QM Announces ‘Unprecedented’ Cultural Initiatives for fall 2022

Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) on Wednesday announced a wide-ranging series of cultural initiatives in fall 2022 that confirm the nations position as a preeminent arts and culture destination in the region and internationally.

The program will begin in September, with exhibitions remaining on view into 2023. The announcement follows the recent transformation of Qatar Creates from a limited period of events into a year-round national cultural movement that curates, promotes and celebrates the diversity of cultural activities in Qatar.

Anchoring the cultural program is the opening in October of a completely reimagined and reinstalled Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect I M Pei, a celebrated landmark in the heart of Doha. The MIA will present its collection in completely new thematic interpretations to engage with audiences both local and international. It will also include a new family trail.

Accompanying the reopening of the MIA is a wide-ranging program of exhibitions across eight museums and galleries in Doha.

These include ‘Baghdad: Eyes Delight’ at the Museum of Islamic Art showcasing one of the greatest cities in the Islamic world; contemporary multimedia creations by artists Sophia al-Maria and Taysir Batniji at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art; an exhibition on the rich cultural heritage of nomads in the Central Sahara, Arab Middle East and Central Eurasia/Mongolia at the National Museum of Qatar; a show celebrating the history of football and the sports greatest competitions at the recently opened 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum; Maison Valentino exhibition that pays homage to its founder at M7; exhibitions on the Art Mill Museum of international modern and contemporary art, designed by Alejandro Aravena and ELEMENTAL, and on the Lusail Museum, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, giving visitors their first glimpse of what they can expect from these two new art institutions now being developed by Qatar Museums.

As Qatar prepares for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Qatar Museums is also transforming the nations landscape into a vast outdoor art museum with the installation by fall 2022 of more than 40 new and commissioned public artworks throughout Doha and the nation, in a variety of public spaces, including parks and shopping areas, educational and athletic facilities, Hamad International Airport and Qatar Rail stations, as well as select stadiums that will host World Cup matches.

Qatar is hosting the FIFA World Cup this year the first time the world’s biggest football tournament will be held in the Middle East. The Qatar Olympic and Sports Museums World of Football exhibition celebrates this historic occasion. And like a football match itself, it is displayed over two halves. The first half Football for All, All for Football – examines the universal and global appeal of football; the beautiful game that is played, watched and enjoyed by millions regardless of age, gender, nationality or socioeconomic status. The second half – The Road to Doha – follows the long journey to Qatar 2022, from the first FIFA World Cup matches in Uruguay in 1930, to the final at the Lusail Stadium on December 18. Visitors to the exhibition can relive memories of some of the greatest World Cup moments of the past, get behind the scenes of Qatars successful bid to welcome the world, and see the countrys plans.

The final FIFA Making Memories section will grow during the exhibition, as objects and artefacts are added to celebrate and record historic milestones as teams make new World Cup history at Qatar 2022. The exhibition is supported by FIFA Museum, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, National Football Museum (UK), Musée National du Sport (France) and Qatar Football Association.

Labor of Love: Embroidering Palestinian History; October 12 January 28, 2023; QM Gallery Katara; Part of Qatar-Menasa 2022 Year of Culture Labor of Love: Embroidering Palestinian History will take visitors on a journey of discovery of ‘tatreez’ embroidery as woven into the social, economic and political fabric of Palestinian society, through different historical periods.

The exhibition elucidates the symbols of traditional embroidered Palestinian dress (thobe), and explores ‘tatreez’ through the lenses of gender, labour, commodification and class. The exhibition thus traces the shift of ‘tatreez’ from a personal practice, made with love, to national symbol, and onto a product circulating in the global marketplace.

The exhibition is curated by Baha Jubeh, Collections manager at the Palestinian Museum, and draws from collections of Qatar Museums and the Palestinian Museum.

Experience Al Jazeera; October 19 March 2023; Fire Station, Doha, Experience Al Jazeera captures how Al Jazeera Media Network, over the past 25 years, has grown from a single pioneering TV channel to a global media phenomenon. The exhibition explores the meteoric trajectory of Al Jazeera, its emphasis on the human story, its founding values, editorial integrity, creative processes and the technologies involved in the creation of award-winning content in multiple formats across a range of platforms.

The Al Jazeera exhibition also includes interactive exhibits, such as a Studio Experience, where visitors can experience the Al Jazeera studio setting first-hand, and an Al Jazeera Immersive section, which explores the use of virtual and augmented reality storytelling techniques in broadcasting. The Experience Al Jazeera exhibit illustrates the Networks commitment to professionalism, independent journalism in the pursuit of the truth to inform and inspire its audiences globally.

Art Mill Museum 2030; Qatar Flour Mill Warehouse and Al Najada Heritage House #15, Doha; October 24 March 30, 2023. The Art Mill Museum 2030 exhibition announces the future museum of international modern and contemporary art developed by Qatar Museums in Doha. It introduces the vision and the definition of the museum, conceived by Catherine Grenier, as well as the architecture by the studio ELEMENTAL, led by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alejandro Aravena. Due to open in 2030, the Museum will transform an industrial flour mill site on the Corniche. It will include a Creative Village and a Garden by VOGT Landscape Architects, led by Günther Vogt. The Art Mill Museum will house an exceptional and completely international collection constituted over the last 40 years with multidisciplinary works of great diversity, dating from 1830 to the present.

The exhibition will present the vision of the museum, the architectural project, and the signature garden.

To reflect the transformation of the site and to demonstrate how the Art Mill Museum will be a place for contemporary creativity, artists have been commissioned to create films and photographs establishing parallels between the former flour mill and the future museum. The exhibition will take place in two locations in Doha: the site of the flour mill plant that will later welcome the new construction and the recently restored Al Najada Heritage House #15.

The exhibition is curated by Aurelien Lemonier, Art Mill Museum curator of Architecture, Design and Gardens, and Maryam Al-Thani, curator, Exhibitions Department, Qatar Museums.

الدوحة: أعلنت متاحف قطر اليوم عن إطلاقها سلسلة من المبادرات الثقافية في خريف 2022 ، وذلك في إطار تأكيد مكانة دولة قطر كوجهة فنية وثقافية بارزة على الصعيدين الإقليمي والدولي.

ويأتي هذا الإعلان بعد التحول الأخير الذي شهدته مبادرة /قطر تبدع/، من فعاليات تمتد لفترة محدودة، إلى مبادرة ثقافية وطنية تستمر على مدار العام، وتحتضن تنوع الأنشطة الثقافية في الدولة .

وذكرت متاحف قطر في بيان لها أن المبادرات الثقافية التي تستمر حتى ابريل عام 2023 ، ستبدأ مع إعادة افتتاح متحف الفن الإسلامي في أكتوبر المقبل، الذي أعيد تصوره وتركيبه بشكل شامل للتفاعل مع جمهوره على الصعيدين المحلي والدولي، ويرافق إعادة افتتاح هذا المتحف ، برنامج واسع من المعارض عبر ثمانية متاحف، وقاعات عرض في الدوحة.

وتدخل العديد من معارض متاحف قطر لخريف 2022 في إطار برنامج العام الثقافي قطر – الشرق الأوسط – شمال إفريقيا – جنوب آسيا 2022، في العام الذي سيشهد استضافة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 ، وتسعى دولة قطر بشكل كبير إلى نشر هذه المبادرة السنوية للتبادل الثنائي، للاحتفال بثقافات أكثر من 20 دولة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط، وشمال إفريقيا، وجنوب آسيا ، ومن أهم هذه المعارض معرض /بغداد – قرة العين/ في متحف الفن الإسلامي، والذي يقام في الفترة من 25 أكتوبر2022 – وحتى 26 فبراير 2023 ـ ليسلط الضوء على تراث مدينة بغداد العريق كعاصمة للخلافة العباسية العظيمة (750 – 1258 م)، وكذلك في القرن العشرين، ويضم قطعا معارة من 22 جهة، بما في ذلك متاحف اللوفر، ومتروبوليتان للفنون، وبيناكي، والفاتيكان، ومؤسسة بارجيل.

ومعرض /إبداعات معاصرة عبر وسائط متعددة/، للفنانين: صوفيا الماريا، وتيسير بطنيجي، في المتحف العربي للفن الحديث / متحف /، ويقام في الفترة من 16 سبتمبر 2022 – 21 يناير 2023، ومعرض /مجاز الفن المعاصر في قطر /والذي يقام في الفترة من 16 سبتمبر 2022، إلى 25 فبراير 2023 ، في / متحف/ احتفالا بمناسبة مرور خمس سنوات من برنامج الإقامة الفنية، وتعبيرا عن ازدهار المشهد الفني في دولة قطر، ويشارك فيه 25 خريجا من برنامج الإقامة الفنية، حيث سيعرضون أعمالا في مجالات متنوعة، تضم الرسم، والنحت، والوسائط الجديدة.

كما يقام في ذات الاطار معرض / غزل العروق: حياكة تاريخ فلسطين/ في الفترة من 12 أكتوبر2022 وحتى 28 يناير 2023، في صالة عرض متاحف قطر بالمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي/ كتارا/، حيث يستكشف تاريخ التطريز الفلسطيني، متتبعا تحولاته من ممارسة ذاتية مدفوعة بالحب، إلى رمز وطني، ثم لاحقا إلى منتج يتداول في الأسواق العالمية، ويقام بالشراكة بين المتحف الفلسطيني ومتاحف قطر.

وتقيم متاحف قطر معرضا عن التراث الثقافي الغني للبدو الرحل في وسط الصحراء الكبرى، والشرق الأوسط العربي، ووسط أوراسيا/ منغوليا في متحف قطر الوطني، تحت عنوان /حياة الترحال من منظور جديد/ في الفترة من 27 أكتوبر2022 ، وحتى 14 يناير 2023 ، حيث يستعرض حياة الرعاة الرحل وشبه الرحل في ثلاث مناطق هي: الصحراء الوسطى وقطر ومنغوليا ؛ فيستكشف المعرض كيف أنشأت هذه المجموعات حياة اجتماعية غنية وذات مغزى وحافظت عليها وشكلت أنماطا ثقافية عميقة وجميلة في بيئات مليئة بالتحديات.

ويضم المعرض مجموعة غنية من القطع والصور التاريخية ولقطات أرشيفية من مجموعات متحف قطر الوطني ومجموعات متاحف قطر الأخرى، إلى جانب القطع المعارة من المتاحف الدولية بما في ذلك متحف منغوليا الوطني، ومتحف دوكيه برانلي الفرنسي، ومتحف العالم في فيينا وغيرها.

وستحتفي متاحف قطر ضمن فعالياتها في خريف 2022 بتاريخ كرة القدم، في إطار استضافة قطر بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، من خلال افتتاح معرض/عالم كرة القدم/ في متحف قطر الأولمبي والرياضي 3- 2- 1 ، خلال الفترة من 1 أكتوبر 2022 وحتى 1 ابريل 2023، وستتم إقامة المعرض على نصفين على منوال كرة القدم، الأول ؛/ كرة القدم للجميع، والجميع لأجل كرة القدم/ – ويدرس الجاذبية العالمية لكرة القدم، التي يستمتع الملايين بمشاهدتها من كل الأعمار والأجناس والجنسيات، والطبقات، أما النصف الثاني فهو / الطريق إلى الدوحة/ ويتتبّع الرحلة الطويلة إلى كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، من المباريات الأولى لكأس العالم FIFA في الأوروغواي عام 1930، إلى المباراة النهائية في استاد لوسيل يوم 18 ديسمبر 2022.

خلال المعرض، سيتوسع جناح الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم FIFA لصنع الذكريات، حيث ستُضاف له القطع الفنية والأثرية لتوثيق الإنجازات التاريخية، والاحتفاء بها، في الوقت الذي تسطّر فيه الفِرَق تاريخًا جديدًا لكأس العالم في قطر . ويحظى المعرض بدعم من كل من متحف FIFA، واللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، والمتحف الوطني لكرة القدم (المملكة المتحدة)، والمتحف الوطني للرياضة (فرنسا)، والاتحاد القطري لكرة القدم.

أما معرض /اكتشف الجزيرة!/ والذي يقام في مطافئ: مقر الفنانين، خلال الفترة من 19 أكتوبر2022 وحتى بداية مارس 2023 ، فسيبرز أهم المحطات في رحلة شبكة الجزيرة الإعلامية خلال ربع قرن، حتى أصبحت اليوم ظاهرة إعلامية عالمية التأثير، ويتضمن أقساما تفاعلية، مثل “تجربة الاستوديو”، التي يمكن للزوار من خلالها معايشة أجواء البث التلفزيوني، وقسم “الجزيرة الافتراضية”، الذي تستخدم فيه تقنيات إنتاج الواقع الافتراضي والمعزز.

ومن أهم المعارض التي تقدمها متاحف قطر خلال خريف 2022، معرض /مطاحن الفن 2030/، حيث يعلن هذا المعرض الذي يقام في الفترة من 24 أكتوبر 2022 وحتى 24 يناير 2023 ، عن المتحف المستقبلي للفن العالمي الحديث والمعاصر الذي تقيمه متاحف قطر في الدوحة، ليجسد المعرض رؤية وتعريف المتحف كما تراه السيدة كاثرين جرينير، والتصميم الهندسي المعماري لاستوديو ELEMENTAL، بقيادة المهندس المعماري الحائز على جائزة /بريتزكر /أليخاندرو أرافينا.

وسيقوم هذا المتحف، المزمع افتتاحه عام 2030، في موقع مطحنة الدقيق الواقعة على شارع الكورنيش، وسيشمل حيا إبداعيا، وحديقة من تصميم فوغت لاندسكيب الهندسية، بقيادة غنثر فوغت، ستضم مطاحن الفن مجموعة استثنائية وعالمية بالكامل، تم تشكيلها على مدار الأربعين عاما الماضية، وتضم أعمالا متعددة التخصصات، تتسم بتنوع كبير، ويمتد تاريخها من عام 1830 حتى وقتنا الحاضر.

وسيقدم المعرض رؤية المتحف ومشروعه المعماري وحديقته المميزة، وسيقام في موقعين في الدوحة، الأول هو موقع مطحنة الدقيق الذي سيحتضن لاحقا البناء الجديد، وبيت النجادة التراثي رقم 15 الذي تم ترميمه مؤخرا.

وتحتضن متاحف قطر معرضا خاصا يقام في جاليري الرواق تحت عنوان /متحف لوسيل: حكايات عالم يجمعنا/ ، ليكشف عن متحف جديد في مرحلة التطوير حاليا في مدينة لوسيل موطن الشيخ جاسم بن محمد بن ثاني مؤسس دولة قطر، وهو من تصميم هيرتسوغ ودي مورون، حيث سيستعين المتحف الجديد بمجموعته ذات الطراز العالمي من الفن الاستشراقي، والقطع الأثرية، والوسائط المستخدمة من عصور ما قبل التاريخ إلى القرن الحادي والعشرين؛ وذلك لخلق طريقة جديدة، ومستنيرة، وبناءة في النظر إلى العالم، لفهم من نحن، ومن أين أتينا، وإلى أين نذهب؟ وبمناسبة /قطر تبدع/ لعام 2022، ستكرم دار فالنتينو مؤسسها من خلال معرض “فالنتينو إلى الأبد” الذي يقام في مركز الابتكار وريادة الأعمال في مجال الأزياء والتصميم والتكنولوجيا M7 في مشيرب قلب الدوحة ليكون أكبر معرض للدار حتى الآن، وأول عرض له في منطقة الشرق الأوسط.

وفي سياق متصل أعلنت متاحف قطر أنها في اطار الاستعداد لاستضافة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، ستعمل على تحويل مناظر البلاد إلى متحف فني كبير في الهواء الطلق، مع تركيب أكثر من 40 عملا فنيا عاما جديدا تحت التكليف، بحلول خريف 2022، في جميع أنحاء الدوحة والدولة، في فضاءات عامة متنوعة، تضم الحدائق، وأماكن التسوق، والمرافق التعليمية والرياضية، ومطار حمد الدولي، ومحطات المترو، وكذلك الملاعب المختارة لاستضافة بطولة كأس العالم.
