرة من الطلبة في المسابقة، لتقديم مشاريع ذات أفكار إبداعية وفريدة من نوعها ولها إضافة نوعية للمجتمع، وغير مكررة.

وأضافت أنه تم إعداد المسابقة لتحفيز المواهب الطلابية وتشجيعهم على التطوير والابتكار لكي يتمكنوا من القيام بالمبادرات ودخول قطاع الأعمال، والمساهمة في توعية الطلاب ونشر ثقافة ريادة الأعمال بينهم.

من جانبه، قال الدكتور محمود عبدالواحد مدير مكتب الابتكار الاستراتيجي والريادة والتنمية الاقتصادية بجامعة قطر، إن المسابقة مطروحة لجميع طلبة جامعة قطر، مضيفا “أتمنى من جميع الطلبة المشاركة وإثبات قدراتهم، تمهيدا لإعدادهم لسوق العمل الذي يشهد تطورا باهرا، وافتتاح مشاريعهم الخاصة بهم، ودخول عالم المنافسة والتميز والابتكار”.

وأعلن المنظمون عن بدء التسجيل في المسابقة من خلال موقعها على شبكة الإنترنت، وشددوا على حضور الفرق المشاركة الورش التدريبية، مبينين أن كل فريق يتكون بحد أقصى من 5 مشاركين، بالإضافة لتقديم خطة عمل كاملة للمشروع.

ووفقا للوائح المنظمة للمسابقة، سيتم فرز المشاريع والفرق الفائزة وتأهيل عشرة فقط للتصفيات النهائية لعرض مشاريعهم أمام لجنة التحكيم، فيما سيقوم فريق عمل المسابقة بعقد جلسات تدريبية تسبق المناقشات النهائية تحت إشراف لجنة خبراء مختصين.

وفي نهاية المسابقة، يحصل الفائزون على جوائز مالية، كما ستتمكن الفرق الفائزة من الحصول على توجيه وتدريب من مكتب الابتكار الاستراتيجي والريادة والتنمية الاقتصادية بجامعة قطر ليكونوا أكثر قدرة على إعداد خطط العمل، والحصول على التمويل اللازم للمشروع، ومنافذ السوق.
