Barzan Gas Plant Produces 1.4 Billion Cubic Feet of Methane Gas Per Day

Doha: QatarEnergy stated that the Barzan Gas Plant inaugurated by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at Ras Laffan Industrial City, produces almost 1.4 billion cubic feet of methane gas per day for power generation in the State of Qatar.
The company explained that the project also produces 1,920 tons of ethane per day as a feedstock for the local petrochemical industries, liquid petroleum gas LPG in the form of 864 tons of propane per day, 677 tons of butane per day for international export, 5,600 barrels of factory condensate per day for international export, 24,200 barrels of unprocessed field condensate per day delivered to Laffan Refinery and 3,565 tons of liquid sulfur per day.
In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said that the project is one of the most important energy projects in Qatar, as it adds a high quality value in meeting the local needs of natural gas, and in supporting the comprehensive development and economic development of the country.
His Excellency added that with the Barzan Gas Plant’s various products, one of the continuous objectives of the optimal exploitation of the resources from the North Field, the provision of the energy needed for electricity production and water desalination would be achieved, in addition to the large development projects in the country, including the facilities for hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and other strategic projects.
Qatargas operates the Barzan Gas Plant on behalf of its shareholders: QatarEnergy (93 percent) and ExxonMobil (7 percent), with the North Field feeding the new project with natural gas.
During the construction phase, the project workforce peaked at 30,000 workers on site and achieved an outstanding safety performance, including over 130 million manhours without a Lost Time Incident.
The plant is named after the famed historic Barzan Towers, also known as the Umm Salal Mohammed Fort Towers, which were originally built in the late 19th century.

الدوحة: قالت شركة /قطر للطاقة/ إن مشروع غاز برزان الذي تفضل بافتتاحه حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، في مدينة راس لفان الصناعية ينتج ما يقرب من مليار و400 مليون قدم مكعبة من غاز الميثان يوميا لتوليد الكهرباء في دولة قطر.
وأوضحت الشركة أن المشروع ينتج كذلك 1920 طنا من الإيثان يوميا كمادة أولية للصناعات البتروكيماوية المحلية وغاز البترول المسال على شكل 864 طنا من البروبان يوميا و677 طنا من البوتان يوميا للتصدير الدولي، و5600 برميل من مكثفات المصانع يوميا للتصدير الدولي، و 24 ألفا و200 برميل من مكثفات الحقول غير المعالجة يوميا تسلم إلى مصفاة لفان، و 3 آلاف و565 طنا من الكبريت السائل يوميا.
ومن جهته، قال سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريدة الكعبي وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للطاقة، في كلمة ألقاها في حفل افتتاح المشروع، إن المشروع يعد واحدا من أهم مشاريع الطاقة في دولة قطر، حيث يضيف قيمة نوعية عالية في تلبية احتياجاتنا المحلية من الغاز الطبيعي، وفي دعم التنمية الشاملة والتطور الاقتصادي للدولة”.
وأضاف سعادته: “من خلال المنتجات المتنوعة لمشروع غاز برزان، نكون قد حققنا أحد أهدافنا المستمرة للاستغلال الأمثل لموارد حقل الشمال، ووفرنا الطاقة التي تحتاجها محطات إنتاج الكهرباء وتحلية المياه، والمشاريع التنموية الكبيرة في الدولة، بالإضافة إلى منشآت استضافة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، وغيرها من المشاريع الهامة والاستراتيجية”.
وتقوم شركة قطر غاز بتشغيل مشروع غاز برزان بالنيابة عن مساهميها قطر للطاقة (93 بالمئة) وإكسون موبيل (7 بالمئة)، حيث يغذي حقل الشمال المشروع الجديد بالغاز الطبيعي.
جدير بالذكر أن المشروع قد حقق أداء متميزا على صعيد السلامة أثناء أعمال البناء، إذ وصل عدد العمال إلى ذروته عند 30 ألف عامل في الموقع، وتم إنجاز 130 مليون ساعة عمل دون تسجيل أي حادث مهدر للوقت.
وقد تمت تسمية المشروع على اسم أبراج برزان التاريخية الشهيرة، والمعروفة أيضا باسم أبراج قلعة أم صلال محمد، والتي بنيت في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر.
