Rescued baby dugongs released back to sea

Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) Sunday released back into the sea the baby dugongs rescued earlier at Khor Al Udaid Beach.
The officials at the MoECC had made the necessary preparations in this regard after offering them due care and ensuring that they can survive independently in their natural habitat in the deep sea water, it was explained in a statement.
The MoECC was keen to follow all the necessary procedures for safety and security while moving the baby dugongs into the temporary water basins where they were fostered in preparation for their release.
They were fed specially sourced sea weed during the foster care.
The MoECC expressed its thanks and appreciation for all who participated in the successful mission and urged beach goers and divers to take part in the protection of dugongs.
Last month the MoECC announced the rescue of three stranded baby dugongs from the Khor Al Udaid area, in separate incidents.
Named Ocean, Oscar and Olivia, they were transported to the Fuwairit (Sea Turtle Project) area to be cared for in special tanks.

الدوحة: أفرجت وزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي يوم الأحد عن صغار خرفان البحر التي تم إنقاذها في وقت سابق في شاطئ خور العديد.
وأوضح في بيان أن المسؤولين في الوزارة أجروا الاستعدادات اللازمة في هذا الصدد بعد تقديم الرعاية اللازمة لهم والتأكد من قدرتهم على العيش بشكل مستقل في بيئتهم الطبيعية في مياه البحر العميقة.
وحرصت الوزارة على إتباع كافة الإجراءات اللازمة للسلامة والأمن أثناء نقل أبقار البحر الصغيرة إلى أحواض المياه المؤقتة حيث تم رعايتها استعداداً لإطلاق سراحها.
تم إطعامهم الأعشاب البحرية من مصادر خاصة أثناء الحضانة.
وأعربت الوزارة عن شكرها وتقديرها لكل من شارك في هذه المهمة الناجحة وحثت رواد الشاطئ والغواصين على المشاركة في حماية خرفان البحر.
وأعلنت وزارة الاقتصاد والتعاون الدولي الشهر الماضي عن إنقاذ ثلاثة من خرفان البحر العالقة من منطقة خور العديد في حوادث منفصلة.
وتم تسميتهم أوشن وأوسكار وأوليفيا، وتم نقلهم إلى منطقة فويرط (مشروع السلاحف البحرية) ليتم رعايتهم ضمن أحواض خاصة.
