Doha: After the Ministry of Public Health announced a confirmed case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) of a 50-year-old resident who had direct contact with camels.
What is the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome? .. And what is its relationship to the Coronavirus and camels?
According to the Ministry of Public Health, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory disease caused by one of the coronaviruses (a coronary virus that causes respiratory syndrome in the Middle East) and it differs from the (Covid-19), as the two viruses differ in the source of infection, the ways of transmission and the severity of the disease.
WHO explains a number of information on Middle East Respiratory Syndrome
1. Virus
Coronary virus (COV) is the cause of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.
2- Discovery
It was first discovered in Saudi Arabia in September 2012.
3. Common symptoms
Symptoms appears as a severe respiratory disease with fever, cough, and breathing difficulties.
Gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, may occur.
4- Countries where cases have been recorded
In the Eastern Mediterranean Region, a number of countries have reported laboratory-confirmed cases of the syndrome (Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen).
5. Source of infection
The source of human infection is still unknown. However, current scientific evidence indicates that infection with the virus spreads in camels and is transmitted to humans, but the path of transmission of the virus from camels to humans is still unknown, although direct and indirect contact with camels is assumed to be a risk factor for transmission.
6- Spread
MERS does not spread quickly between people.
7- Vaccination
There is still no vaccination to prevent MERS-CoV.
8- Prevention
-Clean your hands carefully with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough, and dispose of the tissue immediately in the trash, then wash your hands well.
-Sanitize the frequently used surfaces such as door handles.
-Avoid touching your face, mouth and nose with unwashed hands.
-Do not share cups, bowls, or other utensils with people who are sick.

الدوحة: بعد إعلان وزارة الصحة العامة عن تسجيل حالة إصابة مؤكدة بمتلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية لمقيم يبلغ من العمر 50 عاماً، ولديه اختلاط مباشر مع الإبل.
ما هي متلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية؟.. وما هي علاقتها بفيروس كورونا والإبل؟
وفق وزارة الصحة العامة، فإن متلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية هي مرض تنفسي فيروسي يتسبب فيه أحد فيروسات كورونا (الفيروس التاجي المسبب لمتلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية) وهو يختلف عن فيروس كورونا 2019 (كوفيد-19)، حيث يختلف الفيروسان في مصدر العدوى وطرق انتقال المرض وشدته.
وتوضح منظمة الصحة العالمية عدداً من المعلومات حول متلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية
1- الفيروس
الفيروس التاجي (فيروس كورونا) هو المسبّب لمتلازمة الشرق الأوسط التنفسية.
2- الاكتشاف
تم اكتشافها لأول مرة في المملكة العربية السعودية في سبتمبر 2012.
3- الأعراض الشائعة
تظهر الأعراض على شكل مرض تنفسي حاد مع حمى وسعال وضيق وصعوبة في التنفس.
وقد تظهر أعراض تصيب الجهاز الهضمي، بما في ذلك الإسهال.
4- الدول التي سجلت فيها حالات
في “إقليم شرق المتوسط”، سجل عدد من البلدان حالات مؤكدة مختبرياً للمتلازمة (مصر، والأردن، والكويت، ولبنان، وعمان، والمملكة العربية السعودية، وتونس، وقطر، والإمارات العربية المتحدة، واليمن).
5- مصدر العدوى
ولايزال مصدر العدوى البشرية مجهولاً. ومع ذلك، تشير الأدلة العلمية الحالية، إلى أن العدوى بالفيروس تنتشر في الإبل وتنتقل منها إلى البشر ولكن طريق انتقال الفيروس من الإبل إلى البشر لا يزال مجهولاً على الرغم من أن الاتصال المباشر وغير المباشر مع الإبل يفترض أن يكون عامل خطر لانتقال العدوى.
6- الانتشار
لا تنتشر متلازمة الشرق الأوسط تنتشر بسرعة بين الأشخاص.
7- التطعيم
لا يوجد حتى الآن تطعيم مضاد لمنع متلازمة فيروس كورونا التنفسية الشرق أوسطية.
8- الوقاية
نظف يديك بعناية بالصابون والماء لمدة 20 ثانية على الأقل.
غط فمك وأنفك بمنديل ورقي عندما تعطس أو تسعل، وتخلص من المناديل الورقية فوراً في القمامة ثم اغسل يديك جيدا.
عقم الأسطح المستخدمة باستمرار مثل مقابض الأبواب.
تجنب ملامسة وجهك، وفمك وأنفك بأيدي غير مغسولة.
لا تتشارك الأكواب أو الأوعية أو الأدوات الأخرى مع أشخاص مرضى.
