Doha Film Institute Introduces Film, Design Program

Doha: Doha Film Institute (DFI), Northwestern Qatar, VCUarts Qatar designed a new joint minor program in film and design. The program will provide students with advanced production and design training in film to create impactful visual narratives.
As part of the new minor, students from both universities will take a joint course in film and design and five electives of their choice from the list of courses that includes acting, animation, costume design, directing, sound design, and several others.
Chief Executive Officer of Doha Film Institute Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi added that “At the heart of building a vibrant ecosystem of film and creative professionals is providing high-quality educational opportunities locally. Over the years through our diverse programs, we have not only contributed to building an empowered generation of professionals but also nurtured a strong homegrown industry. The new program will strengthen the portfolio of ‘Made in Qatar’ projects with skilled professionals, trained in and from our nation, adding value to the advancement of the film and creative industries. Our partnership underlines our commitment to provide the best in knowledge & resources to the community, and to strengthen their skills in an industry that is undergoing a fascinating transformation.” Northwestern Qatar Dean and CEO Marwan Kraidy said the cross-institution collaboration addresses the increasing global demand for trained professionals in the film and design industries. “The new minor draws from our expertise in media and visual storytelling with VCUarts Qatar creative design expertise and DFI’s capacity for professional mentorships. Together we will provide students with an education that prepares them for a profession that will require both creativity and knowledge of traditional and emerging technologies.” “This collaboration is rooted in the spirit of multiversity in Education City and the key connections we have with our cultural partners such as Doha Film Institute, and underlies the cross-disciplinarity and connection between film and design,” said Dean of VCUarts Qatar Amir Berbic.
“The minor is designed to deepen perception when it comes to visual storytelling and media literacy, skills that are applicable to multiple career paths as well as graduate studies.” The film and design minor is the latest program offered by Northwestern Qatar in collaboration with Qatar Foundation partner universities. The school also runs joint programs in Africana studies as well as in media and politics in partnership with Georgetown University in Qatar.

ويوفر البرنامج للطلبة تدريبا متقدما في إنتاج وتصميم الأفلام لإنشاء روايات بصرية مؤثرة.
وكجزء من البرنامج الفرعي الجديد، سيتم تقديم دورة مشتركة للطلبة في صناعة الأفلام والتصميم، وخمس مواد اختيارية من قائمة الدورات التي تشمل التمثيل والرسوم المتحركة وتصميم الأزياء والإخراج وتصميم الصوت والعديد من الدورات الأخرى.
وقالت فاطمة حسن الرميحي الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام: “إن توفير فرص تعليمية عالية الجودة على الصعيد المحلي هو جزء أساسي من تطوير منظومة ناشطة للسينما والمتخصصين المبدعين”، مضيفة “أن برامجنا المتنوعة ساهمت على مر السنين، في بناء جيل متمكن من المتخصصين وفي دعم صناعة محلية راسخة”.
وأوضحت أن البرنامج الجديد سيعزز حافظة مشاريع (صنع في قطر) من خلال متخصصين مهرة مدربين في قطر، مما يوفر قيمة إضافية للنهوض بالصناعات السينمائية والإبداعية، مبينة أن هذه الشراكة تؤكد التزامهم بتقديم أفضل ما في المعرفة والموارد للمجتمع، وتعزيز مهاراتهم في صناعة تشهد تحولا مبهرا.
من جانبه، قال مروان الكريدي عميد جامعة نورثويسترن قطر ومديرها التنفيذي: “يستفيد البرنامج الفرعي الجديد من خبرتنا في وسائل الإعلام ورواية القصص المرئية، ومن خبرة التصميم الإبداعي في جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث، كلية فنون التصميم في قطر، ومن قدرة مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام على التوجيه المهني. معا سنوفر للطلبة تعليما يؤهلهم لمهنة تتطلب الإبداع والمعرفة بالتكنولوجيات التقليدية والناشئة”.
وأشار إلى أن العمل المشترك للمؤسسات هو استجابة للطلب العالمي المتزايد على المتخصصين المدربين في صناعة الأفلام والتصميم.
وبدوره، أكد أمير بيربتش، عميد جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث كلية فنون التصميم في قطر أن أسس هذا التعاون تعود إلى روح التعددية في المدينة التعليمية والروابط الرئيسية التي تتمتع بها الجامعة مع شركائها الثقافيين مثل مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام، وقال “ويكمن ذلك وراء تعدد التخصصات والعلاقة بين صناعة الأفلام والتصميم. صمم البرنامج الفرعي لتعميق الفهم عندما يتعلق الأمر بسرد القصص المرئية ومحو الأمية الإعلامية، وهي المهارات التي يمكن تطبيقها على مسارات وظيفية متعددة بالإضافة إلى الدراسات العليا”.
يشار إلى أن برنامج صناعة الأفلام والتصميم الفرعي هو أحدث برنامج تقدمه جامعة نورثويسترن قطر بالتعاون مع الجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر، كما تدير الجامعة برامج مشتركة في دراسات أفريكانا وفي الإعلام والسياسة بالاشتراك مع جامعة جورج تاون في قطر.
