Sakha Exhibition Tells the Story of Qatari Architecture

Doha: Calm envelops the place, houses made of clay tell about the simplicity of living for those who were residing in the land, stories told by Qatari artist Yousef Ahmed in the exhibition Sakha opened this evening until Jan. 20. 2023, at Al-Markhiya gallery in the fire station, the artists’ house.
This exhibition is organized in conjunction with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and reception of global audience that will enjoy watching football matches, and learning about Qatari and Arab culture together.
The artist Yousef Ahmed told QNA that he branded his exhibition with Sakha to symbolize for the quiet place devoid of any kind of life, with no sense, devoid of the voice of any human or animal with profound silence.
He expressed that after this fuss and noise imprinting the life, social media and all other distractions, a person should resort to a period of calm by wandering around neighborhoods and narrow streets between the old Qatari architecture, in search of calm and serenity.
He described the exhibition as the voice of Qatari architecture to the audience, how all these changes happened from old buildings to World Cup stadiums, streets and modern achievements to link the past with the present, which gives this visitor a deeper look at Qatar’s culture.
Long time after the ancient Arab poet stood on the ruins and remembered his loved ones with the rhymed poems, the lover of Qatar’s soil and its palms, artist Yousef Ahmed, replaced the poem with painting and colors that reflect the authentic Qatari architecture, revealing how these places captivated him, how they were once teeming with life and how they are now, inviting the audience to live and enjoy these places historically and visually.
Maker of this exhibition stressed that buildings, alleys and places in his paintings point to the extent of the interdependence of places and people and their relationship with time, which express the extent of Qatar’s ability through its local architecture, which succeeded in implementing sports facilities for the mega event.
In turn, art critic Dr. Alaa Bashir, commenting on Ahmed’s works, expressed through the exhibition brochure that for decades, the Qatar Art Center has given him the opportunity to see most of what Yusuf Ahmed produced with brushes and different colors on canvas as well as on paper that he makes himself from the Qatar palm leaves, underlining that what this artist draws expresses a continuous search for the meaning of human existence, his paintings are a continuous series that tries to express the perplexity of man in attempt to realize his existence, from the scattered ruins through time, expressed by Yusuf Ahmed with houses that are silent at different times, cleverly indicated by shades and colors with artistic skill.
Alaa Bashir believes that this is what makes the recipient go back to the past while walking to the future.

الدوحة: هدوء يلف المكان.. بيوت من الطين، تنبئ عن بساطة عيش من سكنوا الديار، وخصوصيات وحكايا، يرويها الفنان القطري يوسف أحمد في معرض /صخة/ بجاليري المرخية في مطافئ: مقر الفنانين الذي تم افتتاحه مساء اليوم ويستمر حتى 20 يناير 2023.
ويأتي تنظيم هذا المعرض بالتزامن مع تنظيم قطر لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، واستقبالها للجمهور العالمي الذي سيحقق متعة متابعة مباريات كرة القدم، والتعرف على الثقافة القطرية والعربية معا.
وقال الفنان يوسف أحمد في تصريح لوكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/، إنه وسم معرضه بـ/صخة/ في دلالة على ذلك المكان الهادئ والخالي من أي نوع من الحياة الذي ليس فيه حس ولا نس. يخلو من صوت أي إنسان أو حيوان وفيه (سهدة) أي هدوء مطبق باللهجة القطرية.
وأضاف: إنه بعد هذه الضجة والجلبة التي تطبع حياتنا في الوقت الحاضر من وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي وعدد من مشتتات الذهن، فإن الإنسان ينبغي له اللجوء إلى فترة هدوء بالتجول في الفرجان والشوارع الضيقة بين المعمار القطري القديم، بحثا عن الهدوء والصفاء.
وأردف قائلا: إن المعرض مساهمة مني كفنان قطري من أجل إطلاع جمهور كأس العالم على المعمار القطري كيف كان قديما، وكيف وصلنا إلى المباني، التي أبهرت العالم من ملاعب مونديالية وشوارع، والمنجزات الحديثة، وذلك في ربط بين الماضي والحاضر، فضلا عن إعطاء هذا الزائر نظرة عن ثقافتنا التي نعتز بها.
وإذا كان الشاعر العربي قديما وقف على الأطلال يتذكر الأحبة بالقصيدة الطللية المقفاة، فإن عاشق تراب قطر ونخيلها، الفنان يوسف أحمد، استعاض عن ذلك باللوحة والريشة وألوانه التي تعكس المعمار القطري الأصيل، كاشفا كيف أسرته هذه الأمكنة وكيف كانت يوما من الأيام تعج بالحياة وكيف أصبحت الآن في الواقع وفي مخيلته، مقدما دعوته للجمهور لكي يعيشوا هذه الأماكن ويستمتعوا بها تاريخيا وبصريا.
وأكد صاحب المعرض في ختام تصريحه لـ/ قنا/ أن المباني والأزقة والأماكن تشير في لوحاته إلى مدى ترابط الأماكن والإنسان وعلاقتهما بالزمان، لافتا إلى أن هذه اللوحات تعبر عن مدى قدرة قطر من خلال معمارها المحلي على الاستفادة، منه وكيف نجحت في تنفيذ المنشآت الرياضية للحدث الكبير.
بدوره، كتب الناقد الفني الدكتور علاء بشير معلقا على إبداعات الفنان يوسف أحمد في كتيب المعرض: “أتاح لي مركز قطر الفني لأكثر من عقد من الزمن، فرصة مشاهدة معظم ما أنتجه يوسف أحمد بالفرشاة والألوان المختلفة على القماش وكذلك على الورق الذي يصنعه بنفسه من سعف نخيل قطر”، مشيرا إلى أنه من خلال ذلك يريد أن يؤكد لنفسه أهمية المادة في وجودنا، مضيفا: ما يرسمه هذا الفنان يعبر عن بحث مستمر في مغزى وجود الإنسان، فلوحاته سلسلة متواصلة تحاول التعبير عن حيرة ومحنة الإنسان في محاولته إدراك ووعي وجوده، من خلال آثاره المتناثرة عبر الزمن. والتي يعبر عنها يوسف أحمد بالبيوت التي يسودها الصمت في أزمان مختلفة تشير إليها بذكاء الظلال والألوان بمهارة فنية.
ويرى علاء بشير أن هذا هو ما يجعل المتلقي يرحل إلى الماضي وهو يسير إلى المستقبل.
