Doha: HE Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker confirmed that the selection of Doha as Arab Tourism Capital for 2023 recently by the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism represents a recognition that Doha is a truly remarkable city offering a spectacular tourism experience for all international travelers.
In a press statement by Qatar Tourism, HE Al Baker said that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament has allowed many to directly experience Qatar’s warm hospitality and authentic culture and heritage, adding that there is more in store, as Qatar looks ahead to an exciting calendar of events in 2023, and further attractions and leisure destinations opening across the country in the new year.
The statement pointed out that cities were evaluated based on a selection of criteria, including tourism management, infrastructure and resources, safety and security, diversity of tourism activations, conservation and protection of the environment.
In the lead up to the global sporting event, Qatar has seen a rapid expansion of its tourism landscape, with the recent opening of West Bay Beach, Al Maha Island and Lusail Boulevard marking a few of the latest attractions in the country.
By 2030, Qatar Tourism’s strategy aims to attract six million visitors annually, focusing on 15 priority markets and identifying distinct opportunities from point to point and stopover travel.
In the 25th session at the Arab League General Secretariat Headquarters that was recently convened in Cairo, Egypt, the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism decided to select Doha as Arab Tourism Capital for 2023.

الدوحة: أكد سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، رئيس /قطر للسياحة/ والرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية، أن اختيار الدوحة عاصمة للسياحة العربية للعام 2023 من قبل المجلس الوزاري العربي للسياحة مؤخرا يشكل اعترافا بأنها مدينة رائعة ورائدة، تقدم تجربة سياحية مذهلة لجميع المسافرين الدوليين.
وقال سعادته في بيان صحفي لـ /قطر للسياحة/: “إن بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 أتاحت للكثيرين تجربة ضيافة قطر وثقافتها وتراثها الأصيل”.
وأضاف: “هذا ليس كل شيء، حيث تنتظرنا روزنامة فعاليات منوعة ومميزة مليئة بالأحداث في العام المقبل، بالإضافة إلى افتتاح المزيد من مناطق الجذب والوجهات الترفيهية في جميع أنحاء البلاد خلال العام الجديد”.
ولفت البيان إلى أن تقييم المدن قد تم بناء على مجموعة مختارة من المعايير، بما في ذلك إدارة السياحة، والبنية التحتية والموارد، والسلامة والأمن، وتنوع الأنشطة السياحية، بالإضافة إلى الحفاظ على البيئة وحمايتها.
وشهدت قطر في الفترة التي سبقت كأس العالم، توسعا سريعا في المشهد السياحي، حيث كان افتتاح شاطئ الخليج الغربي وجزيرة المها ودرب لوسيل مؤخرا من أحدث مناطق الجذب في البلاد.
وتهدف استراتيجية /قطر للسياحة/ إلى جذب ستة ملايين زائر سنويا بحلول عام 2030، مع التركيز على 15 بلدا ذات أولوية، وتحديد الفرص المتميزة، سواء كان ذلك عن طريق سفر السائحين من دولهم إلى قطر، أو من خلال التوقف في قطر عند السفر إلى وجهات أخرى.
الجدير بالذكر أن المجلس الوزاري العربي للسياحة قرر في دورته (25)، التي انعقدت مؤخرا، بمقر الأمانة العامة لجامعة الدول العربية، في العاصمة المصرية، القاهرة، اختيار الدوحة عاصمة للسياحة العربية للعام 2023.
