QU Reiterates Commitment to Environment Conservation, Sustainability
جامعة قطر تؤكد التزامها بتعزيز الحفاظ على البيئة واستدامتها

Doha: Qatar University (QU) held on Sunday a ceremony to mark Qatar Environment Day (QED), which observed on Feb.26 every year, in presence of HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al-Thani and HE President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan Al Derham.
HE Dr. Al Derham said that marking QED this year is part of the University’s commitment to promote environment conservation and sustainability, pointing that all societal categories are concerned with the environment.
His Excellency noted that the outputs of all the environmental research presented by Qatar University were serving the environment as one of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030.
HE President of Qatar University extended thanks to Oryx Company -the ceremony sponsors- and to all the parties that participated in it; the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Ministry of Municipality, in addition to schools and institutions that joined the university on the occasion.
For his part, Dean of QU’s College of Arts and Sciences Prof. Ahmed Elzatahry said that Qatar University sees the QED as a national occasion, especially as it reflects the State of Qatar’s keen attention to the conservation of the environment and nature.
From this viewpoint, the Biological and Environmental Sciences department took part in the celebration by organizing contests and awareness lectures, in addition to researches and efforts of the faculty and students in the graduate studies section, he added Meanwhile, Head of Biological and Environmental Sciences department Dr. Fatima Al Khayat said that environment is the framework in which a person lives, and it contains all the material elements in which a person finds the requirements for their living. The various environmental factors affect people and also get affected by them, she added.
Dr. Al Khayat voiced the keenness of the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences to mark QED every year by organizing various events that reflect the university’s attention to the environment and raise awareness among students.
The Ceremony included activities related to the children’s environment with the participation of the Early Childhood Center and a workshop for school students on waste reuse, presented by the Visual Arts Center, in addition a number of performances and workshops that came in line with the theme of the Qatar Environment Day.

الدوحة: نظمت جامعة قطر حفلا بمناسبة يوم البيئة القطري الذي يصادف يوم 26 فبراير من كل عام، بحضور سعادة الشيخ الدكتور فالح بن ناصر بن أحمد بن علي آل ثاني وزير البيئة والتغير المناخي، وسعادة الدكتور حسن الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر.
وأكد سعادة الدكتور حسن الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر أن هذا الاحتفال يعد جزءاً من التزام الجامعة بتعزيز الحفاظ على البيئة واستدامتها لصالح المجتمع، مشيراً إلى أن جميع الفئات المجتمعية معنية بالبيئة التي نعيش فيها.
ونوه الدرهم بأن جميع الأبحاث العلمية والبيئية التي قدمتها جامعة قطر لصالح البيئة، كانت تصب مخرجاتها في خدمة البيئة كإحدى الركائز الأربع لرؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 معرباً عن شكره لجميع الجهات المشاركة بهذا الحفل، في مقدمتها شركة أوريكس التي رعت الحفل، إضافة إلى وزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي، ووزارة البلدية والمدارس والمؤسسات التي شاركت الجامعة في هذا الحفل السنوي الهام.
وبدوره، قال الدكتور أحمد الزتحري عميد كلية الآداب والعلوم بجامعة قطر: إن دولة قطر تحتفل يوم 26 فبراير من كل عام بيوم البيئة القطري، الذي يعد بمثابة مناسبة وطنية نعتز بها في جامعة قطر، ولا سيما بأنها تعكس مدى اهتمام الدولة ومؤسساتها المختلفة بسلامة البيئة والطبيعة.
وشدد على أهمية العناية بالبيئة التي نعيش فيها، مشيرا إلى ما تقدمه جامعة قطر من برامج دراسية وبحوث علمية بيئية موجهة للبيئة القطرية في كافة جوانبها، لتشكل أهم الروافد لخدمة وصون البيئة.
وتابع قائلا : من هذا المنطلق جاءت مشاركة قسم العلوم البيولوجية والبيئية من خلال فعالياته المتنوعة من مسابقات للطلبة ومحاضرات توعوية، إضافة لما يقوم به أساتذة وطلبة الدراسات العليا في القسم من أبحاث في مختلف الجوانب البيئية.
وبدورها، نوهت الدكتورة فاطمة الخياط رئيس قسم العلوم البيولوجية والبيئية، بأن البيئة تشكل إطارًا يعيش فيه الإنسان من خلال التربة والماء والهواء، مع احتوائها على كامل العناصر المادية التي يستنبط منها الإنسان متطلبات عيشه وعواملها المختلفة التي تؤثر عليه ويؤثر فيها.
وأكدت على حرص قسم العلوم البيولوجية والبيئية بالاحتفال سنوياً بهذه المناسبة من خلال تنظيم فعاليات متنوعة تعكس اهتمام الجامعة بالبيئة وتشجيع طلابها وأعضاء الهيئة التدريسية على ممارستها ورفع الوعي عند الطلبة، مضيفة أن القسم يقدم برامج في علوم البيئة تمتد من مرحلة البكالوريوس وحتى الدكتوراه.
جدير بالذكر أن الاحتفال تضمن أنشطة متعلقة ببيئة الأطفال بمشاركة مركز الطفولة المبكرة وورشة عمل موجهة لطلاب المدارس حول إعادة استخدام النفايات، قدمها مركز الفنون البصرية، إضافة إلى تنظيم عدد من العروض وورش العمل التي جاءت بشكل يتناسب مع موضوع يوم البيئة الوطني.
