Empower 2022 Youth Conference Kicks Off

Doha: The Education Above All (EAA) Foundations Empower Youth Conference (Empower 2022) kicked off on Wednesday in the heart of the World Cup celebrations at the FIFA Fan Festival with inspiring stories about the role of football off the pitch from top athletes.

The theme for this years renowned youth leadership conference, Football for Sustainable Development, will look at harnessing footballs ability to create unity and integration in communities as well as act as a positive social catalyst for change.

The opening ceremony was attended by HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, HE Minister of Sports and Youth Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, and a group of Their Excellencies heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to the State.

The ceremony featured former Afghan refugee, turned professional soccer player, Nadia Nadim; Honey Thaljieh, first captain of the Palestinian womens national football team; and Nasser Al Khori, Executive Director of the World Cup legacy program, Generation Amazing Foundation (GA), who all spoke about the role of football in improving lives beyond the pitch.

“Chasing Dreams”, a documentary about young Syrian refugees now playing semi-professional football in Brazil also featured in the opening along with a discussion with the films producer and four of the young men featured in the film.

EAAs Program Director for Reach Out to Asia (ROTA), Abdullah Al Abdulla said: “The World Cup provides an amazing opportunity to develop leadership skills for youth which is at the heart of Education Above Alls advocacy. Ensuring youth are empowered to handle adversity will help us build a more sustainable and peaceful communities.” Generation Amazing Foundation Executive Director, Nasser Al Khori, said: “Generation Amazing Foundation utilizes the power of football to impart crucial life skills including communication, leadership, teamwork and compassion?to youth and communities in need across the globe with the goal of advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Qatar’s National Vision 2030. This years Empower conference is one more way GA boosts those efforts and ensures furthering a positive social legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 that lives beyond the tournament and impact lives for years to come.” Started in 2009, “Empower” is the first youth led conference to focus on equipping young people in Qatar and around the world to take active roles in building their communities and having a voice on global issues. It is a chance for youth between ages 15 and 24 to take part in experiential learning and cross-cultural exchange of ideas, discover a sense of belonging to a common humanity, shared values, and responsibilities.

This years three-day conference for youth will explore the impact of football through a plethora of diverse speakers, panel discussions, and workshops online between December 7-9 for attendees.

Empower runs as part of EAAs Scoring 4 the Goals Campaign, which aims to raise awareness and call for action to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the global agenda to bring a more prosperous and equitable future for all.

الدوحة: انطلقت مساء الأمس فعاليات مؤتمر تمكين الشباب “إمباور 2022” الذي ينظمه برنامج “روتا”، التابع لمؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع بشكل مدمج بين الحضور الفعلي وعبر الاتصال المرئي، تحت عنوان “دور كرة القدم من أجل التنمية المستدامة”، ويستمر ثلاثة أيام في مهرجان فيفا للمشجعين بحديقة البدع.

حضر افتتاح المؤتمر سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني رئيس مجلس أمناء متاحف قطر، وسعادة السيد صلاح بن غانم العلي وزير الرياضة والشباب، وسعادة الدكتورة حمدة بنت حسن السليطي نائب رئيس مجلس الشورى، وعدد من أصحاب السعادة رؤساء البعثات الدبلوماسية المعتمدين لدى الدولة.

ويتناول المؤتمر الذي يقوده الشباب، ويتزامن مع احتفالات بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 قصصا ملهمة عن دور كرة القدم خارج الملعب من قبل كبار الرياضيين، وسينظر في تسخير كرة القدم في تحقيق الوحدة والاندماج في المجتمعات، بالإضافة إلى العمل كمحفز اجتماعي إيجابي للتغيير، كما يستكشف المؤتمر تأثير كرة القدم في المجتمعات من خلال عدد كبير من المتحدثين المتنوعين، وحلقات النقاش، وورش العمل الحضورية، وعبر الإنترنت.

وخلال الجلسة الافتتاحية تحدث عدد من المشاركين الشباب، منهم نادية نديم اللاجئة الأفغانية السابقة التي أصبحت لاعبة كرة قدم محترفة وناقدة رياضية، واللاعبة هني ثلجية، المؤسس المشارك وقائد فريق كرة القدم النسائي الفلسطيني، وناصر الخوري، المدير التنفيذي لبرنامج الإرث الإنساني والاجتماعي لكأس العالم بمؤسسة الجيل المبهر، عن دور كرة القدم في تحسين الحياة خارج الملعب، وتجاربهم الشخصية في مواجهة التحديات والصعوبات التي اعترضتهم أثناء مشوارهم المهني، كما عرض في الافتتاح الفيلم الوثائقي “مطاردة الأحلام”، والذي تدور أحداثه حول مجموعة من اللاجئين الشباب السوريين الذين يلعبون الآن كرة القدم بصورة شبه احترافية في البرازيل، بالإضافة إلى حلقة نقاش مع منتج العمل وأربعة من الشباب الذين ظهروا في الفيلم.

وفي هذا الصدد، أكد السيد عبدالله العبدالله، المدير التنفيذي لبرنامج “روتا” أن بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 توفر فرصة رائعة لتطوير المهارات القيادية للشباب، وهو ما يقع في صميم جهود مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع، مشيرا إلى أن تمكين الشباب من التعامل مع الصعوبات التي يواجهونها يساعدهم في بناء مجتمعات أكثر استدامة وسلاما.

من جانبه، قال السيد ناصر الخوري، المدير التنفيذي لمؤسسة الجيل المبهر إن المؤسسة توظف قوة كرة القدم لنقل المهارات الحياتية الأساسية، بما في ذلك التواصل والقيادة والعمل الجماعي والتعاطف مع الشباب والمجتمعات المحتاجة في جميع أنحاء العالم، بهدف تعزيز أهداف الأمم المتحدة للتنمية المستدامة ورؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، لافتا إلى أن المؤتمر الشبابي “إمباور” هذا العام يعد وسيلة أخرى لتعزز تلك الجهود، وضمان الإرث الاجتماعي الإيجابي لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، والذي سيستمر إلى ما بعد البطولة ويؤثر على الحياة لسنوات قادمة.

بدأ مؤتمر تمكين الشباب “إمباور” في عام 2009، وهو أول مؤتمر يقوده الشباب، ويركز على تجهيز الشباب في قطر وحول العالم لأداء أدوار نشطة في بناء مجتمعاتهم، وأن يكون لهم صوت في القضايا العالمية، وهي فرصة للشباب الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 15 و 24 عاماً للمشاركة في التعلم التجريبي وتبادل الأفكار بين الثقافات، واكتشاف الشعور بالانتماء إلى الإنسانية، والقيم والمسؤوليات المشتركة.

ويعمل مؤتمر “إمباور” جزءا من حملة “تسجيل الأهداف” التي تنظمها مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع، والتي تهدف إلى زيادة الوعي، والدعوة إلى العمل لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة للأمم المتحدة، وهي الأجندة العالمية لتحقيق مستقبل أكثر ازدهارا وإنصافا للجميع.
