Doha: Many people in various Arab countries and others seek to obtain a Schengen visa to travel to tourist destinations in Europe during summer and winter.

In this report, we provide you with the most important information about the Schengen visa, how to obtain it, fees for adults and children, and the countries whose citizens are required to apply.

The Schengen Visa website explains that a Schengen visa is a document that allows you to enter the entire Schengen area (to all 26 member states of the area) for a temporary period. Passengers holding Schengen visas can stay within the Schengen area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

The Schengen area consists of 26 European countries. These include Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein, which are not members of the European Union.

There are 59 countries that are exempt from Schengen visas and will be subject to the new ETIAS system that will come into effect in May 2023, which is not a visa, but a travel permit.

The application deadline for a Schengen visa for citizens of 103 countries is at least 15 days before the day you intend to travel, and no later than 6 months before the date of travel.

The processing time for a Schengen visa generally ranges from 15 to 30 days from the date of application. Some people receive the visa in less than two weeks, in rare cases consulates may take longer to process the application, up to 60 days.

Where to apply: Via the consulate or embassy of the Schengen country in which you will spend most of the time during your stay in the Schengen area, or via the visa application center relevant to the country to which you are applying.

Schengen visa fee

All types of Schengen visas have the same cost; Whatever the purpose, type of visa, or number of entries, no Schengen visa is more expensive than the other.

– The standard fee for a Schengen visa for an adult is €80.
– Children from 6 to 12 years old pay a reduced fee of €40.
– Certain groups of applicants (most students, as well as children under the age of six) are exempt from all visa fees.
– Providers may charge additional processing fees, these additional fees are separate from the cost of the Schengen visa application.
– All fees are non-refundable. If your application is denied, you will not receive a refund.

Schengen visa categories

Standard (Uniform) Schengen Visa (USV): This allows you to enter the entire Schengen area (to all 26 Schengen member states). A standard Schengen visa can be obtained for the following number of entries:

– Single entry (valid for only one entry into the Schengen area).
– Double entry (valid for two entries into the Schengen area).
– Multiple entries (valid for an unlimited number of entries into the Schengen area).
– Limited Territorial Validity Visa (LTV): Allows entry to one or more selected Schengen countries but not all of them.

Schengen visa types

Short-stay visa (Category C): valid for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Airport Transit Visa – Airport Transit (Category A): valid only for transit through airports in the Schengen area, and does not allow access to any area outside the airport.

National visa (Type D) which is a long-stay visa, not a Schengen visa. It allows you to enter a specific country rather than the entire Schengen area and can be valid for longer than 90 days.

Schengen visa purposes

When you apply for a Schengen visa, you must explain the reason for your travel to the Schengen area, and you can choose from the following ten purposes:

Schengen visa validity

Schengen visas are valid for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. This is also known as the 180/90 rule, this means that you can stay in the Schengen area for 90 days with a Schengen visa.

The validity of the visa differs from the staying duration. In general, Schengen visas are valid for a period longer than the duration of stay (i,e: 90 days which is the number of days you are legally allowed to stay in the Schengen area).

The following steps are general guidelines for Schengen visa applications for all 26 Schengen countries:

Step 1: Determine the purpose of travel, which in turn will determine the type of visa you should apply for.

Step 2: Decide how many times you need to enter the Schengen area.

Step 3: Complete the required documents.

Step 4: Set an appointment to apply for a Schengen visa (if possible).

– قد يقوم مقدمو الخدمات بفرض رسوم معالجة إضافية، هذه الرسوم الإضافية هي منفصلة عن تكلفة طلب تأشيرة شنغن.

فئات تأشيرات شنغن

تأشيرة شنغن القياسية (الموحّدة) (USV): تتيح لك الدخول إلى منطقة شنغن بأكملها (إلى كافة الدول الـ 26 الأعضاء في منطقة شنغن). يمكن الحصول على تأشيرة شنغن القياسية لعدد مرات الدخول التالية:

– الدخول لمرة واحدة (صالحة للدخول مرة واحدة فقط إلى منطقة شنغن).

– الدخول المزدوج (صالحة للدخول مرتين إلى منطقة شنغن).

– الدخول المتعدد (صالحة لعدد غير محدود من مرات الدخول إلى منطقة شنغن).

– تأشيرة عبور المطار – ترانزيت المطار (الفئة A): تصلح فقط للعبور من خلال المطارات في منطقة شنغن، ولا تسمح بالوصول إلى أية منطقة خارج المطار.

– التأشيرة الوطنية (الفئة D) وهي تأشيرة إقامة طويلة وليست تأشيرة شنغن. وتسمح لك بالدخول إلى دولة معينة بدلاً من منطقة شنغن بأكملها، ويمكن أن تكون صالحة لمدة تزيد عن 90 يوماً.
