Muslims witness the holy month of Ramadan all over the world, usually once a year, but astrological calculations indicate the possibility of repeating the month of Ramadan twice in one Gregorian year.

When will Ramadan come twice in one year?
According to the Gregorian calendar, and astronomical calculations, the year 2030 will witness an event that doesn’t happen very often, which is witnessing the month of Ramadan twice, as it will come at the beginning of 2030, specifically on January 5, corresponding to the Hijri year 1451, then once again in the same solar year 2030, on December 26, corresponding to the Hijri year 1452.

Thus, the fasting days in 2030 will exceed 30 days, as Muslims will fast 36 days in one year.

The difference between the lunar year (Hijri) and the Gregorian year:
A lunar year is a year based on the phases of the moon, with 12 months totaling approximately 354 days. This means that the lunar year is 11 days shorter than the total of 365 days in the solar year, therefore, the Islamic lunar calendar moves back approximately 11 days each year compared to the regular Gregorian calendar.

Because of the difference between the total days of the lunar year and the solar year, the first day of Ramadan, which is the ninth month in the lunar year (Hijri calendar), moves backward by about 11 days every year, and this explains why we fast in different seasons, we may fast in the winter in one year, and in the summer of another. The Ramadan cycle is renewed every 33 years.

السنة القمرية هي السنة التي تعتمد على مراحل القمر، ويبلغ مجموع أيامها المكونة من 12 شهرًا ما يصل إلى 354 يومًا تقريبًا، هذا يعني أن مجموع أيام السنة القمرية أقل بـ 11 يوم من مجموع أيام السنة الميلادية في التقويم الغريغوري المتبع في العالم والتي تبلغ 365 يومًا، لذلك، يتحرك التقويم القمري الإسلامي إلى الوراء ما يقرب من 11 يومًا كل عام مقارنة بالتقويم الغريغوري العادي.
