10 Qatari terms you should know before the World Cup

Doha: As usual, the Qatari people are hospitable by nature and anxious to welcome all fans to the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East. Perhaps the Qatari dialect will not constitute an obstacle for visitors or fans, because the organizing committees of the World Cup worked to provide organizers and volunteers who speak different languages to deal with everyone.. But you will definitely feel the desire to get to know the dialect of this hospitable country. There is no doubt that each country has a different dialect that distinguishes it from the rest of the countries.. The same is true of the Qatari dialect.. So we will try to provide some basic words that you may need:

You will hear phrases such as:

“Hayya Allah min Yana” or “Al Sa’a Al Mobaraka” or “Eqlit” and it means: Welcome, or please come in.. and these are beautiful phrases to welcome the guests

If you ask when a match is scheduled and someone answers you “Bacher”, it means tomorrow

Also, if you hear the word “Shrakhyat”, know that the fireworks section will start in the sky.

And if you are eating, there are terms you may not understand such as:

“Qafsha” means spoon

“Gharsha” means a bottle

Also, you may hear “Smaj” which means fish

The word “Machboos” you will hear a lot, and it is a meal, which is the main meal of Qatari cuisine.

And if you are asked “eshtibi?” it means what do you want?

And also “shfik?” it means what happened to you or what about you?

And when you hear the phrase “La tihati”, then you are being reassured, which means don’t worry.

There are also some vocabulary like:

“Batal” means open

“Darisha” means the window

“Khashm” means nose

These terms may be important to take into account in the Qatari dialect, but in conclusion, you will see the complete picture when you set foot on the World Cup land and feel the hospitality among the people of this country, and then you will have a World Cup memory that will last for ages and warms your heart whenever you hear about “Qatar”.

الدوحة: كعادة الشعب القطري فهو مضياف بطبعه ويرحب بالعالم أجمع في أول مونديال يقام على أرضه بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط، وربما لن تشكل اللهجة القطرية عائقا أمام أي زائر أو مشجع لأن اللجان المنظمة للمونديال عملت على توفير منظمين ومتطوعين يتحدثون لغات مختلفة للتعامل مع الجميع.. لكنك حتما ستشعر برغبة في التعرف على لهجة هذا البلد المضياف.ولاشك ان لكل دوله لهجه مختلفة تتميز بها عن باقي الدول .. وكذلك الحال في اللهجة القطرية.. لذا سنحاول في هذا التقرير تقديم بعض الكلمات الأساسية التي قد تحتاجها:

سيتكرر على مسامعكم مفردات مثل:

“حي الله من يانا” أو “الساعة المباركة” أو “اقلط” وتعني : تفضل بالقدوم .. وهي عبارات جميلة للترحيب بالضيوف

إذا كنت تسأل عن موعد مباراة وأجابك أحدهم “باجر” فهي تعني غدا

أيضا إذا تناهى إلى سمعك كلمة شراخيات فاعلم أن فقرة الألعاب النارية ستبدأ في السماء.

وإذا كنت تتناول الطعام فهناك مصطلحات قد لاتفهمها مثل:

قفشة وتعني ملعقة

غرشه وتعني زجاجة

وأيضا قد تسمع “سمج” ومعناها السمك

كلمة “المجبوس” ستسمعها كثيرا وهي وجبة المكبوس وتعد الوجبة الرئيسية على المائدة القطرية

وإذا سالك أحدهم “شتبي؟” فهو حتما يقصد ماذا تريد؟

وأيضا عبارة شفيك؟ تعني ماذا حصل لك أو ماذا بك

وحين تسمع عبارة ” لا تحاتي” فهو بالطبع يريد طمأنتك وهي تعني لاتقلق

هناك أيضا بعض المفردات مثل:

“بطل” ومعناها افتح

“دريشه” ومعناها نافذة

“خشم” ومعناها أنف

قد تكون تلك المصطلحات مهمة لتلقي نظرة سريعة على اللهجة القطرية ولكن ختاما ستكتمل لديك الصورة حين تطأ قدماك أرض المونديال وتلمس كرم الضيافة بين أبناء هذه البلد وحينها ستحظى بذكرى مونديالية ستظل عالقة بين أذهانك كلما تردد على مسامعك اسم “قطر”.
