Qatar Wins ICAO Council Membership

Montreal: The State of Qatar has won membership of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council for the first time in its history, in the elections that took place Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the meetings of the 41st Session of the ICAO Assembly, which is convened in Montreal, Canada, with participation of delegations of 193 countries.
Qatar achieved a landslide victory in elections and garnered 160 votes, making it one of the highest-scoring candidates on Group C; something that emphasizes the countrys significant contributions and efforts in civil aviation industry.
Following the announcement, Minister of Transport H.E. Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said that Qatars winning of an ICAO Council membership emphasizes the countrys ranking and recognition at international fora, regionally and globally; under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He said it also reflects ICAO Member States confidence that Qatar is capable of significantly contributing to finding solutions to the aviation industrys current and future challenges.
The result, he added, was also a fruit of the massive work that the country has done for long to develop its civil aviation sector, and which receives tireless and unlimited support from the government, until that critical sector has become world-renowned.
Todays achievement, he said, ushers in a new era to further consolidate the countrys leading position in civil aviation industry worldwide, and serves as an incentive to continue innovatively deploying the best universal practices in safety, security, air navigation and environmental sustainability.
The minister also asserted Qatar would continue supporting ICAOs plans and programs to achieve its objectives and principles, sharing many of ICAOs values toward a sustainable future for aviation industry, thus ensuring no country is left behind, in addition to working with all Member States to keep the skies a safe place for all.
HE the Minister thanked heads and members of all delegations participating in the 41st ICAO Assembly for their confidence and backing of Qatars membership bid. He also appreciated the great efforts of work teams from all entities.

مونتريال: فازت دولة قطر، للمرة الأولى، بعضوية مجلس منظمة الطيران المدني الدولي (إيكاو) عن الفئة الثالثة للأعوام الثلاثة المقبلة 2023 – 2025، وذلك عقب الانتخابات التي جرت اليوم ضمن اجتماعات الجمعية العمومية الـ 41 للمنظمة، والمنعقدة حاليا بمقرها في مونتريال بكندا بمشاركة وفود 193 دولة.
وحققت قطر فوزا كاسحا في الانتخابات، حيث حصلت على 160 صوتا، لتكون ضمن أعلى الدول تصويتا بالفئة الثالثة، ما يؤكد إسهامات الدولة القيمة وجهودها المبذولة في قطاع الطيران المدني.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات: إن “فوز دولة قطر بعضوية مجلس منظمة (إيكاو) يؤكد على مكانة الدولة وتقديرها في المحافل الدولية على المستوى الإقليمي والعالمي بقيادة حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، كما يعكس مدى ثقة الدول الأعضاء في المنظمة بقدرة دولة قطر على الإسهام بشكل كبير في إيجاد حلول للتحديات التي تواجه صناعة الطيران في الوقت الراهن والأعوام المقبلة”.
وأضاف سعادته أن هذه الثقة جاءت ثمرة لحجم العمل الكبير الذي بذلته الدولة في تطوير قطاع الطيران المدني، والذي يلقى متابعة حثيثة ودعما لا محدودا من الحكومة الرشيدة، حتى أصبح هذا القطاع الحيوي ذي صيت عالمي.
وأوضح سعادته أن هذا الإنجاز يمثل مرحلة جديدة في تعزيز مكانة الدولة الرائدة في قطاع الطيران المدني عالميا، وسيشكل حافزا لمتابعة مسيرة الابتكار في تطبيق أفضل الممارسات العالمية في مجال السلامة والأمن والملاحة الجوية والاستدامة البيئية.
وأكد سعادته على مواصلة دولة قطر دعمها خطط وبرامج منظمة (إيكاو) لتحقيق أهدافها ومبادئها، والتشارك معها في العديد من القيم حول مستقبل مستدام لقطاع الطيران، ما يضمن عدم ترك أي بلد وراء الركب، فضلا عن العمل مع جميع الدول الأعضاء بالمنظمة للحفاظ على السماء مكانا آمن للجميع.
وتوجه سعادة وزير المواصلات بالشكر والتقدير إلى رؤساء وأعضاء وفود جميع الدول المشاركة في الجمعية العامة على ثقتهم، ودعم عضوية دولة قطر لمجلس منظمة (إيكاو) عن الفئة الثالثة للسنوات الثلاث المقبلة، كما أشاد سعادته بالجهود الكبيرة التي بذلها فريق العمل من جميع الجهات.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن دولة قطر قدمت ترشيحها لعضوية مجلس منظمة الطيران المدني إيكاو، واستطاعت بنجاح أن تحصد عددا كافيا من الأصوات، يؤهلها لأن تكون من صناع القرار في مجلس المنظمة.
