QU Unveils Start-Up in Field of Financial Technology

Doha: Qatar University (QU) has announced the launch of a start-up in the financial technology sector dubbed “Genesis Technologies LLC” under the leadership of faculty members in the first-of-its-kind step for QU that seeks to stimulate innovations in the field of technology.

In a statement, QU clarified that the start-up is a direct result of its strategy for innovation and entrepreneurship that intend to make QU a stimulus for sustainable social and economic development in the state of Qatar in support of the national efforts dedicated to diversifying the economy and transition to the achievement of a knowledge-based economy in conformity with Qatar national vision 2030.

On this occasion, HE President of QU Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham said that QU, as the largest higher education’s institutions in Qatar and the foundation of knowledge and innovation in the state of Qatar, has launched Qatar University Holding Company within the framework of implementing its strategy for innovation and entrepreneurship to support the establishment of start-ups by the faculty members and researchers, noting that the goals of this company entail the commercial marketing for knowledge and innovations in the university with the objective of making the economic development as third pillar for QU’s mission, in addition to the two core pillars that target education and scientific research, pointing gout that QU’s strategic innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development office (SIEED) was launched after the holding company had launched numerous training, supervision, incubation and supporting programs that had attracted a plethora of faculty members, including researchers and students, stressing that Genesis Technologies LLC is one of the first fruit of these efforts.

In addition, the faculty members Dr. Mazen El Masri and Dr. Karim El Yafi, who are specialized in information management systems in the college of business and economics at QU partnered to establish Genesis Technologies LLC, especially that a professional team had established the Blockchain, which promised to largely enable more cost-effective and energy-efficient decentralized and secure transactions in the digital economy.

Blockchain remained increasingly vital in the digital age in a time we swiftly moving to the third generation of Web3 and Metaverse, said Mazen El Masri, Ph.D., Cofounder and CEO of Genesis Technologies LLC, pointing out that the current demonstrations of blockchain suffer from significant flaws, such as high consumption of energy coupled with the costly transactions, however, based on the findings of our research projects, we have the signs of technology that overcome these challenges and create new opportunities for our clients and partners, he added, commending the efforts of QU’s new holding company and its supporting team for assisting the start-up through the incubation and registration process, in addition to their constant strategic commitment as members of the board of directors.

For his part, the Director of the office of SIEED in QU Dr. Mahmoud Abdulwahed said that, since last January, the support team has embarked on designing and implementing multiple training, guidance and support programs that aim to encourage and care for the innovation and entrepreneurship for QU researchers, faculty members and students, pointing out that the start-up Genesis Technologies LLC has been registered in Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) to emerge the first company among several promising start-ups that would start to methodically emerge as a result of QU’s new strategic orientation by focusing on economic development.

Blockchain is known as a storage technology that verifies the authenticity of digital transactions on the internet with maximum security and encryption, which is impossible to break in light of the techniques currently available.

الدوحة: أعلنت جامعة قطر عن إطلاق شركة ناشئة في قطاع التكنولوجيا المالية باسم (جينيسيس تكنولوجيز) بقيادة أعضاء من هيئة التدريس، في خطوة تعد الأولى من نوعها للجامعة التي تسعى إلى دعم وتحفيز الابتكارات في المجال التكنولوجي.

وأوضحت الجامعة، في بيان، أن هذه الشركة تعد نتيجة مباشرة لاستراتيجيتها للابتكار والريادة الهادفة إلى جعل الجامعة محفزا للتنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية المستدامة في دولة قطر، وداعما للجهود الوطنية للتنويع الاقتصادي والانتقال بالبلاد إلى تحقيق اقتصاد قائم على المعرفة يتماشى مع رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030. وبهذه المناسبة، قال سعادة الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر، “إن الجامعة باعتبارها أكبر مؤسسة للتعليم العالي في قطر وحجر أساس للمعرفة والابتكار في الدولة، وفي إطار تنفيذ استراتيجيتها للابتكار والريادة، قد أطلقت شركة جامعة قطر القابضة كمظلة تجارية لدعم إنشاء الشركات الناشئة من قبل أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين”، لافتا إلى أن من أهداف الشركة التسويق التجاري للمعرفة والابتكارات في الجامعة، وذلك بهدف جعل التنمية الاقتصادية ركيزة ثالثة لرسالة الجامعة، إلى جانب الركيزتين الأساسيتين الهادفتين للتعليم والبحث العلمي.

وأشار إلى أن مكتب الابتكار الاستراتيجي والريادة والتنمية الاقتصادية بالجامعة أطلق بعيد إنشاء الشركة القابضة، العديد من برامج التدريب والإشراف والاحتضان والدعم التي استقطبت عددا كبيرا من أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين والطلبة، مشددا على أن شركة /جينيسيس/ تعد من أولى ثمار هذه الجهود.

وقد شارك في تأسيس شركة /جينيسيس تكنولوجيز/ كل من الدكتور مازن المصري والدكتور كريم اليافي، وهما من أعضاء هيئة التدريس المتخصصين في نظم إدارة المعلومات في كلية الإدارة والاقتصاد بجامعة قطر.

وكان فريق قد أنشأ منصة جديدة لتكنولوجيا سلسلة الكتل (بلوكتشين) Blockchain، والتي تعد بتمكين المعاملات اللامركزية والآمنة بشكل أكبر من حيث التكلفة والكفاءة في استخدام الطاقة في الاقتصاد الرقمي.

وقال الدكتور مازن المصري، الرئيس التنفيذي والمؤسس المشارك لشركة /جينيسيس/: “أصبحت تقنية سلسلة الكتل (بلوكتشين) ذات أهمية متزايدة في العصر الرقمي، خاصة ونحن نتحرك بسرعة إلى الجيل الثالث للويب Web3 وعالم الفضاء الرقمي Metaverse، لافتا إلى أن المظاهر الحالية لتكنولوجيا الـبلوكتشين تعاني من بعض العيوب الكبيرة، مثل الاستهلاك العالي جدا للطاقة والمعاملات المكلفة، مضيفا “استنادا إلى نتائج مخرجات مشاريعنا البحثية، تتوفر لدينا بوادر التكنولوجيا التي قد تتغلب على هذه التحديات وتخلق فرصا جديدة لعملائنا وشركائنا”. وثمن جهود شركة جامعة قطر القابضة الجديدة وفريقها الداعم؛ لمساعدة الشركة الناشئة من خلال عملية الحضانة والتسجيل وكذلك لالتزامهم الاستراتيجي المستمر كأعضاء في مجلس الإدارة”.

وبدوره، قال الدكتور محمود عبدالواحد، أمين سر مجلس إدارة شركة جامعة قطر القابضة، ومدير مكتب الابتكار الاستراتيجي والريادة والتنمية الاقتصادية في جامعة قطر، إن فريق الدعم شرع، منذ يناير الماضي، في تصميم وتنفيذ العديد من برامج التدريب والتوجيه والدعم التي تهدف إلى تشجيع ورعاية الابتكار وريادة الأعمال لدى باحثي جامعة قطر وأعضاء هيئة التدريس والطلبة، مشيرا إلى أنه تم تسجيل شركة /جينيسيس/ الجديدة لدى مركز قطر للمال لتظهر كأول شركة من بين العديد من الشركات الناشئة الواعدة التي ستبدأ في الظهور بشكل منتظم كنتاج للتوجه الاستراتيجي الجديد للجامعة بالتركيز على التنمية الاقتصادية.

وتعرف البلوكتشين بأنها تقنية للتخزين والتحقق من صحة وترخيص التعاملات الرقمية في الإنترنت بدرجة أمان عالية ودرجة تشفير قد يكون من المستحيل كسرها في ظل التقنيات المتوفرة حاليا.
