QRCS Supports Liberian Red Cross Efforts in Combating COVID-19

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has implemented the COVID-19 response project in Liberia, in support of government efforts to combat the spread of the virus, through several activities for the benefit of 28,417 people in four provinces: Buchanan, Kakata, Tubmanburg and Paynesville, in cooperation with the Liberian Red Cross and local partners.

In a statement, QRCS stated that the project included health and community awareness programs and activities to adhere to precautionary measures, such as wearing a mask, social distancing, washing hands, and training volunteers to carry out these tasks in cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, knowing that the number of beneficiaries of these awareness activities is estimated about 25 thousand people live in rural communities, public markets, and homes for the disabled and orphans.

QRCS explained that a campaign was also launched to raise awareness of the importance of “COVID-19” vaccines and to correct misconceptions among people regarding the vaccination process, in close cooperation between the Red Cross, the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health in Liberia, which resulted to an increase in the demand for vaccinations among the population.

QRCS stated that the project team also worked to strengthen the contact centers of the Liberian Red Cross in order to activate the community partnership and receive complaints and comments from the public, as well as provide assistance in the field of psychological first aid for 117 people of both genders who suffered psychological pressure as a result of the pandemic, in addition to other assistance in the field of water, sanitation and personal hygiene for the benefit of the weak, the sick, the disabled and the elderly in the targeted areas.

الدوحة: نفذ الهلال الأحمر القطري مشروع الاستجابة لجائحة كورونا /كوفيد-19/ في ليبيريا، دعما للجهود الحكومية في مكافحة انتشار الفيروس، وذلك من خلال عدة أنشطة لفائدة 28 ألفا و417 شخصا في أربع مقاطعات هي /بوتشانان/، /كاكاتا/، /توبمانبرغ/ و/باينسفيل/، بالتعاون مع الصليب الأحمر الليبيري وشركاء محليين.

وذكر الهلال الأحمر القطري، في بيان، أن المشروع تضمن برامج وأنشطة للتوعية الصحية والمجتمعية للالتزام بالإجراءات الاحترازية، مثل ارتداء الكمامة والتباعد الاجتماعي وغسيل اليدين وتدريب المتطوعين للقيام بهذه المهام بالتعاون مع الاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات الصليب الأحمر والهلال الأحمر، علما أن عدد المستفيدين من هذه الأنشطة التوعوية يقدر بحوالي 25 ألف نسمة في المجتمعات الريفية والأسواق العامة ودور رعاية المعاقين والأيتام.

وأوضح أنه تم أيضا إطلاق حملة للتوعية بأهمية لقاحات /كوفيد-19/، وتصحيح المفاهيم الخاطئة بين الأهالي تجاه عملية التلقيح، بالتعاون الوثيق بين الصليب الأحمر ووزارة الصحة والمعهد القومي للصحة العامة في ليبيريا، ما ساهم في زيادة معدلات الإقبال على تلقي اللقاحات بين السكان.

وذكر أن فريق المشروع عمل أيضا على تعزيز مراكز الاتصال التابعة للصليب الأحمر الليبيري، من أجل تفعيل الشراكة المجتمعية وتلقي الشكاوى والتعليقات من الجمهور، فضلا عن تقديم المساعدة في مجال الإسعاف النفسي الأولي لفائدة 117 شخصا من الجنسين ممن عانوا ضغوطا نفسية جراء الجائحة، بجانب مساعدات أخرى في مجال المياه والإصحاح والنظافة الشخصية لفائدة الضعفاء والمرضى وذوي الإعاقة وكبار السن في المناطق المستهدفة.
