Doha: The Consular Section of the US Embassy responded through the “Ask the Consul” service window provided by Al-Sharq website whether Qatari-borns can apply for the US visa lottery program.
The Diversity Visa Lottery Program (“DV Lottery”) allows up to 55,000 people from countries with low immigration rates to the United States in the last five years to qualify for an immigrant visa that qualifies the holder for a US green card (permanent residence).
And to answer whether people born in Qatar will be able to apply for the lottery program for diversity visas,” the consular section answered that Qatari-borns can apply for the lottery program for diversity visas, provided that other conditions are met.
What are the requirements for submitting an application?
There are two basic requirements for a Diversity Immigrant Visa:
1. Country of Birth – The applicant must be a native of one of the eligible countries. The applicant must indicate in the application form the country from which he belongs.
2. Education or work experience – the applicant must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, Or he/she should have, during the past five years, a minimum of two years of practical experience in a profession whose practice requires at least two years of training or experience.
What is a “country of affiliation”?
The applicant’s country of birth (not his nationality) is the country of affiliation. In some cases, if the main applicant was born in a country that is not eligible for the Diversity Visa Program, he or she may claim “affiliation” to the country where the spouse was born if the spouse belongs to one of the eligible countries. An applicant may also claim ‘affiliation’ to the country of birth of his or her parents if neither parent was born in the same country of birth as the applicant and was not a legal resident at the time of birth.
There is no minimum age to apply for a Diversity Immigrant Visa, but applicants must have the high school diploma or work experience required at the time of the interview.
Online application for a Diversity Immigrant Visa is easy and free. Beware of scammers who send fraudulent emails and letters and pretend to be affiliated with the US government in an attempt to get money from applicants.
Individuals can apply online from anywhere in the world, and married couples can submit one separate application each if both meet the eligibility requirements. If one of them is chosen, the other has the right to belong to the applicant who was chosen.

ما هي الشروط المطلوبة لتقديم الطلب؟
هناك شرطان أساسيان لتأشيرة هجرة التنوع:
1. بلد الميلاد – يجب أن يكون مقدم الطلب من مواليد بلد من البلدان المؤهلة. يجب على مقدم الطلب أن يشير في استمارة الطلب إلى البلد الذي ينتمي إليه.

يُعتبر بلد ميلاد مقدم الطلب (وليس جنسيته) هي بلد الانتماء. في بعض الحالات، إذا وُلد مقدم الطلب الرئيسي ببلد من البلدان غير المؤهلة لبرنامج تأشيرة التنوع فإنه يجوز له المطالبة “بالانتساب” إلى البلد الذي ولد به الزوج/الزوجة وذلك إذا كان الزوج/الزوجة ينتمي/تنتمي إلي أحد البلدان المؤهلة. يجوز لمقدم الطلب أيضًا المطالبة “بالانتساب” إلى بلد ولادة والديه وذلك إذا لم يكن أي من الوالدين قد ولد بنفس بلد ميلاد مقدم الطلب ولم يكن مقيمًا بموجب تصريح قانوني وقت ميلاد.
ولا يوجد حد أدنى للسن لمن يريد تقديم طلب الحصول على تأشيرة هجرة التنوع، ولكن يجب أن يكون المتقدمون حاصلين على شهادة إتمام التعليم الثانوي أو خبرة العمل المطلوبين وقت المقابلة.
