‘Qatar has Strengthened Civilized and Cultural Communication between Peoples’
‘قطر عززت التواصل الحضاري والثقافي بين الشعوب’

Doha: HE Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong, praised the efforts of the State of Qatar in promoting cultural and civilizational communication between different peoples as an expression of brotherhood and peace, noting the opportunity it provided to all humanity in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 with distinction and competence.
In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency said that he visited the State of Qatar years ago, and witnessed the construction and building works, and today he sees everything already on the ground, expressing his pride in the various achievements made at all levels.
HE Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union expressed his happiness at following up some of the events and activities that accompanied the World Cup, expressing his gratitude to the Qatari people for the warm welcome, good reception, and generous hospitality felt by the various visitors to the World Cup.
On the other hand, His Excellency stressed the strength of the relationship between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Shura Council, indicating that the State of Qatar has a major role within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and had hosted the opening of the 140th General Assembly in 2019, as this conference recorded the attendance of the largest number of members in the history of IPU.
His Excellency praised the Qatari support for many of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s initiatives and activities, especially in the areas of sustainable development, international peace and security, encouraging young parliamentarians to carry out their tasks, and encouraging women to participate in politics.
HE the IPU Secretary-General pointed to the importance of the role played by the Arab Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (AASGP), which is chaired by the State of Qatar, indicating that a memorandum of understanding was signed with initials with the aim of cooperation, coordination and direct communication between the Association and the Union, and now IPU is seeking to achieve the terms of the memorandum on the ground, in order to integrate many projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the presence of the Association within the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Concluding his statement to (QNA), His Excellency appreciated the belief of the Qatari parliamentarians in the importance of cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and moving forward in developing this relationship, expressing his appreciation for the Shura Council’s invitation to attend part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 activities.

وقال سعادته، في تصريح خاص لوكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/: “زرت دولة قطر قبل سنوات، وشاهدت أعمال التشييد والبناء، واليوم أرى كل شيء موجودا بالفعل على أرض الواقع”، معرباً عن فخره بمختلف الإنجازات التي تحققت على المستويات كافة.
وعبر الأمين العام للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، عن سعادته بمتابعة بعض الفعاليات والأنشطة التي رافقت المونديال، معرباً عن امتنانه للشعب القطري على حفاوة الترحيب، وحسن الاستقبال، وكرم الضيافة، التي شعر بها مختلف زوار المونديال.
من جهة أخرى، أكد سعادة السيد مارتن تشونغونغ قوة العلاقة بين الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي ومجلس الشورى، مبينا أن دولة قطر لها دور كبير داخل الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، وكانت قد استضافت افتتاح الجمعية العامة الـ 140 للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي في عام 2019، حيث سجل هذا المؤتمر حضور أكبر عدد من الأعضاء في تاريخ الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي.
وأشاد سعادته بالدعم القطري للعديد من مبادرات الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي وأنشطته، خاصة في مجالات التنمية المستدامة والسلم والأمن الدوليين، وتشجيع البرلمانيين الشباب للقيام بمهامهم، وتشجيع المرأة على المشاركة السياسية.
وأشار سعادة الأمين العام للاتحاد الدولي إلى أهمية الدور الذي تقوم به جمعية الأمناء العامين للبرلمانات العربية، والتي تترأسها دولة قطر، مبيناً أنه جرى توقيع مذكرة تفاهم بالأحرف الأولى بهدف التعاون والتنسيق والتواصل المباشر بين الجمعية والاتحاد، ونسعى الآن لتحقيق بنود المذكرة على أرض الواقع، وصولاً لدمج العديد من المشروعات والمبادرات التي تستهدف تعزيز وجود الجمعية داخل الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي.
وثمن سعادته، في ختام تصريحه لـ /قنا/، إيمان البرلمانيين القطريين بأهمية التعاون مع الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، والمضي قدماً في تطوير هذه العلاقة، معرباً عن تقديره لدعوة مجلس الشورى لحضور جانب من فعاليات بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022.
