Two years in prison for a man who stole “chocolate and pancake” in the Czech Republic

A Czech court has sentenced a man who stole items from a shop during the closure in the fight against  Coronavirus, Czech media reported Friday. The court in The City of Belzin sentenced a 32-year-old man to 26 months in prison without the possibility of parole, Bravo newspaper reported Friday.

The harsh punishment was the result of the country’s state of emergency from March 12 to May 17 to limit the spread of the virus, which automatically saw even more severe judicial penalties for minor crimes.

The man was reportedly caught red-handed while trying to hide pancakechips in his pocket. Three days later, he also reportedly tried to smuggle 15 pieces of chocolate from another store by hiding them under his jacket.

The man pleaded guilty to theft.

“I was starving, homeless, my life was empty,” he told the court.

ذكرت وسائل إعلام في التشيك اليوم الجمعة أن محكمة تشيكية قضت بالسجن لمدة أكثر من عامين بحق رجل سرق بعض الأشياء من متجر خلال الإغلاق المفروض في إطار مكافحة تفشي فيروس كورونا.

وذكرت صحيفة “برافو” اليوم الجمعة أن المحكمة في مدينة بلزين قضت بالسجن 26 شهرا، دون إمكانية إطلاق سرح مشروط، بحق رجل 32 عاما لإدانته بسرقة “بان كيك” من متجر خلال الإغلاق.

وجاءت العقوبة القاسية نتيجة لحالة الطوارئ الوطنية المفروضة في البلاد بداية من 12 مارس وحتى17 مايو الجاري للحد من انتشار فيروس ، والتي شهدت بشكل تلقائي عقوبات قضائية أكثر صرامة حتى في الجرائم البسيطة.

وتردد أنه جرى القبض على الرجل متلبسا بينما كان يحاول إخفاء رقائق البان كيك في جيبه. وبعد ثلاثة أيام، تردد أيضا، أنه حاول تهريب 15 قطعة شوكولاتة من متجر آخر بإخفائها تحت سترته.

وأقر الرجل بجريمة السرقة.

وقال أمام المحكمة، بحسب التقرير: “كانت اتضور جوعا، وبلا مأوى، كانت حياتي فارغة”.
