QU Launches 3 Electronic Courses Via edX Free Online Platform

Doha: Qatar University (QU) has launched three open and broad-based online courses on the edX Free Online Courses platform in a new initiative that enhances the presence of QU in the digital platforms and opens new window to the world.

The online courses, which were announced Sunday through a press conference, comprises Non-native Arabic speakers, Human in Islam and Qatar’s history and legacy with the objective of introducing the Arab and Islamic culture, including Qatar’s history to a wide spectrum of those who are interested from different territories worldwide.

HE QU President Dr. Hassan Rashid Al-Derham said that the launch of these online courses is a new indicator of the paradigm progress QU is achieving and making progressive and steady steps toward enhancing its status in the digital space, specially with the variations imposed by COVID-19 pandemic, pointing out that QU has established an office of online education and digital learning, and upgraded a number of academic courses rolled out through distance education and blended learning based on the best global criteria, adding that QU has created an office of digital and electronic education in recognition of its vital significance and profound impact in this age that witnesses enormous technological evolution that can be optimally employed for the transfer of educational practice from conventional techniques to the education that is based on comprehension, research, innovation, thinking and experimentation.

Dr. Hassan Rashid Al-Derham affirmed that such digital orientation opens new prospects for students and teachers, as well as upgrades the techniques and tools utilized to make innovation, competition and excellence in results, planning, information security and the ability to innovate the suitable solutions for the challenges the inherent tenets of QU’s graduates.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Omar Al-Ansari emphasized that such courses have been designed with the objective of extending the bridges of cultural and civilized communications between the State of Qatar and World, in addition to introducing the Qatari identity, hailing the unwavering efforts exerted by the faculty members and the staff of the Digital Learning and E-Learning Office at QU to finalize this project.

For her part, Director of (QU) Core Curriculum Program Dr Rana Sobh, who supervised the program, said that the production of these courses came based on the education and learning strategy and transition to digital learning in QU.

In addition, Director of the Digital Learning and Online Education Office at QU Mohammad Al-Smadi said that QU had signed a cooperation agreement with edX Free Online Courses by Harvard last June to contribute to achieving QU’s mission in spreading knowledge and science at the global level, adding that the cooperation with edX increases the number of students enrolling in the university, which subsequently increases the number of followers and pioneers and contributes to attaining the better ranks in the global classifications.

He pointed out to the role of this contribution in enriching the Arab educational content on the internet through offering the opportunity to launch courses in Arabic language, emphasizing QU’s keenness to proceed with its endeavors to combine digital learning and electronic education into college education, in addition to offering the diverse electronic learning and education’s services for students, as well as local and global communities.

edX platform is one of the largest platforms of distance education worldwide, and it was founded in a cooperation between Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2012, and the number of registered students is currently about (42) million learners from around the world.

الدوحة: أطلقت جامعة قطر ثلاثة مقررات إلكترونية مفتوحة وواسعة النطاق عبر منصة إيدكس (edX) التعليمية العالمية، في بادرة جديدة تعزز حضور الجامعة على المنصات الرقمية، وتفتح نافذة جديدة على العالم.

وتتمثل المقررات الإلكترونية التي أعلن عنها اليوم خلال لقاء صحفي في (اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها)، و(الإنسان في الإسلام)، و(تاريخ وإرث قطر)؛ بهدف التعريف بالثقافة العربية والإسلامية وتاريخ قطر للمهتمين من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

وقال سعادة الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر: إن إطلاق هذه المقررات مؤشر جديد على أن الجامعة تحقق تقدما نوعيا وتمضي قدما بخطا حثيثة نحو تعزيز مكانتها في الفضاء الرقمي، لا سيما مع التغيرات التي فرضتها جائحة كورونا.

وأشار في هذا الإطار إلى أن جامعة قطر أنشأت مكتبا للتعلم الرقمي والتعليم الإلكتروني، وطورت عددا من المقررات الأكاديمية التي تطرح بنظامي التعليم عن بعد والتعليم المدمج وفق أفضل المعايير العالمية.

وأضاف: “لقد استحدثت الجامعة مكتب التعليم الرقمي والتعليم الإلكتروني إدراكا منها بأهميته القصوى وأثره البالغ في هذا العصر الذي يشهد تطورا تقنيا وتكنولوجيا هائلا، ويمكن توظيفه على النحو الأمثل للانتقال بالعملية التعليمية من الأساليب التقليدية إلى التعلم القائم على الفهم والبحث والابتكار والتفكير والتجريب”.

وأكد أن هذا التوجه الرقمي يفتح آفاقا جديدة للطلبة والأساتذة وتطوير الأساليب والأدوات للوصول إلى جعل الإبداع والمنافسة والتميز في النتائج والتخطيط للمستقبل والأمن في المعلومات والقدرة على ابتكار الحلول المناسبة للتحديات، سمات يتحلى بها خريج جامعة قطر.

من جانبه، أكد الدكتور عمر الأنصاري، نائب رئيس الجامعة للشؤون الأكاديمية، أنه تم تصميم هذه المقررات بهدف مد جسور التواصل الثقافي والحضاري بين قطر والعالم، والتعريف بالثقافة والهوية القطرية.. مشيدا بالجهود التي بذلها أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية وكادر مكتب التعلم الرقمي والتعليم الإلكتروني في الجامعة لإتمام هذا المشروع.

بدورها، قالت الدكتورة رنا صبح، مسؤولة استراتيجية التعليم والتعلم في الجامعة والتي أشرفت على المشروع: “إن إنتاج هذه المقررات جاء بناء على استراتيجية التعليم والتعلم والتحول إلى التعلم الرقمي في الجامعة”.

وأضافت أن هذا المشروع العلمي سيسهم في تعزيز الصورة الإيجابية لقطر، لا سيما أن إطلاق هذه المقررات يأتي بالتزامن مع كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، الحدث الرياضي الأكبر الذي تتجه إليه أنظار العالم.

من جهته، قال الدكتور محمد الصمادي، مدير مكتب التعلم الرقمي والتعليم الإلكتروني: إن الجامعة أبرمت اتفاقية تعاون مع منصة (edX) التعليمية العالمية في يونيو الماضي، بما يسهم في تحقيق رسالة الجامعة في نشر العلم والمعرفة على مستوى العالم.

وأضاف أن التعاون مع المنصة يزيد أعداد المقبلين على الدراسة والالتحاق بالجامعة، الأمر الذي سيزيد من متابعيها وروادها، وسيسهم في الوصول إلى مراتب أفضل في التصنيفات العالمية.

كما أشار إلى مساهمة هذا التعاون في إثراء المحتوى التعليمي العربي على الشبكة العنكبوتية؛ وذلك من خلال إتاحة الفرصة لإطلاق مقررات باللغة العربية.. مؤكدا استمرار الجامعة في مساعها نحو إدماج التعلم الرقمي والتعليم الإلكتروني في التعليم الجامعي، وتوفير مختلف خدمات التعليم والتعلم الإلكتروني للطلبة والمجتمعين المحلي والعالمي.

وتعد منصة /إيدكس/ من أكبر منصات التعلم عن بعد في العالم، حيث تم تأسيسها بالتعاون بين جامعة هارفارد ومعهد ماساتشوستس للتكنولوجيا (MIT) في عام 2012، ويبلغ عدد المسجلين فيها حاليا حوالي (42) مليون متعلم من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

وتطلق المنصة مقرراتها بالتعاون مع أكثر من 160 جامعة ومؤسسة تعليمية، ويمكن للمهتمين التسجيل في المقررات الثلاثة التي طرحتها جامعة قطر على منصة (edX) من خلال الدخول على الرابط: https://www.edx.org/school/qux.
