Qatar to Host One of Six F1 Sprint Events in 2023

Doha: Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) announced that Qatar will be hosting one of the six F1 sprint events set to take place in 2023s season of the championship, with the 5 remaining sprint qualifying races taking place in Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, the United States and Brazil.

In 2021, F1 decided to shake up tradition by adding sprint races to its arsenal, and the idea was quite simple: “overtakes are the most exciting part of F1 races, so lets add shorter races at one-third of the distance of the Grand Prix with no pit stops, this way we introduce a more action-packed event where everyone wins.” Starting off with 3 sessions in 2021, the format proved to be a big success, and so for the upcoming season in 2023, F1 decided to double the number of sprint races that are included in the event. The format simply works, as in 2022, the Austrian sprint event had a 39% increase in audience compared with qualifying at the same race the year before.

Due to the compact nature of the sprint-racing format as a 100km qualifying dash with no mandatory pit stops and drivers racing flat-out to the chequered flag to claim a leading position in the upcoming days round, Lusail International Circuit counts as an ideal venue to host the event, and as such, after a long and thorough analysis of worldwide options, the F1, after coordinating efforts with Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), chose the track as one of six to host the sprint events scheduled for 2023s F1 season, alongside Azerbaijans Baku City Circuit, Austrias Red Bull Ring, Belgiums Spa-Francorchamps, USs Circuit of The Americas, and Sao Paulos Interlagos.

The F1 racing extravaganza will be coming to Lusail Circuit in Qatar from Oct. 6 to 8, with the exhilarating sprint race qualifier taking place for the first time under the iconic floodlights of Lusail Circuit Sports Club on the 7th, and the standard F1 format that everyones familiar with landing on the 8th, offering racing fans worldwide a wide variety of options to satisfy their Need for Speed.

The selection of Qatar as one of the countries to host this new exciting F1 racing format event counts as a major step forward towards the achievement of the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims to position the country as a global hub for world class sporting events, and to bring people closer together through sustainable sports development and by leveraging the passion shared for sports of all kinds worldwide.

الدوحة: أعلن الاتحاد القطري للسيارات والدراجات النارية عن استضافة قطر لواحد من سباقات السرعة الستة في الفورمولا-1 المقرر إقامتها خلال الموسم المقبل في مواقع مختلفة حول العالم.

واستحدث منظمو بطولة العالم لسباقات الفورمولا-1، سباق السرعة المعروف أيضا باسم سباق سبرينت /F1 Sprint/ في عام 2021، وذلك بهدف منح عشاق الرياضة قدرا أكبر من الحماس والتسلية على مدار ثلاثة أيام في عطلة نهاية الأسبوع، حيث تنطلق السباقات مع إجراء تصفيات عادية يوم الجمعة لتحديد ترتيب البداية للسباق القصير على مسافة 100 كيلومتر يوم السبت، والذي يحدد بدوره أول المنطلقين في سباق الجائزة الكبرى يوم الأحد.

وأعلنت فورمولا-1 رسميا عن القائمة المنتظرة لاستضافة الجولات الست التي ستقام وفق صيغة السباقات القصيرة في العام المقبل، حيث تم التأكيد على اختيار دولة قطر لتكون من بين الدول التي ستستضيف هذه السباقات، حيث تم اختيار المواقع الستة بعد تقييم أجراه منظمو البطولة للحلبات التي تتوفر فيها أفضل فرص للتجاوز ومجالات تعزز السرعة القصوى.

وستوفر حلبة لوسيل الدولية خلال استضافة فعاليات جائزة قطر الكبرى للفورمولا-1 في الفترة ما بين السادس والثامن من أكتوبر 2023، فرصة فريدة لعشاق هذه الرياضة في مختلف أنحاء المنطقة للاستمتاع بالصيغة الجديدة لسباقات فورمولا-1 التي تقام لأول مرة في المنطقة، حيث ستستمتع الجماهير بأجواء حماسية مميزة وبتجربة فريدة في عالم سباقات الفورمولا-1 تحت الأضواء الكاشفة للحلبة.

ويعتبر اختيار قطر لاستضافة هذه النوعية الجديدة من سباقات الفورمولا-1، إضافة جديدة وقيمة إلى الفعاليات الرياضية الدولية التي تفخر قطر باستضافتها على أرضها والتي تندرج في إطار رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 التي تهدف إلى الارتقاء بدولة قطر لتحتل مكانة رائدة عالمياً في المجال الرياضي.

وستقام الجولات الخمس الأخرى من سباقات السرعة الستة في الفورمولا-1 في كل من أذربيجان والنمسا وبلجيكا وأمريكا والبرازيل.

وقام منظمو بطولة العالم لسباقات الفورمولا-1، باختبار تنسيق سباق السرعة الجديد ثلاث مرات في عام 2021 وثلاث مرات في عام 2022، واستجابة لردود الفعل الإيجابية والإقبال الكبير الذي شهدته سباقات السرعة تمت مضاعفة عدد هذه السباقات من ثلاثة سباقات إلى ستة سباقات في الموسم المقبل.

وخلال سباق السرعة الذي استضافته هذا الموسم، شهدت حلبة النمسا زيادة بنسبة 39% في عدد الجماهير بالمقارنة مع العام السابق، ما يعكس النجاح الذي تحققه هذه السباقات في استقطاب أعداد مضاعفة من عشاق هذه الرياضة.
