Panda enclosure project to open in Al-Khor Park this year

Doha: A source revealed that 70% of the Panda Park project in Al-Khor Park has been completed, pointing to the acceleration of work on the project, which will be opened to park-goers during the second half of this year.

The source pointed out that the panda park is a unique project in the region, and the Public Works Authority “Ashghal” has launched a bid for the construction of a shelter for the pandas that includes a number of conditions to provide the appropriate climate for them in accordance with the standards and specifications set by the People’s Republic of China.

Al-Khor Park is one of the oldest and largest parks and gardens in the State of Qatar. It was opened in 1983 and has an area of ​​about 240,000 square meters. It is an outlet for all residents of the country and is characterized by its vast bright green areas and large trees such as acacia and Sidr trees.

The entertainment service part includes a fully covered gaming area (4,000 flat meters), rubber floors and games to suit different age, an industrial lake of about 2,500 metres, a 1,500-metre family restaurant with an air-conditioned covered area and outdoor patios overlooking a lake, where the restaurant is about 2 metres above the level of the surrounding green flats.

The park witnessed the release of 20 pairs of squirrels to coexist with the visitors of the park who provide food to them naturally, as squirrels are considered pets and feed on fruits, sunflower seeds and hazelnuts and do not harm humans, The squirrels released in the park were chosen as the “Syrian squirrel”, because it is distinguished by its ability to easily coexist with the Qatari environment.

الدوحة: كشفَ مصدرٌ عن إنجاز 70% من مشروع حديقة الباندا بمنتزه الخور، مُشيرًا إلى تسارع وتيرة العمل في المشروع الذي سيتم افتتاحُه أمام الجمهور من روَّاد المُنتزه خلال النصف الثاني من العام الجاري.

وأشارَ المصدر إلى أن حديقة الباندا تعدُّ مشروعًا فريدًا من نوعه بالمنطقة، وقامت هيئة الأشغال العامة «أشغال» بطرح مناقصة لإنشاء بيت لإيواء الباندا يتضمن عددًا من الشروط لتوفير المناخ المناسب لها وفقًا للمعايير والمواصفات التي حددتها جمهورية الصين الشعبية.

ويعتبر منتزه الخور من أقدم وأكبر الحدائق والمنتزهات في دولة قطر، حيث تمَّ افتتاحُه عام 1983 وتبلغ مساحته حوالي 240 ألف متر مربع، وهو متنفس لجميع سكان الدولة، ويتميز بمسطحاته الخضراء الزاهية الشاسعة وأشجاره الكبيرة مثل أشجار القرط والسدر.

أما الجزء الخدمي الترفيهي فيضم منطقة الألعاب، وهي مغطاة بالكامل وتبلغ مساحتها (4000 متر مسطح)، أرضياتها مطاطية وتتنوع الألعاب لتناسب الأعمار السنية المختلفة، وبُحيرة صناعية تبلغ مساحتها حوالي 2500 متر، ومطعمًا للعائلات تبلغ مساحته 1500 متر، وبه منطقة مغطاة مكيفة وفناءات خارجية تطل على بُحيرة، حيث يرتفع المطعم عن مستوى المسطحات الخضراء المُحيطة به حوالي مترين.

وشهد المنتزه إطلاق 20 زوجًا من السناجب للتعايش مع زوار الحديقة الذين يقدمون الطعام لها بشكل طبيعي، حيث تعتبر السناجب من الحيوانات الأليفة وهي تتغذَّى على الفاكهة وحبوب دوار الشمس والبندق ولا تؤذي البشر، وقد تم اختيار السناجب التي تم إطلاقها بالمنتزه من نوع «السنجاب السوري»، لأنه يتميز بقدرته على التعايش بسهولة مع البيئة القطرية.
