Inauguration of Intaj Exhibition Traces Qatar’s History in TV, Theater and Film

Doha: The Doha Film Institute today opened a fascinating multimedia exhibition, Intaj, that traces Qatars film, television, and theatres remarkable history to run from November 8, 2022 to January 22, 2023, at Sikkat Wadi Msheireb as part of the Doha Film Experience activities, in conjunction with Qatar’s organization of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Notable guests in attendance at the opening included HE Chairperson of Doha Film Institute (DFI) Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE CEO of Qatar Media Corporation Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Thani Al-Thani, HE State Minister and President of Qatar National Library Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, HE Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Hassan Al Thawadi, and several senior figures and officials.

Intaj, curated by Sheikh Khalifa Abdulla Al-Thani, is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Msheireb Properties and Qatar Museums, with the Qatar Media Corporation as Media Partner.

Chief Executive Office of the Doha Film Institute Fatma Hassan Alremaihi said: “Intaj is a shining tribute to our nations heritage and legacy in theatre, television and cinema, each with its own unique niche that has contributed to Qatars global position as a center of cultural excellence. Together with various other artforms, they are the beating heart of our nations rich identity, which we proudly share with the world during the Doha Film Experience and beyond. Intaj will showcase exceptionally talented multidisciplinary artists that highlight our nation not only as a world class destination for sports, but for creative inspiration as well.” The opening gallery at Intaj, Taking Centre Stage, highlights the dramatic rise of theatre in the country. From its humble beginnings in schools and social clubs, the contemporary theatre scene gained traction with the founding of the Qatar Theatrical Troupe in 1972, and the Al Sadd Theatrical Troupe a year later.

As the art form progressed and gained popularity, two additional troupes were formed the Lights Theatrical Troupe and Folk Theatrical Troupe.

In 1994, these four acclaimed organizations then amalgamated into the two we recognize and celebrate today the Qatari Theatrical Troupe and the Doha Theatrical Troupe. Since then, Qatar has gone on to build the noble Qatar National Theater, which opened its doors in 1986 and the impressive Qatar National Convention Centre in 2011, with its 2,300-seat theatre.

Tuned In, celebrates Qatars globally acclaimed television industry at Intajs second gallery. Since the founding of the ever-popular national public service channel Qatar Television in August 1970, the nations TV scene has scaled new heights. An invaluable voice for the nation, Qatar TV has become a long-standing and reliable source of information for the people of Qatar through news bulletins and political, economic, religious, cultural, sports, scientific and medical programs.

During its celebrated five decades in operation, Qatar TV has launched the careers of countless directors, reporters, actors and other television industry professionals. The station provides media and journalism students with invaluable insights and experience in broadcasting, and was one of the first Arab channels to include fully modern devices and equipment. As vital today as ever, Qatar TV continues to tirelessly promote Qatars cultural values and raise awareness of important issues.

The third gallery shines the spotlight on Qatars rich cinematic history with A Focus on Filmmaking, beginning with modest 16mm film theatres in the 1950s. As popularity grew with local audiences, venues began opening throughout the country, resulting in the formation of the Qatar Cinema Company in 1970.

The nations film production industry took its first tentative steps in 1975, when Qatar TV began making short documentaries.

The art form grew into todays thriving cinema industry, and in 2010, HE Sheikha Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani founded the Doha Film Institute (DFI) to support the continued growth of the Qatari and regional film community through funding, training and international networking opportunities for content creators in the Arab world and beyond.

To date, the Institute has supported over 750 projects from over 75 countries and is the first Arab organization to receive 10 Oscar nominations in seven consecutive years for its supported films.

Flowing through explorations of each art forms development and influences on contemporary culture, the Intaj journey presents inspiring works from local multidisciplinary artists including Hamida Issa, Mohammed Al Hamadi, Maryam Faraj Al Suwaidi, Amna Al Baker, Noor Al Naser, and Rawda Al-Thani, among others in The Interactive Age of Storytellers gallery. The journey concludes with a retrospective of world cinematic history with the Qatar Museums gallery, The Story of Cinema and a cinematographic wall featuring contributions from Qatars creative community.

Celebrating the very best in Qatari and Arabic filmmaking, creativity and art, the Doha Film Experience will expand this years amazing celebrations with an extensive program of unmissable screenings, a captivating multimedia exhibition, Qatars largest pop culture event Geekdom and a slate of exciting live concerts with Ajyal Tunes.

الدوحة: افتتحت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام اليوم معرض /إنتاج/، المعرض المتعدد الوسائط الذي يتتبع تاريخ السينما والتلفزيون والمسرح في قطر، ويقام في سكة وادي مشيرب، في الفترة من 8 نوفمبر 2022 إلى 22 يناير 2023، وذلك ضمن فعاليات تجربة الدوحة للأفلام، بالتزامن مع تنظيم قطر لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022.

حضر حفل الافتتاح سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني رئيس مجلس أمناء مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، وسعادة الشيخ عبدالعزيز بن ثاني آل ثاني الرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة القطرية للإعلام، وسعادة الدكتور حمد بن عبدالعزيز الكواري وزير الدولة ورئيس مكتبة قطر الوطنية، وسعادة السيد حسن الذوادي الأمين العام للجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، وعدد من كبار الشخصيات والمسؤولين.

ومعرض /إنتاج/ من إعداد الشيخ خليفة بن عبدالله آل ثاني، وينظم بالشراكة مع وزارة الثقافة ومشيرب العقارية ومتاحف قطر، وبالتعاون مع المؤسسة القطرية للإعلام بصفة “الشريك الإعلامي”.

وقالت فاطمة حسن الرميحي الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، إن معرض /إنتاج/ بمثابة تحية تقدير لتراث وإرث وطننا في مجالات المسرح والسينما والتلفزيون، حيث ساهم كل مجال في تعزيز مكانة قطر لتصبح مركزا للامتياز الثقافي إلى جانب الفنون الأخرى التي تعد القلب النابض لهوية قطر الثرية، ونفتخر بمشاركتها مع كل العالم ضمن تجربة الدوحة للأفلام.

وأشارت إلى أن المعرض سيلقي الضوء على فنانين استثنائيين وموهوبين في مجالات متعددة لنبرز ثقافة وطننا كوجهة للرياضة، وكذلك للإلهام وللفنون الإبداعية على حد سواء.

وتتمحور صالة العرض الأولى في معرض /إنتاج/ حول الحركة المسرحية في قطر التي شهدت تطورا ملحوظا منذ بداياتها في المدارس والنوادي الاجتماعية، ثم بدأت بشكلها المعاصر من خلال تأسيس فرقة قطر المسرحية في عام 1972 وفرقة السد المسرحية بعدها بعام.

ومع تطور هذا النوع من الفن واكتسابه مزيدا من الشعبية، تم تأسيس فرقتين مسرحيتين إضافيتين وهما فرقة الأضواء المسرحية والفرقة الشعبية المسرحية.

وفي عام 1994، اندمجت هذه الفرق الأربع لتشكل فرقتين لا زلنا نعرفهما اليوم ونحتفي بإبداعاتهما وهما فرقة قطر المسرحية وفرقة الدوحة المسرحية. وتلت هذه الفترة عدة تطورات، من بينها إنشاء مسرح قطر الوطني الذي بدأ في استقبال الجمهور ابتداء من عام 1986 ومركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات في عام 2011 والذي يضم مسرحا بسعة استيعابية تصل إلى 2300 مقعد.

كما يحتفي /إنتاج/ في صالة عرضه الثانية بصناعة التلفزيون الناجحة في قطر حيث يمكن تتبع جذور نشأة التلفزيون في قطر إلى تلك اللحظة التاريخية التي شهدت تأسيس تلفزيون قطر صاحب الشعبية الواسعة، فقد انطلق بث القناة الوطنية لأول مرة في أغسطس 1970، وأصبحت مصدرا موثوقا للمعلومة والخبر لسائر أهل قطر من خلال برامجها الإخبارية والسياسية والاقتصادية والدينية والثقافية والرياضية والعلمية والطبية.

وخلال العقود الخمسة التي شهدت تشغيل القناة، كانت القناة بمثابة شرارة الانطلاق للمسيرة المهنية للعديد من المخرجين والمذيعين والممثلين وغيرهم من العاملين في صناعة التلفزيون، وساعدت المحطة طلاب الإعلام والصحافة على اكتساب الخبرة والدراية بعملية البث وكانت من أوائل القنوات العربية التي تستخدم أحدث الأجهزة والمعدات. ويستمر اليوم تلفزيون قطر في ممارسة دوره الحيوي بالترويج لقيم قطر الثقافية ورفع الوعي بأبرز وأهم القضايا.

وتسلط صالة العرض الثالثة الضوء على صناعة الأفلام والتاريخ السينمائي لدولة قطر، حيث بدأت الحركة السينمائية المعاصرة والمبهرة في قطر بمسارح تعرض الأفلام بصيغة 16 مليمترا خلال الخمسينيات من القرن الماضي، وحصدت شعبية واسعة لدى الجماهير المحلية، وهو ما أدى لافتتاح المزيد من دور العرض في البلاد بفضل تأسيس شركة قطر للسينما خلال السبعينيات.

وبدأت صناعة السينما الوطنية المزدهرة باتخاذ خطواتها الأولى المبدئية خلال عام 1975 عندما بدأ تلفزيون قطر بصناعة الأفلام الوثائقية القصيرة.

وتطورت الصناعة في عام 2010 عندما أسست سعادة الشيخة المياسة بنت حمد آل ثاني مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام لدعم نمو مجتمع صناع الأفلام في قطر وتقديم التمويل والتدريب والدعم وتوسيع شبكة علاقات صناع الأفلام في الدول العربية والعالم.

ووصل عدد المشاريع السينمائية التي دعمتها المؤسسة حتى الآن إلى أكثر من 750 مشروعا من 75 دولة وعرض عدد كبير منها في أبرز المهرجانات السينمائية الدولية وأصبحت مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام أول مؤسسة سينمائية عربية تحصد 10 ترشيحات أوسكار خلال 7 سنوات متتالية.

ويقدم /إنتاج/ معلومات حول تطور كل شكل من أشكال الفنون وتأثيره على الثقافة المعاصرة، رحلة تأخذ عصر رواة القصص التفاعلية، حيث يعرض أعمالا ملهمة لفنانين محليين في مجالات فنية متنوعة، منهم حميدة عيسى، محمد الحمادي، مريم فرج السويدي، آمنة الباكر، نور النصر، روضة آل ثاني وغيرهم. وتختتم الرحلة بمعرض يستعيد تاريخ السينما العالمي مع غاليري متاحف قطر “قصة السينما” وجدار سينماتوغرافي يعرض مساهمات للمجتمع الإبداعي القطري.

واحتفالا بأفضل أعمال صناعة الأفلام القطرية والعربية والفنون الإبداعية، توسع الدوحة للأفلام احتفالاتها الرائعة في هذا العام ببرنامج مكثف من العروض والمعارض المتعددة الوسائط، وجيكدوم الذي يعد أكبر فعالية للثقافة الدارجة في قطر، بالإضافة إلى مجموعة من الحفلات الموسيقية الحية ضمن إيقاعات أجيال.
