VCUarts Qatar’s ‘Tasmeem Doha 2022: Radical Futures’ to Start Next Week

Doha: Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, (VCUarts Qatar) a Qatar Foundation partner university, has announced the next edition of Tasmeem Doha, an art and design conference organized by the University every two years.
The latest conference, titled Tasmeem Doha 2022: Radical Futures, will be held from March 7-10.
Tasmeem Doha 2022: Radical Futures conference addresses the role of design in shaping an inclusive and multi-faceted future. The conference not only speculates on technological advancements but on future threats and changes whether environmental, geographical, cultural, or social.
At the core of the latest conference are the ‘Four Axes’. These four axes are inspired by human-constructed entities such as governments, nations, and ministries. The organizers combined these dogmatic or established labels with playful and unusual concepts to create unexpected combinations, such as ‘The Ministry of Matters’, ‘The State of Change’, ‘The Institute of Speculation’, and ‘The Department of Disinformation’.
Some of this year’s themes include but are not limited to Inclusion, Post colonialism, Indigenous Knowledge, Language, Geology, Energy Systems, Environment, Sustainability, Smart Materials, Circular Economies, Curatorial Activism, Biotechnology, and Augmented Realities.
A line-up of renowned international designers, artists, academics, researchers and industry professionals will deliver masterclasses, lectures, and conduct workshops on both broad and specialized topics.
This year’s list of speakers and workshop leaders includes renowned creatives such as Liam Young, Mohamed ElShahed, Julia Watson, Paolo Cardini, Jalila Essaidi, Pinar Yoldas, and design studios such as Parsons and Charlesworth, Territorial Agency, and Design Earth, to name a few.
The Directors of Tasmeem Doha 2022: Radical Futures are VCUarts Qatar faculty members Basma W Hamdy, Diane C. Derr, PhD, Maysaa Al-Mumin and former member of faculty Denielle Emans, PhD.
Each edition of Tasmeem Doha, which was first held in 2004, highlights a unique and contemporary theme within art and design, exploring novel concepts, methods, and applications, and engaging in critical discussions.

الدوحة: أعلنت جامعة /فرجينيا كومنولث/ كلية فنون التصميم في قطر، الجامعة الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر، عن تنظيم النسخة القادمة من مؤتمر /تصميم دوحة 2022/ الذي تنظمه كل عامين خلال الفترة من 7 إلى 10 مارس الجاري عبر الإنترنت.
وأوضحت الجامعة أن المؤتمر الذي يأتي هذا العام تحت عنوان: /تصميم دوحة 2022: المستقبل الراديكالي/ يتناول بالإضافة إلى التقدم التكنولوجي، التهديدات والتغيرات المستقبلية سواء كانت بيئية أو جغرافية أو ثقافية أو اجتماعية في أربعة محاور، مشيرة إلى أن هذه المحاور مستوحاة من كيانات بناها الإنسان مثل الحكومات والدول والوزارات، إذ قام المنظمون بدمج هذه العلامات الراسخة مع المفاهيم المرحة وغير العادية لإنشاء مجموعات غير متوقعة، مثل /وزارة الأمور/ و/حالة التغيير/ و/معهد التكهنات/ و/إدارة المعلومات المضللة/.
وتتضمن بعض موضوعات هذا العام، على سبيل المثال لا الحصر، الشمول وما بعد الاستعمار ومعرفة السكان الأصليين واللغة والجيولوجيا وأنظمة الطاقة والبيئة والاستدامة والمواد الذكية والاقتصاديات الدورية والنشاط التنظيمي والتكنولوجيا الحيوية والواقع المعزز.
وستقدم مجموعة من المصممين والفنانين العالميين والمشهورين والأكاديميين والباحثين والمتخصصين في الصناعة محاضرات رئيسية وجلسات وورش عمل حول موضوعات واسعة ومتخصصة.
وتتألف قائمة المتحدثين وقادة ورش العمل لهذا العام من مبدعين مشهورين مثل ليام يونغ، ومحمد الشاهد، وجوليا واتسون، وباولو كارديني، وجليلة السعيدي، وبينار يولداس، وعدد من استوديوهات التصميم منها بارسونز وتشارلزورث، والوكالة الإقليمية، وديزاين إيرث، وغيرها.
جدير بالذكر، أن كل إصدار من مؤتمر /تصميم دوحة 2022/، والذي أقيم لأول مرة في عام 2004، يلقي الضوء على موضوع فريد ومعاصر في الفن والتصميم، ويستكشف مفاهيم وأساليب وتطبيقات جديدة، ويخلق جوا من المشاركة في مناقشات نقدية ويسلط الضوء على عدد من القضايا التي تهم الجمهور العالمي أو الإقليمي.
