MoPH: 6 factors determine the traveler’s need for some vaccines

Doha: Dr. Mona Al-Maslamani, Medical Director of Hamad Medical Corporation’s Communicable Disease Center, confirmed that the center provides specialized clinics that provide preventive medical care for travelers, such as vaccinations, preventive treatment for malaria, treatments for altitude sickness, and treatments for the condition known as travelers’ diarrhea.

Dr. Al-Muslimani explained in remarks to Al-Sharq that the process of determining whether the traveler will need certain vaccines before traveling depends on a number of different factors, including:

1- Risk of disease exposure in the countries he will visit.

2- Age, current health status, and previous vaccinations obtained.

3. Special factors increase the risk of patients being prone to diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, pregnancy, or a condition that affects and weakens the immune system such as cancer.

4- Having an allergic reaction to the vaccines obtained before, or if the traveler has a history of allergies or uses allergy medications.

5- The risk of transmitting the infection to other people.

6- Duration of their stay abroad.

She also advised to obtain some of the optional vaccinations, while some other vaccines are necessary and must be obtained if a person wishes to travel to certain countries, recommending all travelers to review the schedule of routine vaccinations for children in different doses before traveling.

الدوحة: أكدت الدكتورة منى المسلماني – المدير الطبي لمركز الأمراض الانتقالية التابع لمؤسسة حمد الطبية أن المركز يوفر عيادات تخصصية تقدم الرعاية الطبية الوقائية للمسافرين، مثل التطعيمات، والعلاج الوقائي للملاريا، وعلاجات داء المرتفعات، وعلاجات الحالة المرضية التي تعرف بإسهال المسافرين.

وأوضحت د. المسلماني في تصريحات لـ الشرق أن عملية تحديد ما إذا كان المسافر سيحتاج إلى بعض اللقاحات قبل السفر تعتمد على عدد من العوامل المختلفة، من بينها:

1- خطر التعرض للأمراض في الدول التي سيزورها.

2- العمر، والحالة الصحية الحالية، واللقاحات التي حصل عليها المسافر من قبل

3- وجود عوامل خاصة تزيد من خطر تعرض المسافر للأمراض، مثل وجود إصابة بأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية، الحمل، أو الإصابة بحالة مرضية تؤثر على الجهاز المناعي وتضعفه مثل مرض السرطان

4- حدوث ردة فعل تحسسية للجسم على اللقاحات التي تم الحصول عليها من قبل، أو في حال كان لدى المسافر تاريخ مرضي مع الإصابة بالحساسية أو استخدام المسافر لأدوية الحساسية

5- وجود خطر لنقل العدوى لأشخاص آخرين

6- مدة السفر خارج البلاد

كما نصحت بأخذ بعض اللقاحات وتعتبر اختيارية بينما تُعد بعض اللقاحات الأخرى ضرورية ويجب أخذها إذا رغب الشخص في السفر لدول معينة، موصية جميع المسافرين بالاطلاع على جدول التطعيمات الروتينية للأطفال بجرعاتها المختلفة قبل السفر.
