Qatar National Library Offers Artistic, Cultural and Tech Events in October

Doha: Qatar National Library is gearing up for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 by offering a variety of events and workshops in October focusing on football, art, music, technology, literature and culture.

On 2 October, the Library and Qatar Cancer Society will host a reading session presented by cancer survivor patients. The session will highlight their experiences with cancer, to be a source of support and inspiration for those fighting the disease.

On Oct. 3, the Library, in collaboration with the World Innovation Summit for Health 2022, will host an inclusive live cooking event for people with disabilities with chefs Nour Al Mazroei and Giles Duley to promote skills, happiness and wellbeing, as well as provide a pathway to living independently.

The Library will launch the second scientific research forum for young adults on Oct. 9 in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys, the forum aims to develop and improve students’ capabilities in the field of scientific research.

On 11 October, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Qatar, the Library together with the French Embassy in Qatar, will host an exhibition showcasing an exclusive selection of photographs taken during key moments, which forged the well-established tradition of cooperation between France and Qatar.

The Library will host the art exhibition, “Reesha” from 13 October to 31 December 2022. Under the slogan “We Welcome the World to Qatar 2022,” the exhibition will showcase childrens artwork, inspired by Qatars 2022 World Cup stadiums, with audio-descriptive guides and high-contrast raised images also making it accessible for visitors with impaired vision.

On 16 October, join the Library for the third community read and book discussion on the novel that won the 2016 Katara Prize for Arabic Novel, Kilimanjaro Spirit. Written by Ibrahim Nasrallah, the novel was inspired by real-life events when Nasrallah climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with a group of volunteers, including two Palestinian adolescents who had lost their legs.

The Library, on 17 October, will invite visitors to attend a lecture on “The Emergence and Development of Public and Private Libraries in Qatar.” The lecture will be presented by Professor Abdul Rahman Al Sunaidi, a researcher specializing in the modern history of Qatar who will talk about the development of major knowledge platforms and the expansion of the cultural scene in Qatar. Senior Archives Specialist at Qatar National Library Dr. Moez Al Duraidi will introduce the lecture and highlight the contents of the Heritage Library that depict the history of the cultural scene in Qatar.

On 19 October, CineMoon Ensemble, a member of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, will be back at the Library for a new project. Titled “The Sound of the Books and the Seventh Art,” The CineMoon Ensemble will play music from well-known movies such as Cinema Paradiso, The Godfather and many more.

The Librarys “Manuscript Studies Lecture Series” is also back for its monthly lecture on Oct. 20, Dr. Mohamed Hasan Ismail, a Senior Researcher at the Writing and Scripts Research Center of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Lecturer at the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts in Cairo will talk about “Paleography and Scripts in Arabic Manuscripts”.

The Library, on Oct. 21, invites visitors to learn about the cultural traditions of Palestine such as the dabkeh, an important traditional dance and the mawal, an Arabic genre of music.

On Oct. 24, the Library will host a workshop with Qatari artist, Fatima Al Nuaimi to work with participants on creating their own football fan’s hat with the theme of the Qatar World Cup 2022 .

The Library on Oct. 26, will host an introductory lecture that comes within the framework of a series of seminars on the archival and document collections preserved in the Heritage Library at Qatar National Library. Dr. Moez Al Duraidi, Senior Archives Specialist at Qatar National Library, will present a rare collection of documents and letters presented for the first time as individual copies preserved in the Library.

On 27 October, the Library celebrates World Day for Audiovisual Heritage with a webinar that will highlight the collaboration between Qatar National Library and the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives.

As part of welcoming the World Cup 2022 to Qatar, the Library will host Oct. 30, a FIFA 22 PlayStation tournament to unite community members with a shared passion for football and video games.

The Library wraps up its program for October with three workshops hosting Head of Emerging Technology and System Development at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Libraries, Dorothy C. Ogdon, to discuss topics on artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality. The workshops will take place on 30 and 31 October and 1 November.

The Library will continue to host a variety of fun and engaging events online throughout October. As the Library will host several in-person events, participants are reminded to adhere to the latest COVID-19 guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health to ensure the well-being and safety of the community.

الدوحة: تنظم مكتبة قطر الوطنية في شهر أكتوبر المقبل برنامجا زاخرا من الفعاليات التي تخاطب اهتمامات جميع الفئات العمرية وتركز على كرة القدم، والفنون، والموسيقى، والأدب، والتكنولوجيا.

وبمناسبة الاحتفال بالأسبوع القطري لسلامة المرضى، تقيم المكتبة بالتعاون مع الجمعية القطرية للسرطان جلسة قراءة، في الثاني من أكتوبر، يقدمها المتعافون من مرض السرطان حول تجاربهم في التعافي ويشاركون قصصهم الملهمة والداعمة لأولئك الذين يصارعون هذا المرض.

وبالتعاون مع مؤتمر القمة العالمي للابتكار في الرعاية الصحية (ويش) يتضمن البرنامج جلسة للطهي بصحبة الشيف نور المزروعي والشيف جايلز دولي، في الثالث من أكتوبر، بهدف تعزيز مهارات ذوي الإعاقة وتمكينهم من ممارسة حياتهم باستقلالية.

وتطلق المكتبة في التاسع من أكتوبر ملتقى البحث العلمي الثاني لليافعين بالتعاون مع وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي ومدرسة قطر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا الثانوية للبنين، لتمكين طلاب المرحلتين الإعدادية والثانوية من بناء وتطوير قدراتهم في مجال البحوث العلمية.

وبمناسبة الذكرى الخمسين لتأسيس العلاقات الدبلوماسية بين قطر وفرنسا، تنظم المكتبة في 11 أكتوبر، وبالتعاون مع السفارة الفرنسية لدى الدولة، معرضًا يسلط الضوء على مجموعة حصرية من الصور الفوتوغرافية التي توثق لحظات تاريخية فارقة أصبحت الآن معالم بارزة ضمن تقاليد التعاون الراسخ بين البلدين.

وابتداءً من 13 أكتوبر حتى 31 ديسمبر، وتحت شعار “نرحب بالعالم في كأس العالم 2022″، تستضيف المكتبة المعرض الفني “ريشة” الذي يعرض رسومات الأطفال المستلهمة من استادات بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022. ويصاحب المعرض وصف صوتي وصور بارزة عالية التباين لإثراء زيارة ذوي الإعاقة البصرية للمعرض الذين يستطيعون الاستماع للوصف الصوتي عن طريق مسح رمز الاستجابة السريعة المتوفر في أقسام المعرض المختلفة بكاميرا الهاتف كما يمكنهم تحسس مجسمات اللوحات بأطراف الأصابع.

وفي 16 أكتوبر، يلتقي أفراد المجتمع في رحاب المكتبة الوطنية ضمن جلسة القراءة التي تناقش رواية “أرواح كِلِمنجارو” التي فازت بجائزة كتارا للرواية العربية لعام 2016، وتستضيف المؤلف ابراهيم نصر الله للحديث عن تجربته في تسلق جبل كِلِمنجارو في يناير 2014 مع مجموعة من المتطوعين وشابين فلسطينيين فقدا ساقيهما في الاعتداءات الإسرائيلية.

وتدعو المكتبة روادها في 17 أكتوبر لمحاضرة بعنوان “نشأة وتطور المكتبات العامة والخاصة في قطر” يقدمها السيد عبدالرحمن السنيدي الباحث في تاريخ قطر الحديث ومؤلف كتاب “المتاحف والمكتبات الخاصة في قطر”، الذي يتناول بدايات تشكيل المحطات المعرفية الكبرى واتساع مجالات المشهد الثقافي في قطر. ويستهل المحاضرة الدكتور معز الدريدي، أخصائي أرشيف أول، الذي يتطرق إلى المصادر المختلفة في المكتبة التراثية التي وثقت تاريخ المشهد الثقافي في قطر.

وفي 19 أكتوبر، تدعوكم مكتبة قطر الوطنية لحضور حفل جديد لأوركسترا قطر الفلهارمونية في مقر المكتبة بعنوان “صوت الكتب والفن السابع” بصحبة فرقة سينيمون، عضو أوركسترا قطر ‏الفلهارمونية، التي ستعزف الموسيقى التصويرية لأشهر المسلسلات والأفلام السينمائية، مثل “الأب الروحي” و”آنا كارنينا” و”لعبة العروش”.

وضمن سلسلة محاضرات علم المخطوطات‏، تقيم المكتبة في 20 أكتوبر محاضرة بعنوان “الباليوجرافيا وخطوط المخطوطات العربية” يقدمها الدكتور محمد حسن إسماعيل، وهو باحث أول في مركز دراسات الخطوط بمكتبة الإسكندرية، ومحاضر بمعهد المخطوطات العربية بالقاهرة، ويركز فيها على خطوط المخطوطات وخُطوط النُسَّاخ والورَّاقين.

وفي 21 أكتوبر، تدعو المكتبة زوارها إلى محاضرة حول “الموال والدبكة الفلسطينية”، بينما تستضيف في 24 أكتوبر الفنانة القطرية فاطمة النعيمي التي تتعاون مع المشاركين لصنع قبعاتهم الرياضية التي تحمل شعار بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022.

وللتعرف على المجموعات الأرشيفية والوثائق المحفوظة في المكتبة التراثية، تقيم المكتبة في 26 أكتوبر محاضرة تمهيدية ضمن سلسلة من الندوات يتناول فيها الدكتور معز الدريدي، أخصائي أرشيف أول بمكتبة قطر الوطنية، نماذج نادرة من الوثائق والرسائل التي توجد في نُسخ وحيدة.

وتحتفي المكتبة في 27 أكتوبر باليوم العالمي للتراث السمعي البصري بإقامة ندوة تسلط الضوء على مبادرات التعاون المشتركة مع الاتحاد الدولي للأرشيفات الصوتية والسمعية البصرية.

كما تنظم المكتبة في 30 أكتوبر ضمن الاحتفال ببطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 منافسة في لعبة البلايستيشن الشهيرة “فيفا 22” ليتشارك أفراد المجتمع شغفهم بكرة القدم من خلال ألعاب الفيديو.

وتختتم المكتبة برنامج شهر أكتوبر بثلاث ورش تستضيف دوروثي سي أوجدون، رئيس قسم التكنولوجيا الناشئة وتطوير النظم في مكتبات جامعة ألاباما في برمنغهام، لمناقشة الذكاء الاصطناعي وتعلّم الآلات في 30 أكتوبر، وشرح مقدمة حول تقنيات الواقع الممتد، في 31 أكتوبر، واستخدامات النماذج الرقمية ثلاثية الأبعاد في الواقع الممتد، في 1 نوفمبر.
