Four new underpasses to improve connectivity along Corniche waterfront

Doha: Four new underpasses have been added along the Corniche waterfront for ease of access and to enhance the movement of pedestrians, said an official.
Engineer Laila Jassim Salem, project design manager at the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar said that to enhance the movement of people and ease their access to the waterfront, four underpasses have been prepared to ensure that pedestrians reach the waterfront without crossing the road.
Speaking to Qatar Radio, she pointed out that these subways include Al Dafna Tunnel, Corniche Station Tunnel, and West Bay Station Tunnel, in addition to the Museum of Islamic Art Tunnel.
She explained that the aim of this is to enhance the movement of pedestrians and connect the paths with the neighboring places. Also, footpaths and crossings for pedestrians and bicycles have been provided.
It has also established an integrated network that includes pedestrian and bicycle paths, allowing visitors to stop at Souq Waqif and move through underpasses that allow them to visit the Museum of Islamic Art.
The official added that the old Doha area has been made into a new tourist destination and designed as a recreational outlet, where new yards were added, taking into account the identity of the old area.

الدوحة: تمت إضافة أربعة أنفاق جديدة على طول الواجهة البحرية للكورنيش لتسهيل الوصول وتعزيز حركة المشاة، وذلك ما صرّحت به المهندسة ليلى جاسم سالم، مديرة تصميم المشروع في اللجنة الإشرافية لتجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة في قطر، وذلك لتعزيز حركة الناس وتسهيل وصولهم إلى الواجهة البحرية، فقد تم تجهيز أربعة أنفاق لضمان وصول المشاة إلى الواجهة البحرية بدون عبور الطريق.
وأشارت في حديث لراديو قطر إلى أن هذه الأنفاق تشمل نفق الدفنة ونفق محطة الكورنيش ونفق محطة الخليج الغربي، بالإضافة إلى نفق متحف الفن الإسلامي.
وأوضحت أن الهدف من ذلك هو تعزيز حركة المشاة وربط الممرات بالأماكن المجاورة. كما تم توفير ممرات المشاة ومعابر للمشاة والدراجات.
كما تم إنشاء شبكة متكاملة تضم ممرات للمشاة والدراجات، مما يسمح للزوار بالتوقف عند سوق واقف والتنقل عبر نفق يسمح لهم بزيارة متحف الفن الإسلامي.
وأضاف المسؤول أن منطقة الدوحة القديمة تحولت إلى وجهة سياحية جديدة وصُمِّمَت كمنفذ ترفيهي حيث تم إضافة ساحات جديدة مع مراعاة هوية المنطقة القديمة.
